Yep! When I lived in Maine we were out of power for TWO WEEKS because of an ice storm (pretty sure it was in 1998 or 1999- it was considered a Big Deal). We had a couple of big generators since losing power was a normal thing during blizzards/ice storms.
I remember that storm, mostly because we were in school and someone pulled the fire alarm. I had on a tshirt lol. People were tempted to risk being burned to keep warm :rofl1:

NJ here... I'm not too happy about it. They're supposed to have a Halloween party at school on Tuesday too... while we're supposed to get 80mph winds and stuff. Ugh.

I'm mostly worried about losing power really. I don't really stock up on stuff for that reason (6 years ago or so when we had that other hurricane we lost everything in our huge freezer downstairs). And we get water in our basement easily so not too looking forward to that either. I didn't buy that much canned stuff (got water). We just never use them pretty much, so I don't want to spend too much for something that we'll probably not use. We didn't lose power during the hurricane last year, so I'm hopeful we'll be lucky again..

Glad I didn't waste time decorating for Halloween though LOL. But yeah, really hoping it decides to stay in the ocean.

I'll trade you all the hurricanes/ice storms of the East Coast for the tornadoes of the Midwest any day of the week!

yeah we didn't lose power last year either so really hoping we get lucky again LOL

I'm not scared of the storm persay... but losing power is never fun lol

Being up on the hill is good since we don't get flooded but if it floods we will be on an island basically lol so we won't be able to GO anywhere

Our tree is pretty healthy so hopefully it should withstand OK. I'm just worried about if we get heavy wet snow with this storm too... the weight of the snow plus the wind on the branches

I don't think it's going to be cold enough for snow. There are trees around the house but I don't think any of them is actually big enough to fall on it (the garage... possibly). But yeah, I hate having no power. Never know what to do and the kids go nuts. I need to get more flashlights tomorrow.

And tornadoes... I'll pass. I don't think you could pay me to go live in the MidWest, unless maybe my house was 99% underground or something.

They're saying snow, but I don't see it happening. Maybe further north, but here it's been in the 60s, and the storm is passing through more warm areas before it hits. Maybeeee a lil freezing rain or mixture or slush, but I don't see any heavy snow accumulating before the big winds, I just don't see how or where it'd come from or how it would last.

I *LOVED* losing power as a kid. We played cards or board games or did art stuff by candlelight or with battery powered lanterns. It was pretty much the only time my family weren't all staring at screens.

I just remember last year (almost the exact same date lol) when we got hit with a freak snowstorm. It was such a heavy wet snow because it wasn't that cold and it downed so many trees and electrical lines.

Losing power is exciting for the first couple hours. candle light, board games, etc. but once you need to start being functional again it's a real pain in the arse lol

It's concerning when you have "other" pets...my fish will kick it and so will the birds if it gets too cold. Otherwise as long as the house keeps standing, even though it sucks, I'm fine. I'm considering if I want to bring the birds to work on Monday but I'm crossing my fingers that it won't be that bad. Hopefully most of the trees that could fall were taken out last year.

yeah we have a goldfish. I'm hoping she'll be OK for a couple days if we lose power

I'm sort of hoping it only knocks out power to the lab so I get a paid day off, but can have power at home for playing!

Mostly I'm very worried for friends who still haven't gotten their feet back under them after Irene hit last year. It sounds like this is going to be longer, steadier rain rather than the deluge we got last year that caused so much damage - much of it still unrepaired. Hopefully the rivers will stay within their banks and we'll just be whining about the mud on our shoes when it is all over.

Hi neighbor :) I'm in Chesapeake.

I don't think it's going to be that bad here. Looks like we're going to get a bunch of rain and some wind.. which we've all dealt with before!
Hey! I think I liked you on facebook! I never connected the two before...

Random, but keep in mind that your homeowners (and maybe renters not sure) insurance may pay for food lost when power goes out. I remember a friend getting reimbursed for lost food due to a power outage just a week or so ago and they didn't even require her to pay the deductible first.

Shoot, I didn't even think about Aidan! We always lose power in the summer.

I'm not expecting us to lose power for more than a day or two, tops, but still...how do I keep him warm?!?
