I'm being offered this puppy. He sounds amazing, already mostly housebroken, incredibly eager and serious about learning...and it's just not responsible of me to take him. I mentioned to the breeder about my hours and she was like "take him to work with you and leave him in the car? I do that with one of my dogs." So she's no help, lol.

It was a bad idea for me to get Payton.
I did it anyway.

There's no right time, you just make it work. And name the puppy Fluffbutt.

Yep, that. Even when you think it's the right time, and you bring one home, you come across moments like crap, maybe I should have waited 6 months.. but that passes and it's all okay :D.

get it! Get it NOAW!!! Then post lots of pictures.

But seriously, my schedule was pretty set when I got Hudson. A month later they were just like, "Oh, just kidding, let's totally screw up everyone's hours. That'll be fun, right?"

I"m not going to help either. I've taken puppies to work, almost everyone I know that I train with has taken puppies to work and left them in the car. This is the perfect time of year for it. It makes work a lot more fun. I loved taking puppy breaks during the day. Beats the hell out of coworkers

I think if you want it you'll make it work. I wish my office would allow dogs on the parking deck but they made a point to say they don't. I have a long schedule but I'm plannin on coming home and also hiring my sister to come by after school. She is always wanting a 'job' so she can shop.

You have been talking about getting a puppy for a LONG time now... If the hours things is really the only thing holding you back I say do it.

You will figure out a way to make it work. Car, neighborhood kid or professional dog walker, or even pee pee pad training to start. Before you know it, he'll be old enough to have a bladder and be put on the same schedule as your other dogs.

If there are othe reasons, I can't comment. But I wouldn't let the work hours get in the way... They aren't really ever going to go away.

I'm going to echo the others.... get the darn puppy already!

You've been patient a LONG time.

If you wait for the PERFECT time for another dog, you'll never end up getting another dog. Sometimes you have to take that leap of faith and just get the dog, let the pieces fall where they may. And in the end, they almost always fall right, and everything will be fine.

DO ITTTT!

I agree with others - there is no "perfect time". At least, not in my experiences! If there's ever a "perfect time" it does't last long. We got Ned anyways and he's turning out to be a lovely little dog, despite living a bit like a gypsy his first month here.

You guys are killing me over here, LOL. I work around 60 hour a week with really unpredictable "go home" times. Normally I'd just be like "oh, the bf will take him out" but he's not very good at training and this pup has BIIIIIIIIG pawprints to follow. I just can't help but remember how much time I was able to spend with Sawyer when I first got him and how that really helped to shape our relationship. Plus, I think I'd end up single if I brought home another animal right now to our 7th story, 570sq ft apartment.

But puuuuupppy....
