We've had one male dog and four female dogs...but I like males better. LOL There's just something about them that appeals to me. That being said, I think I always want a male/female pair, as I don't think I could live without at least one bitchy girl around.

With borzois I like females. They're odd. Capricious, yet they have a strong work ethic. Male are more like giant marshmallow cuddle schmoos which is awesome. But I hate cleaning pee out of their feathers.

BOYEEES! ALL THE WAY!!!! :)

I have always had boy dogs. My sister had one girl dog, who despised me, and I her... haha. We had a love/hate relationship. I swear, that dog used to stare me down and pee all over the llama rug in my room, then prance off laughing! There are a few girl dogs at work who I would steal in a second. I just like the goofy, sweet girls rather than the biatchy ones.

Boys are the bomb though. My boys just worship me and they're always making me LOL. They listen to my every command. I love 'em.

It's funny that males are so much more popular... we have way more female dogs come into the hotel, and the breeders that I know say that female dogs are much more requested than males. Maybe it's because almost all of us are girls? hehe

There seems to be a popular misconception that girl dogs are "easier" by the general public. At least, the general public I know seems to believe that. No idea what the logic is, and they don't seem to know how the girls are easier, just are convinced it is true...

I think there is a misconception that males are more likely to be aggressive (likely derived from the stats that say intact males are more likely to bite people and fight with other dogs).

I know that had something to do with why my aunt wanted a female dog, my uncle has always owned females...I think he assumes they would be more submissive to him, idk.

Back when I first met Auggie's breeder and was putting my deposit down, she told me she had a fairly long waiting list and most of the people were waiting for males... I wouldn't say females are more popular here. Most of the dogs at the doggy daycare are males. I can only think of a small handful of females that come in there. Thinking of all the agility dogs I know, I would say it's maybe 70-30 male to female ratio? Lots of boy dogs around here.
Maybe it's regional, LOL.

In a Rottweiler I prefer a male. They are a lot less temperamental IN MY EXPERIENCE and are also a lot more the cuddle bears. Females are more protective and aloof, also more focused in training, but males make better pets. ALL of this is in my OWN experience though and by no means true to the breed.

I have more females than males, because I need protection dogs considering the area I live in. We have 4 females and 2 males.

It depends on the dog for me. I have both a male and a female. I'm actually finding out just how much I'm drawn to females though. Cricket and I just have this understanding with each other that's hard to explain. I like that she enjoys being near me and is usually in the same room as me, but that she is not SO attached that if I leave the room she will freak out. I don't like dealing with heat cycles though.

That said I'm still planning on my Ibizan Hound more than likely being a female. We may end up with a male though so who knows. To be honest I'm really hoping for a female though.

I do think the trend tends toward the opposite in the performance sport world. Isuspect the reasons are twofold: (1) the perception, as seen in this thread, that boys are in general more biddable and consistent...obviously plusses in the performance ring, and (2) that many people get their performance dogs from reputable breeders, who they assume will keep the "pick" female or two, so going for males gives them, in theory, a higher chance of getting a pup, especially a "pick" pup. Not saying I agree with that mindset as the "pick puppy" means different things to different people, but I do know that reasoning comes into play for some.

Definitely a male. I have owned a female dog and though she was great & i bonded very well with her, I just have a special place in my heart for male doggies.
Now aside from other animals besides dogs, I will NEVER own another female horse. Oh my goodness, that was a nightmare lol. I definitely prefer geldings over mares. Other than dogs and horses (and of course, my cat Peanut, who is a male), I don't know much about sexes in other animals.
But males are the way to go for me. Males tend to bond better with me and I like the overall look of a male dog over a female. I like my dogs to be more...masculine looking (if that makes sense).

I owned both males and females and find that females are generally more obedient, gentler, and less aggressive than males when they're around other dogs.

Don't you know??? Boy dogs mark EVERYTHING in your house and home! It is a simple fact. ;)

That is the biggest reason that I hear. And girls are just sweeter. A lot of them are, but when they're bitchy it can be intimidating!

Now that I think of it, the only dogs who have come after me at work (out of 1000s) are 4 girl dogs. One of them was a Great Dane who I literally went toe-to-toe with... er, knee-to-chest. All bossy bitches. There is only room for one boss bitch!

I reallyyyy want a Collie girl, though. Collie girls are dollfaces! Always!
