i'm always glad to hear that i'm not the only person who has to deal with it, because it makes me really uncomfortable and annoyed. my dogs are not papered, intact, or conformationally correct. granted joe schmuck at petsmart with his big rednose outside in his truck (no, really) probably doesn't care about aspects one or three.

No offers to breed with Meg, but a lot of requests for puppies (and threats to steal her). I generally tell people they should just adopt random dogs from WV and they may luck out and get dogs from the same genetic background as Meg.

My favorite request for breeding was for my shep/boxer/whatever mix, who was six months old at the time. I worked at a kennel and another one of the employees had a neighbor whose male dog apparently looked just like her. The neighbor, who never met my nervy, dysplastic, spayed puppy, told the other employee to ask me to breed my dog with hers, since they would make such cute little pups.

WTF? Yeah, not happening.

I've gotten asked a few times about both boys. Zeus, because he's pretty. I never understood that--are all the other curs out there ugly or something? But I take it as a compliment, since the people who have asked have been other cur owners.

With Voodoo, it's either because he's a brindle 'houla or because it looks like "he'd make good hog dog puppies." One person thought Voodoo was a female "tiger stripe pit bull", and offered the stud services of his male. :rofl1:

Beau is the one that everyone wants a pup from. We have had so many people tell us to call if we bred him. He's just a really charming guy and one of those dogs you just have to fall in love with. He's full of charisma and just a real love n every way. Plus he's pretty. ;)

*perks up* Kharma puppies?

At a young age I did not know what "responsible" breeding was but I did know that people were not that bright.

When I was a little girl we had a litter of pups and I overheard someone from the neighborhood telling my parents that they had a relative with the same mix as the mama (GSD and Lab)and if we were interested in having another litter down the line he is sure they be interested in breeding him to her since her "mutt" litter came out so nice so she's got herself some good genes. LMFAO.

Even then I knew that statement had all kinds of stupid over it.

I feel left out. Everyone just wants my dogs, they never want puppies out of them. :(

;)
I get those as well. My favorite is when Millie and I were at Borders and this lady comes up and asks if Millie is a service dog. I nod, thinking it's a bit odd that I get that question all the time because she has a vest that says "service" dog" and "medical alert dog." We chat for a while and she repeatedly talks about how lucky I am to have a dog who assigned herself to being my SD and that she's a wonderful dog. (I agree. ;)) We part ways and as I go around the store I keep seeing her behind me. I turn to her finally and ask her if she has any other questions. She says, "Well, yeah, uh, is she for sale? I would love to have a dog like that." I just gape. Finally I say, "No, she's not for sale!" She looks wounded and rushes out the door.

 Not only am I not going to give my dog to any asshat who asks, no, you **** well can not have my service dog!

I think it's sad that so many people have been asked... and all but a few of them were with mixed breed dogs, or the dog being asked about is a mixed breed. Not that breeding out of standard/non-papered purebreeds is any better... but a least it's a micro step in the right direction.....

no wonder there are so many dogs in shelters.

no one has asked me to breed my dogs, but I have gotten "it's such a shame they're fixed. They would have nice puppies."

Lilly used to get the occasional offer from people who bred hunting beagles. Apparently she was just what they were looking for in a female, with a lovely temperment to boot. Now, this may have actually been true, I know nothing about pet vs. hunting beagles, but she was spayed by that time anyway.
Radar still gets offers, because he's such a precious little Westie-poo. (Yes, where's the gagging icon). My mother can hardly take him out in public without peope either wanting him, or wanting his nonexistant seed for their bitch (or dog, apparently Radar's gender is somewhat ambiguous. You know, despite the penis). I've been telling my mother to tell people sure, she'll breed him (he is fixed), but she wants a stud fee whether the mating takes or not. If you are stupid enough to want to breed your bitch to an neutered, mixed breed male, you are stupid enough to pay for the privledge. If only I could be sure he would know which end to mount! ;)

I've never been asked to breed my dogs. I've been told Daisy is pretty and Benji is cute, but nobody's ever wanted a puppy out of them. They are both fixed anyways since they are mutts and neither of them are in any way shape or form breeding worthy.

I own a pit bull, most of our guest dogs are pit bulls, and I live in San Francisco and work in Oakland... i can't walk out of the house with a dog without someone asking me to breed them or if they're for sale. :(

My standard reply is now, "No, they're rescue dogs. Just goes to show you can get anything you want from the shelter... you should go down and check it out yourself!"

Didn't read the entire thread .... very long. But ....

King, male GSD/Dane mix: Got those offers a lot ... because people wanted a "huge" and well-mannered GSD just like him. Some didn't believe me when I told them a.) He was a GSD/Dane MIX ... not pure GSD; b.) He was a rescue dog and neutered.

Cheyenne, female Golden Retriever: Constantly!! Yes, she was a beautiful medium-gold and exceptionally well-mannered. But in her purchase contract her breeder retained all future breeding rights ... and I would not have presumed to breed her on my own anyway ... but there was no explaining that second point to some people. She was eventually spayed when she was a bit older, and total strangers still asked to breed their males with her.

I never had someone ask to breed her, but I've had quite a few people offer me money on the spot for my "shorty" pit bull. A dude in petsmart said "She's make **** fine pups".

W....T... F....

She doesn't even look like a pit bull. She's 12" tall FFS! No pit bull that I have EVER seen, has been that size.

Very often!

First I will start with Harry. I have walked him and had people in cars passing by saying they had female dachshunds they would love to breed him with. I just said no thanks, and kept on walking.

And then LUCY, my POORLY INBRED TINY, THIN Chihuahua. I have had sSOO many people at PetSmart when I have taken her ask if I was going to breed her, cause she would have tiny little "Teacup" puppies. Firstly..shes spayed. Second, OF course I would NEVER breed this dog. I explained to a few people what is wrong with it.

I was at Food maxx the other day, and overheard a man talking about his pitbull puppy. The other guy asked "Are you going to breed her?" and he said "He!! yes.. I can get 500$ a pop". Sickening.

Not really, we did have a lot of people asking to be put on the list for one of Sophies pups, we were going ot breed her but glad we never did. She has a fantastic temperment but thats all, her conformation is bad. We did find a male we were going to put over her, about a week before she came into season though he was stolen. Very sad, he was a big brindle boy with a great temp. They're pups probably would have had a relaly good temperment but consider the type of dogs we were breeding they could have ended up in some very bad places.
