My doxie girl had her pups today. She was 4 days early. The first one was breach and we lost him. She was just having a hard time delivering him. The next 2 also came breach, but she had an easier time with them. The next one was normal, and the last was a big one and she really had a hard time with him. She was able to deliver his head but then the shoulders got stuck. I'm so glad I was home with her. When I finally got the last pup out I had to do mouth to mouth to help him along. If I wouldn't have been home we would have lost him also if not the whole litter. She had 2 boys and 2 girls. 2 dapple and 2 red sable. Everyone's doing great and will post pic's in a couple of day's if I can figure out how.:D :D

Congrats on the pups, sorry about the lost puppy :( Keep us updated and pics are a must! ;) are you a doxie breeder or was this an accidental breeding? I wish you luck with the pups!

I hope these pic's come thru. Everyone is doing great. Mom has settled in very nicely with them and is a very good mom. How do you post pictures on here. It doesn't seem to work the way I wanted it to.

Mollie's pup's

They do not have any titles. I don't show my dogs. I breed for companionship and temperment. All of my dogs have been vet checked and females hips checked for being able to have pups. All my males have had the same thing. None of my dogs have papers as I have chose not to have papers with them. Families on my adopting lists want pet only not a show dog. I guarantee all my pups and take them back for the life of the dog if they can no longer keep them. I also have a spay/neuter clause in the contract. Anybody can come to my house and see both parents. They can walk into the yard and the dogs will come up to try and play. I know everyone on here believes in showing dogs and breeding only show quality stock. But there are people out there who can't afford the big bucks for the puppies. I don't charge that. I'm more interested in seeing that they have a happy home than the money.

I sound like a broken record, but I just don't buy that "I don't register or show or title my dogs because I want them to be cheap for da people" argument. I was a gas station peon and I saved up $600 for my dog, as well as the other $700 we needed to build a city-mandated (BSL) kennel, get the insurance, and put up a privacy fence to avoid harassment. Not to mention travel costs driving 2 states away to get my dog.

As far as I'm concerned, charging a sensible price (not exorbitant, but not cheap) weeds out the serious people from the chaff. If they can't afford $600 or more for a puppy, what do you think they're going to do when that pup jumps off the couch and injures its back and needs surgery? What about the areas that charge $400 for a spay? How will they afford that? Breeding to get good pets is admirable, but should not be the whole focus. A top-quality show breeding will still produce some pets. Its like baking a batch of brownies just to get the ones that are burnt on the edges; you'll get those in every batch. Except that nobody is going to be buying a brownie for companionship for the next 10-15 years.

Breed to improve the breed, not as a service to all the low-income puppy buyers out there who desperately need a Dachshund. Breed improvement is the only reason to do it. Anything else is just BYBing. And yes, I spoke with an absolute. No, I am not a Sith.

Personally, I hate to see people who breed dogs, and over breed their dogs to turn a nice $600 per pup profit. Yeah, they're cute, but when it comes right down to it, your $600 pup isn't going to be any cuter or more loveable than the one I get at the shelter for $150.00. It may not have papers or a pedigree, but I bet it'd be just as appreciative of the nice loving home and family it's getting as the $600.00 papered pup.

I think it's nice that there are people who breed the animals because they love the breed and aren't in it to make a nice bank roll. They just want to share their dogs with people who will love them and not necessarily be able to afford high dollar prices for a dog that they would cherish. I've seen doxie pups online for as much as $2,000.00...piebald dapples and double dapples... knowing that that type of doxie is known for having a whole series of health issues and infirmaties...but they breed them anyway for the "rare" effect..people like this are no better than puppy millers as far as I'm concerned.

When the time comes for Bailey to pass away, and I'm not fooling myself into thinking that at 11yrs old it's going to be more than 3 or 4 more years tops, my husband has already stated that he wants a wire-hair doxie...but I don't know that we'll do the whole "champion bloodlines" thing...I know we won't. The champion bloodlines thing is nice if it's going to be a show dog I guess.. but to me it's just a resume bumper for a higher price.

And...

Breed to improve the breed, not as a service to all the low-income puppy buyers out there who desperately need a Dachshund. Breed improvement is the only reason to do it. Anything else is just BYBing. And yes, I spoke with an absolute. No, I am not a Sith.
That just sounded rude..Low-income families have just as much to offer a pup as high-income families do. It's not money that makes the love.

That all sounds great, Jingles. Like you are doing it all right. It sounds like you really care about your animals and their welfare. You sound like the type of breeder I'd want to go to.

I see you are from Wisconsin? Which part? I'm in Brainerd, MN but in-laws are in the Rice Lake area.

Did you read the part where I said I was a gas station peon and saved up to buy my dog? If they want a puppy and don't want to support a backyard breeder, they'll save up the money. Most of the people who desperately need a certain type of dog but can't afford to pay a respectable price have no business owning a dog whatsoever. Again, what happens when the dog needs emergency surgery? This is not a rich household, but we sacrifice all for our dogs.

There is an abundance of pets out there. Why is it wrong to ask that in order for a breeder to be considered reputable, they go the extra mile? If I can dump hundreds on health tests and thousands on going to shows, working events, etc. -- all on a dog who will never be bred -- why is it wrong to ask that someone who's perpetuating a breed do the same? Again, this is not a rich household. Dog breeding is a hobby, not an inalienable right. If you can't afford to do it right, that's really too bad.

If you want a dog, don't care about papers, don't care how its bred, don't care if the parents were champions or culls, then why not rescue? At least that way you don't support iffy practices.

All I did was post to anounce the birth of a new litter and I get quized. Thank you to those that support me and to those who don't, have you ever seen the face of a person who can't afford that $600 puppy, or the little boy that's handicapped whose mom just got them a puppy at an affordable price. I have and it's priceless. I paid over $300 for most of my dogs to have the great genes and temperment and disposition on my pups. I also can register them with CKC but have chose not to. I spent almost $10000 on a kennel system so each dog has it's own space and not together all the time. They have 17 acres to run and get the best food I can buy, plus all the love and attention most dogs don't get. I don't go on vacation, I can't afford new cars and I work and make less than $25000 a year. I save so my dogs are happy and healthy. Like you did also so can other people. They get there dogs spayed/neutered. Vets around here don't charge an arm and a leg for services. It cost me $125 for 2 neuters and rabie shots for my 2 male dogs. It cost me $129 for the vet to come to my house and give shots to all my dogs and 1/2 of a spay that I paid for a dog I adopted out. she's on a limited income like most eldery people and wanted companionship, I provided that for her. Will you do that for anybody? I don't feel bad about what I do. I can sleep at night knowing I made somebody's life a little happier.
PS. I live in Central Wi by the Wi. Dells area.

Yet again, if they can't afford a $600 puppy, who provides for those dogs when they need emergency treatment?

We paid big bucks to get a Coronavirus dog healthy again. It was a dog we'd bred and given away, and the owners (big surprise) couldn't afford to continue her shots, and also couldn't afford to pay to make her healthy again.

I guess its good that you're not supporting a trash registry. But I still think that breeding slightly right doesn't make it acceptable. Like I said, its a hobby. I know breeders who are doing everything right and will give their dogs away to serious homes. If people want companionship, let them rescue. If they want to buy a dog, let them support breeders who are doing right, not making excuses.

Boards should have rules with minimum standards for posting litter announcements.
