Juliefurry, you could always get the chip and have your Vet put as the contact for now, then change it when you get a more permanent address. Fyi fwiw :)

Yea, I know how they work. We do them at work. I don't know though. I know I am prolly freaking out over absolutely nothing. I am just very paraniod about that kinda thing. I don't think it's bad for people to get them at all. I just always think negatively and think that the government would always know where I am by just looking up my dog's #. I know I know... Ridiculous.
If you wrap aluminium foil round your dogs neck they can`t trace you.Just kidding

Zoe isnt microchipped, but I have thought about it, and still might get it done. Although I'm afraid that if anything ever did happen she might not get taken to a place with a scanner.

It just has your contact info. Which anybody, especially the govt can find w/o a chip in your dog.

My dog has an AVID chip. I prefer their service over that of HomeAgain - they sell to people directly and have more reasonable prices.

Dharma is chipped. I have seen too many dogs get out and get lost unexpectedly after a bath or Frontline application or something when they are not wearing a collar.

Guess I figure if the government wants me they know where to find me anyway. :)

All three of mine are micro chipped with Homeagain. I originally did it because we had a gd stolen and never returned. But, now I wonder if a dog is stolen how would a microchip really help? Would a vet ever suspect the dog was stolen if it was brought in for necessary vet services, or would they assume the person was the owner. I have considered getting Brutus a tattoo also. He is my youngest, and people really seem to be impressed by him.

If the government wants me they are going to find me. I have onstar...and planes take pictures of every-ones house's now anyway, the pictures are on the internet...You can run...but, you can't hide lol Sorry, no privacy in the great old U.S. anymore.

None of my dogs are chipped,I've thought about tattos though. Out here they don;t get checked. I don;t expect anyone to.If a dog shows up on a farm it usually stays there. Its down to old fashioned screaming your head off and lots of signs and adds.

Speaking of crazy government stalkers has anyone seen these people finder sites that say for like 19.99 they'll give you a phone number and address and for like 49.99 an satelitte photo:eek: can they really get that on anyone?

I have Bailey Micro Chipped, we live on a Military base that requires it to be done. I would have done it even if we were living out in town though. I like the added security. Plus I read all these lost dog ads in the local news paper & no one has there pets micro chipped & most of them say they didn't have a collar on the dog/cat at the time it got lost/stolen. So I think it is a smart thing to do, more so I think if you live in a city, you never know what could happen.

Yup. The city people who pick up dead animals off the street check for MC's. At least then you can have closure about knowing what happened :(

Yup and yup. And all the cats too. The cats because they like to roam a coupla houses up and down the street, and they don't have collars because of all their tree-climbing antics, too dangerous. Cats that are allowed outdoors should ALWAYS be chipped, IMO.

The dogs are because you never know what might happen. You just don't. Our vet does it for an extra $30 at the time of spay/neuter. Peace of mind! Great idea :)

I mean, what if there were another Tervuren with Riot's exact tattoo? How do they distinguish them?
Tattoos usually only happen for purebred, registered dogs. The tattoo number and ID is individual to the breeder. Its run through the CKC as well. His tattoo is on his pedigree that was sent to me from the CKC

so there is no way that another Terv would have the same tattoo as him.

LOL
Reading everyone's replies made me realize how silly I sounded. You are right, the govt knows and sees all, so what's a little chip going to hurt? :p So, I will probably end up getting it in the future for my babies. It would especially come in handy for Spud, since he sometimes likes to take a walk around the block without us knowing.
