So how often do you give your dog a shower? for me about once a week.
someone told me its good if you wait a month as the dogs coat needs the oil etc., is that true?

I believe it's fine as long as you use a gentle shampoo that doesn't strip the coats oils. :)

I don't wash Lucas unless he get's really dirty or stinky. :p

but if you have a small dog like me, and he sleeps with me on my bed, its always good to have him clean you know, so thats the thing
lol that's very understandable :p I just don't wash Lucas too much 'cause he doesn't sleep on my bed and doesn't tend to get dirty that often.

As long as you have a gentle shampoo, I believe it should be ok, but I'm sure someone with more knowledge on the subject will answer ;)

Depends on how muddy the boys get. I don't ever use shampoo on them. Just a rinse when we're all covered it mud.

I wash mine every 2-4 weeks depending on the dog with an oatmeal based shampoo and conditioner. I can't stand for any of them to go longer than a month without a bath, whether they smell bad or not (which they rarely do). So, as others have said, as long as you're using a quality, mild shampoo it shouldn't be an issue.

Duke gets bathed about 3-5 times a year. All depends on how muddy he is and then usually I just let him air dry and brush it out. The plus side with Duke is he very rarely gets a smell to him which is nice. And if he is sandy from the mudd and comes into bed as long as he stays on his side I dont care. Just shake it out in the morning.

I bathe Milo, my Maltese, every 7-10 days. His hair just gets too funky and mop-like if I don't. Plus -- I'm with you. Anything or anyone who shares my bed should bathe semi-regularly. :) I've never had a problem with our mild, animal shampoo (plum white).

My dogs get hosed down in the backyard, mostly in the summertime, 1-2 times a week. They get formal baths about every 2 months. My pups get formal baths at work about every week, just to get them accustomed to the procedure.

usually every week or 2 or whenever he gets smelly, I have to find a gentler shampoo or a conditioner of some sort because his fur is very dry atm.

plus he's cute when he's clean, he gets all fluffy.

Kona gets bathed about once a month, more if she gets really dirty (she hardly rolls in stuff anymore).

She has the most odd skin... she has horribly dry skin, and if I bath her, even with oatmeal shampoo, her skin gets very irritated...

Don't worry guys... she is going to the vet soon for her rabies shot, and we'll have her checked out then. Any ideas in what it possibly could be would be wonderful!

I've only given Tosca one bath in her life so far and that was when she was a puppy and got herself good and filthy. When I got Tosca I wasn't aware that there were some advantages to having a Collie. Her coat sheds dirt, easily brushed off. She is personally very clean and if her paws are dirty and I leave her alone for an hour or two, she cleans herself up pretty well. But the one thing I didn't know about Collies was they have little to no doggie smell. I was thrilled to learn this since the thought of bathing her was a nightmare in my mind. So aside from her scheduled groomings when she gets a bath along with her trim, I never personally bathe her.

the chis are once a month, they arent Outdoor dogs so dont get dirty too much, muddy paws are generally baby whipe time...

the crested is once a week...some breeds require a little more often bathing than others, dogs with more of a "hair" like coat get greasier easier than those with fur...she sweats...most dogs dont "sweat" but honest to godess, SHE sweats.

ive heard its fine to bathe any of the "hypoalergenic" and "long HAIR" (yorkies maltese ect) more often as long as a gentle shampoo is used.

Gunnar had one bath with shampoo, the 1st week we brought him home. Now he'll get rinsed with the hose if we go to the lake for swimming, and I'll soak him down once in a while if I'm using the hose for something else, as he loves to attack the water coming out of it. He never smells.

Daisy had one bath as well, but she likes to go into her doggie pool and get wet. We rinse her down with the hose as well. She never smells either. Both her and Gunnar, you can bury your nose in their fur and there is no doggie smell. Sometimes when they come in from playing outside, they are a little gamey, but my kids smelled the same way when they were little and came in from outside, lol! I attribute the lack of smell to their diet.

Bruzer gets about 2 baths a year with shampoo. He has a unique smell to him. I can't imagine how he'd smell if he wasn't eating what he's eating. He's scared of the water so he runs from the hose and won't go in the doggie pool.

Zoe swims almost daily either in the lagoon or the Bay. We rinse her down with plain water to get the salt off. We actually put her in the bathtub about every two weeks or whenever she starts getting too funky!

Teddy I bathe about every week to 10 days. I use a good dog shampoo or head and shoulders. I also clip his nails and scissor his feet and ears and stuff at the same time.

If your dog is a maltese (i'm just guessing from your sig) it's safe to wash them often, because of the type of skin and coat they have.

Milo gets a bath about every other week. I think the whole washing too often is bad for them is kind of a myth. At least with my dog, his coat gets oily and he stinks if i don't wash him often.
