Just thought about doing a little dog gender poll (hope it will work).

Which do you prefer: a male or a female dog? or gender doesn't matter?

I personally see myself drawn to male pups in general.

I found *most* females *I* came across with were moody. Crystal is one of them too :p

I know that it is an individual thing in some cases, but I don't know, the girls whom I came across with were the moody ones. I found the male pups to be more fun. Or maybe I just click with the boys quicker.

That said, I love them all <3 but my next dog will sure be a boy :D

What about you?

I prefer males, I wanted a female this time around to make it easier for Buster to bond with new puppy and hopefully avoid any aggression issues. Next one will be a boy though, Buster can handle living with a boy but i think having another girl as bitchy as Quinn wouldn't be easy. Her and Mac (mys sisters bitch) is bad enough. They get on but they have spats and they are both so moody, especially when PMSing.
... we must be mad to be planning on adding another girl in a couple of months.

I prefer male dogs, though I always have a bitch or two around. My boys have always been more mellow and trainable, whereas my girls have been more amped up and ready to kick butt - which is AWESOME, but not when lacking trainability lol

It depends. I prefer female labs. They're a little more dimensional imo. lol With papillons I prefer the boys - way, way, way less moody and tend to find trouble less often. With the cockers I could go either way - even though we've always owned girls.

Females, but boys are far easier to integrate into the house with Luce, so I have lots of boys :p

Boys are good too though.

I don't really find a lot of differences between the sexes in shelties, honestly. I think it's more about individual personality. Like a lot of people think females will be bitchy... Pepper is soooo not bitchy.

But if you have to alter males the healing time is shorter. And if you keep them intact there is no heat to mess with. And Auggie doesn't obsessively want to hump other males. Sooooo... boy dogs!

I like the stereotypical male. Happy go lucky, cuddly all the time, goofy to the point where dignity is lost, momma's boy, etc.

But I know plenty of females can be the same way.

Females. We just seem to click better.

Though if i get my flat coat in the future i might get a male, it seems the girls are very serious in that breed and the boys tend to be more goofy.

I do find that there is a similarity in most females genders and male genders. They both have qualities that I like and dislike, so it's difficult to chose one. That's why I have both. :p

Bitches rule lol.

IME boys seem to be happier, more laid back and more likely to go off and visit ring crew, or get distracted. Girls seem to be less social, more focused and well ... bitchier.

These are generalizations, of course there are going to be girls who are social butterflies and boys who are focused and bitchy... but if I was to pick a puppy I like bitches as I have found I will tend to get a more focused, attached, more serious partner.

Ive always perfered female dogs, I just seem to click with them more. Ive bonded way more to my past female dogs, then the males ive had. Not sure what it is, maybe I just find males to be more.. boisterous? just in the ones ive been around anyway. My next dog will probably be a female.

They each have their pros and cons.

Males: easier to come up with a name, awkward when you are scratching their belly and accidentally grab their junk.

Females: I always feel like.... their loyalty has to be earned a little more than males.

If I get a Karelian Bear Dog I think I will go with a boy. I've heard that the males tend to have a smaller radius from the handler when hunting, and females will venture farther.

I like what I hear about males, but have never owned one.

I could do without bitchiness. I'd like my next dog to be male.

I like both for different reasons. I've only had a few males, and all have been a little more pleasing and less independent minded than the girls, which can be nice sometimes. Other times, I find myself telling Ripley to use his own brain instead of blindly going along with whatever somebody else is doing/wants him to do, haha. My boys have also been a lot more tolerant and easy going as far as rude dog behaviour goes, and not as snarky and bitchy as my girls can be. Which again can sometimes be good and sometimes I feel like telling Ripley to tell his sisters not to steal his things and bug him, but he's too nice to ever say anything. Now that I've experienced both, I think a nice dog is a nice dog, and as long as the dog itself is well suited to me, I'm happy.

With that said, I do prefer females aesthetically usually. I just like their smaller size, less coat and femininity.
