No advice that hasn't been said, but I wanted to say that I'm thinking about you and Mia and sending all of the vibes. I definitely think calling OSU is a great idea.

Well last night was a first. She kept waking up for a while honking and having issues. :/
I'm really sorry to hear this. I hope that with a new vet consult, you can find that something different and fixable is causing this- it seems to be happening so fast.

Do you think her diet/texture of food could be causing increased agitation? I'm just throwing ideas out, here... Anything weird she had before bed maybe that caused some trouble?

Or similarly, any kind of allergen that could be aggravating the issue?

Lots of hugs. (((Hug)))

Yeah allergen has been something I've wondered about. Both Summer and Mia are sneezing like crazy this last week especially. Who knows what the pollen levels and everything are outside right now.

Mia is going to OSU on June 5th. So a bit of a wait but hopefully we will figure out something.

Do I keep my appointment with my vet or cancel?

Unless your vet may have some ideas to keep her stable in the meantime, I don't know if it would be beneficial to keep your appointment with your vet, especially if he isn't familiar with the condition. But, maybe he could help if a potential allergen is aggravating things?

Can you try giving her Benedryl or something like that? Georgie gets allergies when the pollen is high but it just makes her eyes start to get runny and goopy. Maybe that will help. Bonus is that it might also have a sedative effect and help her chill out some (Payton is the opposite, Benedryl makes him run up and down the hallway really fast.er.)

I only just found out now what's going on with Mia by digging through old threads. I am so sorry you two are dealing with this. Unfortunately I don't have any advice as I have no experience with this specific issue. I myself am an extremely active person, but I have asthma which limits how much I can run and exercise, especially in the heat, so I can relate to atleast Mia in that respect.

Anyway, I know that's not a productive suggestion or answer on what to do to keep the poor girl calm and sane, but just felt I would let you know I feel for you and I'm sending positive vibes your way.

I have some of Summer's allergy meds and I've tried those with Mia and THOUGHT it may have helped but it's hard to tell. There are days she's just better than others so it could be that too.

5th seems like an eternity away. I think she'll be ok till then but if not we can always bring her in as an emergency.

I really really really do appreciate all the good vibes and well wishes. I know you all understand when I say that Mia is my heart dog and just one of the best things in my life. It's been really hard on me the last few months dealing with how fast she's gone downhill.

I though tethering her was going to drive her nuts. Instead, she actually relaxes more, and it also seems to have increased her self-control a great deal. Might be something worth trying?
It is really apparent that she's gotten more self control lately!

So, I agree with trying to tether to help her relax.

Poor thing. We played ball like 5 minutes and now she's wiped out. :( She doesn't want to stop so I'm having to limit her so much.

Do you have any kind of specialty place that isn't the University? I keep hoping that other University teaching hospitals are better than ours but I keep hearing not-great things about others as well (not saying I've heard anything about Oklahoma--just that I know MN and OH are not great). I know I'm being biased because I've had bad experiences there, but I just can't shake it.

Up here, a lot of people really like/have good experiences at Blue Pearl. I don't know if there are any locations near you or not.

No locations near me.

I've never been to OSU. I have taken Summer to A&M and to be honest wasn't too thrilled there. Well really the whole eye debacle was the first vet's fault but at the university is where Summer had her bad reaction to anesthesia.

I don't know of any other specialty places but my trainer had recommended OSU. I have a couple other GP vets on the list but no specialists. I know an orthopedic surgeon specialist but no respiratory people.

Poor thing. :(

Trying to gather up video of her in various situations. She sounds awful here.

Still haven't decided if we go back to my vet this upcoming week or just wait till the 5th to go to OSU.

I have nothing really constructive to add. Just wanted to pop in and say:
:( I'm so sorry you two are going through this. My fingers are crossed for you.

Here's a quick update for those interested:

- Well I took her on Sunday to our agility ring rental and she did good indoors but terrible outside in the humidity. I ended up running her in short 4-6 obstacle sequences because she wanted to sooo bad. It was amazing. I miss getting to play with her like that. She did okay breathing wise but I kept it slow paced and also short. She was thrilled to get to do something.

Today is a very good day for her. Monday was very bad and Sunday was so-so (very bad outside). Today she even went for a walk around the block! That doesn't sound like much but it was a BIG DEAL. She wasn't 100% but wasn't fatigued and just had a few instances of noisy breathing. It was 70 outside but 84% humidity and that humidity has been a killer for her lately more than the heat. I've walked her before in similar instances recently and she could not make it down my part of the street without being fatigued.

I did a few things differently last night and today. I gave her one of Summer's allergy pills every 12 hours. Probably shouldn't have but I was curious to see what that did. I also cleaned carpets this weekend as well as took out my febreeze filter and put in a normal filter in my AC. I also took out my fish tank completely. Not sure if any of that had to do with how well she's doing today or not. Like I said, still noisy breathing but about HALF what she has been having and she's had energy, which hasn't happened at all recently.

I have some hope now that maybe she's allergic to something on top of the trachea issue. Maybe we can get some meds to manage it. Or maybe today was a fluke. I dunno yet, it's too early to say.

Still looking forward to June 5th.
