Many people believe that the guy should say it first, because they take longer to "get there" emotionally than women, and should "set the pace" on it. That if a woman says it first, he likely doesn't feel it yet, or isn't sure, and he'll either lie and say it back to placate her, or it'll scare the ever-living s*** out of him, and it'll all fall apart. Or he'll think the girl is a needy crazypants.
Hmmm . . . then what are gay people supposed to do? :p

I think it depends on the individual people involved. :)

LOL, my guy and I didn't meet in the most "PG" manner, either, but we like to joke about it. We both suffer from acute cases of gutterbrain.

I have never said it 1st.

My ex said it to me when he was drunk quite early on in our relationship... he was always more "in love" with me than I was with him to be fair....

I haven't met anyone yet that I have felt I really really was head over heels with enough to come out with it 1st!

Zoom, I hung out with an adorablely funny guy for TWO YEARS before he corrected me that his name was in fact not George. It was Alex.

How that went on for son long I have never figured out.

I think it was Flo that said it first, admittedly it was on a text message.. It all revolves around our first date and some confusion between the nickname for one of those wire brushes that clean chimneys and Hedgehogs.. Long story, anyway, about 4 days after our first date I got a text saying.. "Je t'aime petit hérisson" (I love you little hedgehog) it was sweet but ever so slightly mocking at the same time..

However I do remember the first time he actually said to me.. "I love you" in English, that one is engraved on my memory.. Bless him, he actually made the effort to learn it! LOL!
