None of mine are. Something just gives me the creeps about it. I mean, those people know at all times where your dog is. Basically, they always know where you are. I guess I am just a very paraniod person, LOL. Anyway, do you guys have them?

Actually, microchips don't work that way. All they are is basically a non-removable bar code in your dog. When the microchip reader is passed over the chip, it will read the owner's contact information.

Zeus is microchipped, and I find it nice to have that security.

Yea, I know how they work. We do them at work. I don't know though. I know I am prolly freaking out over absolutely nothing. I am just very paraniod about that kinda thing. I don't think it's bad for people to get them at all. I just always think negatively and think that the government would always know where I am by just looking up my dog's #. I know I know... Ridiculous.

I am thinking about getting Riot microchipped next time he goes to the vets..

i'm still not sure yet though. Technology is advancing soo much lately and some places have different chip readers..

what if I get him chipped and then that technology is old news now..

Hes tattooed already from the breeder, but its already faded quite a bit and hard to read with all his fur.

I dunno.. still a big decision. I have read the "horror" stories of having them chipped as well, the chip slowly moving down their leg etc.

ack.. I dunno lol

First the government would have to steal your dog and scan it for a chip just to find out your info. But if they could find your dog to scan it there is a good chance they could of just found you anyway.

I would def. think about getting them tattooed. What exactly does the tattoo look like? I mean, what if there were another Tervuren with Riot's exact tattoo? How do they distinguish them?

The girls aren't chipped, but I want to have it done. When we leave, I'm wary about keeping their collars on (in case they were to get caught on something - I don't want my dogs to choke to death), so at times I take them off. If they were to get outdoors somehow I'd want them to have SOME kind of identification.

I know... I read too much into things, it's sad. A tattoo is something I would certainly consider though.

At the clinic I work at, a chip is $41.60. To actually register them through HomeAgain, it is a onetime fee of $17.50.

Hmmmm...I doubt the government will resort to looking up your pets' microchip #'s to find you...A bit far fetched, I think...;)

One of mine is microchipped and the other is not. We soon plan on getting him chipped too.

We have had some scary experiences with collars and my dogs are not collared most of the time. A microchip would be their only saving grace should they become lost.

Emma is MC'd.

Jazz will be tatto'd, but I am going to get her MC'd as well because a tat can fade

All my dogs have been microchipped. I microchipped my puppies before they left for new homes too. Big believer in the microchip :) I prefer it to tattoo for several reasons. Easier on the dog. More likely to be found and used to get my dog home again than a tattoo. (almost 100% of animal control departments and veterinarians have scanners)

i haven't microchipped mine yet. I won't bother with Mary for she isn't going anywhere but i hope to have Victor done this spring. My greatest fear with him is being stolen.

Titus is chipped. Java isn't, and I'm not doing her. She's too old for me to bother with, and she's never out of my sight anyway.

Btw, a chip is not a GPS locator for the person that said that someone could tell where your dog is at all times... that's your cell phone. ;)

Ripley is chipped, but Dakota and future dogs are going to be tattooed. My biggest problem with the chip is that if someone finds my dog and doesn't have a reader, they won't have the slightest idea that the dog belongs to somebody. Tattoos can fade, though, so I may wind up chipping Dakota as well just for safe measures.

no, Hannah isn't microchipped...yet. With moving around like we are doing it just doesn't make sense to get it done until we have a permanent address/telephone number. Heck she doesn't even have a nametag with my name and info on it just her vet's rabies tag and the getmehome.com tag. I feel bad but those two tags are better than nothing.

Mine are both chipped. Homeagain costs $45 dollars at my vet, plus you have to pay to register online.

There is a recent law that requires all new microchip readers to be able to read all the different chips. Otherwise, you need the manufacturers reader to be able to read your chip and most places don't bother to get all the readers. Hopefully, the multi-readers will be distributed eventually.

So, even if your dog is microchipped, doesn't guarantee that you'll get it back. I do like the fact that I can prove that it's my dog and it's a permanent identification. (Also, one of my dogs also has a tattoo.)
