I wonder if there is some sort of "doggy gym" available somewhere. Basically like a dog park but inside and air conditioned. If not someone on Chaz needs to start one and get rich. I'm sure there are tons of dogs (and owners) that struggle with the heat during the summer months and need a large area to run around in.
I know, right? This would be AWESOME.

We have an indoor swimming facility near us called the Canine Fitness Center but it'd be awesome if there was a place that just had everything. Literally a gym but for canines.

Let's do it! lol

And flyball equipment.
And agility equipment.
A full set of rally signs.

I have the business plan for it started. =P

It's just making me so sad. I'm trying not to be so sad around her but I just can't help it. :(

Even just going to fetch the mail she sounds completely awful.

I'm so so so sorry. I can't believe how fast she seems to be getting worse.

What exactly is happening... is she just not breathing as well, or is she coughing a lot?

Have you tried any meds yet?

She's not coughing, just very rough/loud breathing. A lot of yawning and also some fatigue in heat. In cool weather she sounds ok. We have a vet appointment coming up next week. I am HOPING beyond hope they have some ideas. I hate this so much.

Is a surgical fix an option? What quality of life do they have if it's successful?

It sounds like even doing tracking in the backyard won't work... is it just out in the heat or if she gets really worked up in the house, does she have trouble then too?

Yep, she's having trouble worked up in the house too. Like me grabbing a cookie for her gets her all excite. Or playing ball. It's just ugh.....

Surgical fix is an option. We have barely discussed it but it's very difficult with a lot of complications. From what I read median survival after surgery is around 25 months. Most stents break or have issues after that. There's also a high mortality rate.... Surgery does not normalize dogs either. They will still be restricted.

Those are such weird symptoms for tracheal collapse. All the ones I've seen have a goose-honk cough instead of noisy breathing. Not saying that's not what it is, just doubly heartbreaking that it's so debilitating for her when a lot of dogs can get by ok without such severe exercise intolerance. :(

Hers is collapsed in her chest vs her neck? I am not sure if that makes any difference at all?

She does not sound like any video I've ever heard of a collapsed trachea. It is getting so much worse so fast. Very confusing and disconcerting.

He did say her soft palate was a little bit long. But if it were something like brachycephalism syndrome (or whatever it's called) wouldn't that have shown up earlier?

It sounds more like that to me than CT. But the x rays definitely showed a collapse.

This is purely long-distance, internet speculation but your description almost sounds like laryngeal paralysis. I don't know if I've ever seen it in a toy breed, though.

I had looked into that too and thought that might be it but it seemed mostly a big dog/lab thing. Vet didn't mention it when we did the work on her.

I also noticed a white spot on the very back of the roof of her mouth. Just noticed that a couple days ago when she yawned in my face.

It couldn't be some form of cancer could it? The spot looks like an ulcer to me or very similar to one. It's hard to see since it's so far back in her mouth.

Let me get a video of her uploaded. I've been trying to take some for the vet.

Again, this is internet speculation, but it just seems like there has to be something going on in her throat. I wonder if the collapsing trachea is a bit of a red herring? I'm just brainstorming out loud, it just makes me sad to see you sad over this.

Oh yeah I know it's just internet speculation but anything I can bring up to ask the vet about would be useful...

What do you mean red herring? Like the collapsed trachea is being worsened by something else going on?
