Oooh have you played the one before that one? With Eliwood and Hector? that FE is the best by FAR. It's hard to find now and rather expensive but it's so good.

My favorite moment was in VII when cloud finds the orthopedic underwear. VII is hilariously off color. Of course the cross dressing part is also amusing.

Lmao, so this is totally not dog talk anymore. :lol-sign:
Nope, haven't played it. Want to now, though!

And I just about died when I played VII during the cross dressing part. I bought it, oh...about five years ago now. My ten year old (at the time) sister walked into the room while I was playing and was like, "Is that a guy? Why is he in a dress?" :rofl1:
If they made a remake with up to date graphics I would so buy it, but that whole scenario (Tifa getting "kidnapped" as a sex slave...the Bumblebee Inn...and of course, Cloud cross dressing) might be a little awkward with real life graphics. :yikes:

Yeah they seem to tone down the newer ones (unfortunately!) It was hilarious... I think they could get away with more in a teen rated game back then. I would kill for an accurate remake though of VII. But I think they'd have to tone it down if they did ever remake it, which makes me think they won't.

If you play FE, play Rekka no Ken. Hands down the best. It's rated best of all the series and one of the top gameboy games of all time. The others I've played are nowhere near as good, which makes me sad.

Fire Emblem (video game) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Downside is it's expensive since they don't make it anymore and it's the most sought after one of the series. But if you like the others, this one blows all the newer ones out of the water.

I remember getting so incredibly frustrated in the train graveyard, because I could never figure out how to maneuver past/through/around/on the trains. I always end up having to grab a walkthrough to get me through that part. (But, I do love Anxious Heart, so that makes getting lost a bit better.) That is one thing I don't like about the game...I can never for the life of me figure out how to get some places due to the graphics/depth being so bad. LOL Having the little arrow things help tons, but not all of the entrances have them.

I remember the first time I played it, I couldn't even figure out how to get out of the train station after battling those two SHINRA soldiers. (That was before I realized you could press the button and have the arrows pop up.)

Ohyeah... having the same problem with VIII. Thank god for modern day graphics. But the game is still good but I got stuck at the dumb train yard too.

Yeah, I have a hard time getting through the train yard as well. I really wish they'd do a remake of the game, because it would be really epic with newer graphics.

Me too. I would pretty much kill for that. The demo of the opening scene was sooo pretty. But no... we'll make XIII-2. Why? No one wants it. I hated XIII...

I haven't played it yet. I'm hoping I like it.
I know ALOT of people hated XII, but it is <3 to me. Course, I wish Vaan hadn't been the "main character"...I didn't mind him in the beginning, but once things got moving he played virtually no role at all and it irked me to have to do all of the "main character" stuff with him when he served no purpose whatsoever plot wise.

I loved XII, but hated XIII. XIII is just blah all the way around.

Disliked Vaan but Basch and Balthier are <3

I haven't played XIII yet. I was planning on playing that next, but I'm kind of scared of the game play after reading reviews.

I didn't like XII at all. I got maybe 3 hours through it and could NOT get into it no matter how hard I tried.

(i'm at Shinra headquarters now. I can't wait for Chocobo racing. lol. Actually, I'm just ready to be out of the city and into the world.

Ian's playing the PS3 and I really wish we had 2 of them. Haha.)

I adore XII. You need to get past the first few hours though. I played X then went straight to XII and it just has a very different feel to it. XII is way too easy though with the gambit system. About halfway through it gets drastically easier. The final boss was a joke.

But Balthier and Basch rank up there as two of my all time favorite characters in the series.

LOL Whenever I get to the Shinra headquarters, I always choose "sneak in the back" just so I can hear Barret whine and complain the entire time you are running up the stairs. :D

Balthier is my all time favorite character. I think he even beats Cloud out, and that is saying something. I never really cared for Basch, though. I liked Gabranth better.

And I don't have the problem of XII being too easy, because I am a failure at the gambit system. LOL I know the basics (who to attack, when to heal, what attack moves to use, order, etc.), but the advanced stuff confuses me and I can never get them to do what I want them to do. If it wasn't for the fact that time stalls when I'm trying to figure out what commands to type in, I'd have been screwed.

And I LOVE the fact that there are no random battle encounters. You can pick what and when to fight and I get a huge sense of satisfaction after I've destroyed all monsters in a given area. It is also nice that when I'm in a hurry to get somewhere I can run and not have to fight instead of having to engage in a random battle every few steps.

I really want to play FF. I always prefer going in order, but for some reason Amazon sometimes charges the most for the older games rather than the new(er) releases, so I don't know how it'll play out. Does it matter a whole lot if I go in order or not?

Nope. The games don't have anything to do with each other and take place in different universes. If you have a PS3 then you can get VII, VIII, or IX pretty cheap off the Playstation Center. I definitely recommend starting with one of those even though the graphics suck. But they're just classic.

^ what she said. I started with XII, then did VII, IV, VIII, X, and I'm currently on IX.

I don't even know what made me grab XII in the first place. I think it was sort of a, "Oh, Square Enix made this game...I like Square's other games and I've heard Final Fantasy is a good series...maybe I should pick this up." It started an addiction. LOL

There is a used game store nearby that carries almost all of the FF games (no V and VI, sadly :(). That is where I bought IX and X. VIII I downloaded and VII I bought off of ebay.

Yeah, this.

For the classics, I started with II (IV now), then V, VII, VIII, IX. The graphics for the PS2 games are much better than those, but I'd start with one of the earlier ones. I really wouldn't start with XII since it is a ton different from the others.

I wish PS3 had a demo for XIII because I really want to play it next, but I'm just afraid I won't like it. I will try it, though, since I've been a fan of FF for so long and played almost all of them.

I like busting in better. lol. I hate climbing all those stairs. It takes too long.

I snuck through the back. That was a lot of stairs.

Jessie, play XII seriously. It gets tons better once you get gambits and Basch and Balthier permanently in your party. Vaan sucks so once the plot is less about him, it's better. If you get past about the first 6 hours it switches from being about Vaan to being more about Basch and Ashe. No idea why Vaan is considered the main character though, he's really insignificant in the whole plot.

XIII just was very very blah to me. The gameplay was more involved than XII, which is good, at the final level of XII I didn't have to touch the controller to get them to level up. They'd walk themselves around and kill things just fine without me. All I needed to do was switch the gambits at the final boss. That was lame especially when you compare to how hard bosses like Sephiroth were. I wish they'd go back to the VII/VIII era gameplay style though I guess that just doesn't work with modern kinds of games? I dunno, but it was much more fun. I miss the good old days of cross dressing Cloud, Shinra, and the Turks.

Where XIII fails is plot line and characters. I swear NOTHING happens in that game. It's tedious and I hated everyone except Lightning but I only kind of liked her. She was no Cloud or Squall for sure... None of the characters have any dimension or depth. The plotline makes no sense and nothing happens. The graphics are very pretty though. I finished it and have zero desire to pick it up ever again.

I wasn't a fan of X either. Mostly because the characters were obnoxious except for Auron. I played X first.

Lol, maybe we should move this to the fire hydrant. :p

Boo. The one thing I really like about the FF games is the plot line and the character depth. I think that is why I liked XII so much - once you realize that Vaan isn't the main character, it takes on a whole new depth and meaning. There are so many political currents running around and so many inter-character relationships, it is just neat to see how it all unfolds.
Which is why I don't think I really liked X.

But yes, seriously, play XII!!! It is such a fun game, and the CGI (or whatever it is called) graphic sequences are amazing.

Lol, maybe we should move this to the fire hydrant. :p
And change the title to Final Fantasy Nerds Unite? LOL :p
