Lucy was at the vet for a booster rabies shot, and when the vet tech (someone who's new and I'd never met before) was weighing her, she said, "She has such a nice temperament, she's not snappy or shaky at all like so many other little dogs. I have a rat terrier mix who I think would complement her well. You should pass that temperament on."
Errr. Yeah. I'll breed my pet quality mixed breed with another pet quality mixed breed because she doesn't bite or shake.

Has anyone ever had someone who wanted to breed your dog with theirs?

Oh yeah.

I've had a couple of people offer to breed their dog to Sally. BOTH of them did so because Sally is brindle and so was their dog, and apparently I've been living under a rock and did not realize how incredibly rare brindle is...

Interestingly enough, both of the "breeding prospects" we mixes--one a dobie pit bull mix, and one was a boxer pit bul mix. The boxer/pit mix was actually a female too, so that would have been a feat even if Sally was not spayed.....

Jack has gotten a couple of offers too. A lady at our doggie day care wanted to breed her female lab to him and a guy who lives near us has asked us twice to breed his chocolate female to him.....

I get told I should breed Molly all the time, she is sooooo cute and look she is only just shy of 3 lbs!!! And she is sooo friendly for a Chi!!(as though she must be the only non DA, friendly Chi out there:rolleyes:!Never mind I have no papers, she is so hard to get to eat it's not even funny!! I have to get her fixed soon, but have been focusing on getting her weight up!! And don't even get me started on Foster.... I get so fed up I just point and say.. He is missing something very important to be a Stud ( Besides the fact he is a Mutt!!!)

Oddly enough Summer has not gotten this, nor has Rose. Beau has though, but I will give it to the lady that her dog was a purebred papillon, albeit a rescue dog.

Yup, and when I commented that Sierra was spayed I was told "what a shame!". I told her flatly that even if Sierra wasn't spayed I wouldn't be contributing to the pet overpopulation problem by allowing her to have puppies.

Oh yes, several times with my last dog (a neutered male min pin). Someone drove by when I had my Pug outside once and stopped in the middle of the street, asking if his friend could breed his dog with mine (before even asking male or female). I told him he's a neutered male, and he acted annoyed about it. I've had several people comment on neutering/spaying my dogs because I could have made money, especially by breed them together for Pug-Zu's

So it's pretty common, then. . .

I know, she seemed so bummed that Lucy is spayed. I did tell her I wouldn't breed her even if she weren't, though.

Yes

I have family members that want a Phoebe puppy so bad that can't stand it.

And then there are the ones who tell my how crazy I am for having Orson neutered *sigh*

Here's a story for you.

The last time someone mentioned breeding Orson was when I was walking him. I came upon these two young men, I'd say about 17-18 ish. One of the boys looks over (they were across the street from me) and says "Cool dobe! Are you going to let her have pups...........'cause I would really be interested"

Thankfully, before I could answer, his friend says "Dude, that dog is a HE.......can't you see he has a UNIT" :rofl1: I did chime in with "Not only does he have a UNIT, he has been neutered" hahahahahaha.............and to that they both had the "awe what a shame" attitude. LOL

Many , many time people wanted my males to " service " their Goldens . Most came word of mouth from vets . After I saw their pedigrees , their health testings , saw the female , talked about whelping areas etc , knew how many they could sell and how many I had on a waiting list ...I'd give it some thought . Over 30 years , I only agreed with 5 . One was a repeat breeding . Add : I forgot that a few weeks ago someone in a parking lot asked if I would breed Ollie to their male . LOL !!! They thought he was a girly dog !:rofl1:

People ask after Doom all the time. Thank God he's fixed... The stud fee's I've been offered are ridiculous, too. Though everyone always thinks he's pure flatcoat - he's a mix.
*facepalm*

I didnt get any offers until I had both dogs (look very much alike). Even when told they as half-siblings I would still be asked if they were to have puppies. Because duh.. that's why I am two.

Amber and I were going to breed Bamm and Middie together.... but sadly they don't get along well.... the puppies would have been really cute, though! :D :rofl1:

I hope you reamed her. She rescued an unwanted dog and then thought a litter of puppies from that dog could get homes? WTF? A side of logic with your hamburger, anyone?

Yep, many times. Stupid people with obvious BYB male Dobermans are always asking to breed with Keira. I've had a couple people ask about using Winston as a stud, too. First off, he's a rescue and not very correct conformation wise (hips are terrible, among others), and second, he is neutered.

Not quite the same, but I also always have people wanting a puppy from our supposed Keira/Winston litter. They just assume since we have a male and a female that we are in fact going to breed them. They don't even ask or anything - they just want a puppy.

We really just declined politely. I don't get it, though. I would think that of all our dogs, ROse would be the one everyone would want a pup from, but she's not. If I were an uneducated stranger and I saw my dogs, the one I'd want would be Rose. :rofl1:

Of course since we have four, everyone just assumes we're breeders ourselves. And when we had Nik and Trey when they were young, everyone asked if we were going to breed them.

Also, according to a friend, I should've gotten a female to breed to Beau to make lots of money. She was planning on doing this with her beagle. She was confused when I got Summer and she was spayed.

Happens all the time, depending on who it is as to how I reply.
A few years ago, I was at a 3 day workshop with Petie for agility with a guy that was over from Europe, this guy had won the Worlds in Agility and was also the judge for the finals there another year.
On the second day he says, Who was the fool that neutered that dog?? I replied, That would be me and it was done for valid reasons. lol he didn't think there was any valid reason but there was, Petie only had one.

Before I had Shippo neutered, this lady BEGGED me to breed him with her corgi.

Even after being neutered, people go "Would you ever breed him? I want one of his puppies," and walk away all sad and disappointed when I tell them he's already been neutered lol...

Yup, the conversation usually went like this

Them: Awww is that a boston terrier? I LOVE boston terriers

Me: Yup, he's a boston. (being very happy that they didn't say miniature boxer!)

Them: Is he neutered? You could make lots of money with him!

Me: Yes, he's neutered.

Them: Aww that's a shame! Why'd you do that?

Me: I don't need any puppies and there are plenty of other bostons out there.

Now Joey is nowhere near breed standard. Not to mention this conversation happened most of the time at the vets office in the waiting room. I really think most people don't have a clue.

When I had a rottie a guy asked me to breed with his pit bulls to make a badass junk yard dog, because my dog was so big.

I've had guys ask me to breed Reggin as well because he has a nice big head on him . One lady asked me to breed Reggin with her female when he was 6 weeks old. She told me that I should call her when he gets old enough.

Those people IRRITATE me.
