I'm still hung up on how none of your other school's credits transferred...I mean, I knew so many kids who transferred in at the middle of the year from California and they didn't lose a single one.

And even though this is just an internet forum, you obviously care enough about it to be on here everyday for hours at time. If you care enough to do that, then you should be caring enough about your 'image' to present yourself as the smart kid you want everyone to think you are. Right now, the 13 year olds have better spelling and grammar. And internet habits to spill over into real world writing. I can't tell you how many freshman comp. papers I helped read that were just chock full of stupid internet abbreviations and common mispellings. The worst part about it is that most of those students couldn't see why they were getting marked off for them!

OK heres my two cents worth

Rottiegirl - have you thought about homeschooling yourself to finish your HS Diploma? Some states offer courses via Internet. So you can work during the day and do your coursework at night when you get home. And of course you would have to pass state testing to get your diploma, but it can be done.

as for 91Ws WOOHOO!! If I could join the military thats what Id be.

Here in Arkansas to be a state trooper they prefer you to have a highschool diploma, a 4 year degree in Criminal Justice and/or 4 years experience in city or county law enforcement to be eligible for the 3 month boot camp they put you through.

Me I graduated highschool, went to college one year dropped out went to work in chicken plant, then while I was working 40+ hours a week and being a single mom I managed to get my EMT education and certs. And now Im working on moving and beginning Medic school getting my AAS degree in Paramedicine.

Many many many employers prefer that you have a diploma. Also you can make more money just for having a diploma versus the GED.

And read this the GED tests at the 9th grade level of education - not full completion of HS.

The only places around here that accept GEDs are Taco Bell, Sonic, McDonald's, chicken plant - but you can never be a supervisor without a Diploma - grocery store, lumber mill, and janitorial positions. Even though 80% of Americans have a HS Diploma, that Diploma opens more doors for you than a GED ever would. And more and more employers are requiring Diplomas. GEDs just dont cut it anymore. And most 4-year Universities req. a HS Diploma, and if you have a GED you must test at the freshman collegiate level before being accepted - meaning you have to test for collegiate algebra, english, literature, etc. And more and more scholarship foundations require a high school diploma in the application process.

Heres what Id do Rottie-
Go ahead an transfer from public school to homeschool. Work your 40 hours during the day and complete your coursework at home. Test for your high school diploma and have your diploma mailed to you. Then after completion of your diploma enroll in a 4 year university majoring in Criminal Justice. Carry a minimum of 16 credit hours a semester (this makes you eligible for full-time student status - which can give you certain scholarships and financial aide and discounts that part-time students dont get). Work a minimum of 39.5 hours per week in the evening such as from 3 to 11. Stay away from parties and work overtime during school breaks and spend your money wisely. Spend your non-working hours studying your butt off.

I was a college freshman taking 18 credit hours a semester working 35 hours/week, also working another 20 hours/week at a radio station, and doing another 20 hours week working at a theatre. And I was maintaining a 3.6 GPA both semesters. But my parents never had to pay a dime for my education.

As a future medic student and single mom I plan on working 3-12s on weekends from Fri-Sunday and going to school during the week. And setting high standards for myself to maintain a 3.2 GPA during my two year career as a medic student.

4 years isn't temporary...and even if you aren't taking anti-depressants any more, the fact that you took them for any period of time (especially 4 years) shows a history of clinical depression-which brings up the whole liability issue previously mentioned. You should really look into if it will be something that disqualifies you from law enforcement before you continue in a technical course that makes it too difficult for you to do your other schoolwork. You should be 100% focused on getting through school right now (and taking courses you need for graduation), and THEN if you decide college won't work, look into a massage school or esthetician course or something like that that you can complete in a relatively short time and use to enter the work force......pretty soon finishing at a regular high school won't be an option for you anymore, and then you will be seriously regretting it.
i know what the reqirements are to become a police officer, so i am not worried about that. right now i am leaning towards massage therapy anyway.

I really have no idea why i didnt receive my credits. Also, i am not on here everyday. When i am on here its because i have nothing better to do. I dont think that i have the worst spelling on here. I know that i have extremely bad grammar, but i am just being lazy. I know that my grammar used to be better when i first started posting in this forum. my school work is way different than what i type in this forum. I am not sure why we are talking about my spelling and grammar. All i wanted to know is if a GED is the same as a diploma.

No, police officers do not wear the vest. The vest is meant for P.T. only. It helps build your muscle legs and your endurance. The vest is full of weights.

Because in order to get either of those, your spelling and grammar count for a lot.

These days it is MUCH better to have your H.S. diploma than a GED. GED's give the impression that you couldn't hack high school and dropped out, or ran away or go in so much trouble with the law you couldn't finish high school...it's not always the case, but that's the impression it gives off.

My son has been going through this and is going to finish high school at the local college. Good luck to you..I hope all goes well. I would advise you getting your high school diploma rather then a GED. I've done alot of research on this for my son and you'd be better off.

That's great blue. I love hearing stories of people like you. My cousin is dyslexic and was doing poorly in school. They didn't know why until he went to a learning center and they figured it out. He got the help he needed and was held back a grade to "re-learn" what he missed. Now, he is in college on a full scholarship.

thats great!!

and just to share: I also have ADD, not dyslexia though, and I was able to get into the University of Michigan, and have almost a 3.8gpa (4.0 scale)

Atta girl Rottie! Glad to hear that you're finishing the diploma. I wish you the best of luck. What courses are you taking to finish?

-Dix
I need to take history classes, science classes, a math class, english class, PE, and elective classes. Most of the classes that i need to take are classes that i have already taken in Washington.

Unless you failed these classes in Washington I don't understand how these could not transfer. My husband is from Washington and we've both had tons of experience with transferring credits (I was a military brat and our kids are as well....we've moved alot)....something's fishy here (?)

 Why don't they transfer? And even if they don't why can't you challenge them? Just take the final exams. :p

I passed all my classes. I contacted my high school that attended last year and they said that my credits did not transfer because i owe money. I have no idea why i owe money or how much i owe.

Ask and pay... I think credits are worth something...
