I was driving today and heard that about 70% of people who get married are set up by a family member or a friend. I'm just curious if this is true. If you don't mind sharing how did you meet your significant others? I met mine working at the video store that I used to work at. He came in looking for a movie, I was ignorant to him because I was SUPER busy, and then when I went to ring him up we started joking with each other and that was it we were together EVERY DAY from that day until now.

When we were teenagers everyone used to cruise Ashley street (I know it sounds like something out of the 50's  ) But I was with a friend who knew his friend that he was with. I saw his booty first :D Then he turned round and I thought his face was very handsome too. So told my friend to find out who he was!

I'm sure I probably would have treated my hubbie a lot different if I had seen him from behind first, too.

I probably would have tried harder to make a better impression instead of being rude to him. I guess he liked my rudeness though, it attracted him to me for some reason.

James actually thought I had a boyfriend and the first thing he said to me, besides Hey (a different time) was "So where's your boyfriend?" I had gone out with this guy named Johnboy,( ) one time b/c I didn't think James liked me and then i couldn't get rid of him once I found out that James was interested. The poor guy cried when i told him I wanted to see other people. Even though he called me by the wrong name when we went out, I am Cindy, his ex was Wendy (what he called me) I think he just wanted to get attached to someone fast. When I "broke up" with him (after ONE date he asked me "It's that James guy, isn't it?" I didn't have the heart to tell him yeah, so I lied and said no. We still see him once in awhile now that me and James have been married for 8 years! James still picks on me bout him b/c he only had one eyebrow, Uni brow!!

My sister was married to my husband's brother! How funny is that?!!!! I went to her in-laws with her....saw my Dave...fell head over heels. I figured it was all tooooo strange, tho........until he asked me out. Sis divorced...guess I got the good one..LOL It was rather creepy to be married to brothers for 4 yrs. (until they divorced)....then creepier that I still had the same in-laws after all the trauma of the divorce. BUT, we all managed to stay close..THANK GOODNESS!!!!

I met Tim while I was still a teenager in highschool and he was a "mature college man" we were both in the same EMT (emergency medical tech.) class at the local fire station. I joined with 2 of my best friends at the time who both ditched me when we partnered up, leaving me with Tim. I already had a boyfriend at the time so he pretended he wasn't interested all the while biding his time until the inevidable happened, stupidass highschool boyfriend broke my heart. Tim was there to pick up the pieces. It was really cool because we finished the EMT class as partners (you need a partner in class to practice skills with) and best friends and dating, and really encouraged each other to excel. We dated the rest of the way through my senior year (much to my moms chargin...his too but more because I wasn't mennonite at the time, not because I wasn't "good enough" ) That Summer he proposed. I almost fainted, but said yes. We were engaged six months when we decided that two years was too long to wait to marry so we got married June 17 2001, only a year out of h.s. for me :) I was 19 and allll kinds of starry eyed. Momma was NOT happy with me but I was deleriously overjoyed as was my husband. We've been married almost 4 years. We're still really pathetic newlyweds :D Can you tell I like sharing our story that young love CAN work out. I mean, look at what we do now and are lasting through!

My husband lived behind my best friend in college in their apartment building. She used to always come to my apt. because I lived on the main going out street in Knoxville and she lived there for months before I met him. She ended up having a party one night, and I almost didn't go, but I did, and I met him there. I can even remember he had on a yellow shirt and jeans and he was really tan b/c everyone had just gotten back from spring break. Except me, I had tonsilitis that year so I didn't go anywhere for spring break except home to my parents house.

I met Tony in Sr. HS springtime yr. of 1986 :) My best friend at the time actually had a huge crush on him. And he ended up asking her about me. LOL We both had separate dates for the Sr. Prom but they ended up realizing we were dating and were not to dissappointed to give us up to be able to go the the Prom together. Funny thing is that sooo many girls adored Tony and he was sooo picky, he actually hunted me down. All the girls would be pointing at me in the halls and saying "that's her, that's her" lol very comical. We'd be walking in the local mall and all these girls would walk by and say "hi Tony" He'd eat it up and I'd laugh lol. Now 17 yrs later ... actually 19 (2 yrs. dating) he's like an old shoe LMAO.

While divorce process was almost done, started going to singles dances with some women I met at a support group. When they couldn't go, I started going by myself; this was big for shy me. I almost didn't go into one place, sat in the car for 45 minutes deciding, and then went in. Well guess who came up to me and asked me to dance, Carl. I was taken back at first by his looks, tall, big, muscular, looked hard core. He was not the type of person I was used to ("x" was businessman) but decided to give the new me a chance at discovering different types of people. He turned out to be a sweetheart inside, different from the rough exterior. We dated from that night on and finally moved in together. We've been together for almost 3 years now. As they say, you can't judge a book by it's cover and the same goes for people. Funny thing is, I love to dance but Carl doesn't dance much; he was only there to check out the women.

Jim is gone now, but he was my SO for 12 years. I had been divorced for 2 years, fairly young..handling two children and two jobs. I had it with all work and no play..didn't know anybody really so i took my pool cue out and drove somewhere to play..by myself. I thought it was a bit dangerous but i always parked right out front, don't drink and played a few games then went home. Until the night i met Jim. this was a couple months of going out by myself. He was a big big man with long blond hair pulled into a ponytail and had big bushy blonde mustache. He asked if i wanted to play tho he was with someone else, Bob..(Bob never did like me..i took up to much of Jim's time) playing at the next table. YOu could tell he had a few, but wasn't overly so i said sure. We played a few games and i don't know where Bob went but Jim and i then drove to the river (he had a broken toe so i figured if he ended up a baddie I could out run him) and talked until dawn. We spent every friday and Sat together for a few years and then the whole weekends..eventually i moved in for 7 months..but found it too hard to take care of my family here and make that drive..plus he was being arrogant..so i went back home where we returned to the weekends together for ever after that. He died 2 years ago of cancer from lung and then bone cancer. Cigarettes for 20 years = cancer. Even tho he quite 10 years before. His mother died of breast cancer..he was so big and strong i think he thought it would never happen to him. He died one year from retirement. He called me little Lady and said i was "somthing else" tho i never quite knew what that meant..

My propasal from my husband was at Reb Lobster. We went there for dinner one night and then right before the food came he got down on his knee (in front of EVERYONE at the restuarant) and proposed. We got our food for free so two good things came from that night.

A mutual friend nagged me and nagged me and nagged me to meet Charley - said we had too much in common not to be perfect together. I kicked my ex out and was dating someone else casually, and the friend kept nagging and manuevering until finally we met a few times. I still balked. I was telling Charley about a movie (Prospero's Books) that I'd taped a few days before and he wanted to see it, so I offered to bring him the tape. He had other ideas and just assumed I was bringing it to his house to watch WITH him. I had no intention of doing that, but ended up doing it anyway - chalk it up to his force of personality and my never wanting to hurt anyone's feelings. Somehow or other we ended up together. I'm still not real sure what happened. At one point, about three months or so into the situation, I was walking at the track with the mutual friend and hit him in the head for getting me into the situation, lol! He still hasn't let me forget it, and I still tell him he deserved it. Charley has no idea why I hit Gary . . .
