not sure

We're not sure what Wrigley is! We have been told everything from terrier, lhasa, shihtzu, dachsund, schnauzer---we really don't know! What kind of dog is your pup--they look sort of similar--a little bit! We got him from a local no kill shelter and the mother looked just like him only about half a foot taller--so the daddy was probably short! LOL!

hmm, what would Ruckus be doing if i didnt have him the the crate?
he would be in the crate with the door open chewing his bone and sleeping for 5+ hours.
i dont feel guilty for crating him AT ALL.
thats HIS home, not his tiny metal torture cage.

comparing a dog being crated to a child going to daycare is not the same. There are other kids there to play with and they are not in a room just big enough for them.

I went to a daycare because my mom and dad both work. my dad would take me early in the morning and i would go back to sleep. then we would get up and eat breakfast which was eggs, bacon, toast, and milk. we would quietly watch tv until my babysitter's sons woke up to get ready to go to work. then we would play until later in the day until we were tired. we would sleep, get up, eat dinner, and then our parents would pick us up. when i got home i ate another dinner and went out and helped my dad work around the yard or play with our dog or my cat and her kittens.

at least that was my day when i was younger. My sitter never let us have sweets for breakfast or snacks until after lunch.

I don't think crating is wrong in any way. I do think it should be done in a responisble manner though. When we are out, we crate our girls. They're in an XL dog crate (made for a great dane to be able to sleep in) [Note: My dogs are 4 and 5lbs] with a big comfy bed, a puppy pad, and a water bottle hanging from the side (if I use a bowl, they spill it). When we 1st started crating them (after they started ripping up our carpet when we were gone) they'd cry, but they don't even make a peep now. We were gone yesterday from 5:00pm to 8:00pm (shopping) and my mom came home at 7:30pm from work, and she didn't even realise they were in there, they were so quiet. When we got home, I went and let them out, and they were just fine. :)

This is precisely why I left this board. If you are not in the clique and if you opinion (GASP) differs one bit from the cliques you get blasted. Crating for extended periods of time is bloody cruel.

You are all a bunch of holier than thou, sanctimonious arsekissing idiots.

I take my leave, delete my accout.

Calling someone cruel who obviously love and care for their dogs and disagreeing with them are two separate issues, IMHO. You can disagree with someone without name-calling.

What "cliques"? I don't think it was fair of you to name call. You're calling EVERYONE on this board a name, and that's not at all fair. You're even insulting the Mods.

I haven't seen any harsh disagreements with your beliefs. People have their opinions, and they will be expressed. But name calling is innappropriate, and hurtful.

I just wonder what you think people do and manage in places (such as australia and europe etc) where crating is mostly frowned upon?

We manage, and we don't do this?

There are always other means to get round a problem. I just wonder why noone who crates wants to consider this?
They probably just throw them outside, and leave them there. Then that leads to other behavioral problems, and it's just a chain reaction.

Or they leave them in the house, and they destory everything, and then are punished or given away because they don't want to deal with the issues, and aren't willing to crate?? Just my thought...

While Ashlea's post was, well.. inappropriate (name calling, etc) she does have a point... if someone does not agree with the majority (or egocentric "I am always right" type people)-they get blasted. But it's a part of being all grown up and learning how to deal with people like that because they don't ever go away. *shrugs*

On another note... Babyblue said it well...

Calling someone cruel who obviously love and care for their dogs and disagreeing with them are two separate issues...

Many people got upset in this thread because we crate our dogs and then all of a sudden we were cruel, unresponsible, non-deserving dogs owners. That's enough to ruffle anyone's feathers who has been blessed enough to be owned by a dog or two and needs to crate their dogs for their safety.

While we may never agree on certain topics, there is absolutely no room nor any need for name calling. This isn't second grade...

I agree very much with Nicole. People aren't getting upset because someone is disagreeing with them. People are getting uspet because they are thought of as cruel because they do things differently than them. I'm not even going to enter my opinion.
It's resorting to name calling and huge assumptions based on a difference in belief.

It sounds like many of you on this forum are very responsable, and you know what you're doing, and you know the needs of your dogs, and you take care of them. High five to you!!!
But, there are some who are so incredibly irresponsable and should never own dogs. In some situations, I feel that it IS cruel to leave a dog alone for many hours at a time.

However, if you already had a dog, and your work situation changed, then that's a different story.

But, if you work 10 hour days, and you get a dog/puppy, that's not right because you already know you won't have a lot of time for the dog.
I normally dont get involved but this set me off. I had my job and the same hours before I got my dog so I'm irrisponsible and its not right because my dog stays home 10 hours a day when I'm at work? So your saying I shouldnt own my dog?

Yikes!!! Anyway...

I guess I don't see the cliques.....

I do notice that some people will go to great lengths to get their point across ....its just a dog forum... where here to have fun :p not beat each other over the head when we disagree.
