Our dogs don't get to sleep with us :( as Allie likes to think that my husband's side of the bed is technically hers. Although the other night he agreed to let them sleep with us and I woke up to her nose an inch from mine, spooning with Jeremy, his arm around her and hold one of her paws in his hand :) The bed just isn't big enough for all of us.

We used to have a leather living room set that we let the dogs on, as they couldn't scratch it and the fur didn't stick. We JUST bought a new microfiber set, and I guess the new rule is that there are no dogs on the furniture.

Does anybody not allow dogs in bed or on the furniture? I wouldn't mind it, but the hair gets a little overwhelming, and I'm always worried about stains. It makes me feel bad to enforce the "no dogs on new sectional rule" as Allie and Noodle are used to being able to snuggle on the couch. Already Allie has been giving me the abused Lab look all day because I won't let her up there.

I feel like a bad mommy :( But the furniture was a grand!

Ours go on everything, basically. Back when we just had shelties, they were actually only in one section of the house, but now the dogs all go everywhere.

Summer sleeps with me. :)

Our dogs are only allowed when invited. They understand this firmly and are fine with it.

The only real exception is when they hop on the bed in the morning to wake us up. Thats fun and we don't mind. :)

Mum wo't let any dog except Mac on the lounge (and she has to be on a blanket at all times)

As soon as I move out, sofa is public domain.

Ollie and I live here alone . It's his house as well as mine . He has his covered futon and shares my bed at night . His company is more important than the extra dog hair . Right now , he's been in my bed twice , wondering why in H I'm still on Chaz !!!

Why would I pay to feed a dog to produce body heat if I'm not going to use him as a bed or couch warmer???

Nanook is on the couch all the time. On the bed rarely and only by invite. Mav can't be bothered.

On the furniture and in our beds but they must moved or get down when asked to, no exceptions.
Gezz with these cold Canadian winters they are just like hot water bottles under the covers, nice and toasty.
It would seem really strange not to have them there. A few years ago I was in the hospital for a week for my back. They allow your pets to come in visit, my hub brought Petie in to see me. Petie jumped onto the bed, greeted me with tons of licks etc then dove under the covers, spun around and stretched out beside me with his head on me. Settled in to stay according to him, he wasn't a happy camper when Hub took him home (neither was I).
More hospitals should allow that, it makes you feel so good to visit with your pet.

None of my animals are allowed on the furniture, not even the cat (but that doesn't stop him from doing so when I'm not home). I highly doubt I'll ever let any dog of mine on the couch or bed.

Mine are allowed on both bed and couches, though if there is company over, Sawyer knows to ask for permission. It's really quite cute when he does it...he lays his head down on the cushion and looks pleadingly at you. Virgo doesn't really get on the furniture if someone else is on it anyway.

The Tollers are allowed on the furniture, but only when invited. I allow Dance on my bed, but she rotates between it, her bed, and her crate throughout the night. Spring is crated at night for the time being, but once she's a little older and I know her better, she'll be allowed on my bed as well.

Keira is not allowed on any furniture -- she cannot handle such privileges wisely. Winston is allowed on one couch all the time, and the other when invited. He sleeps on my mom's bed.

My gang is allowed pretty much everywhere. I try to keep them off the leather sofa until I put a sheet on it to keep thier nails from tearing it, but so far I have just been leaving the sheet on there LOL

My dogs are not allowed on the furniture. I cannot give them this right and they obey me.

They are, however, allowed on the bed when it is 'allowed.' It is not a right. It's an invitation and a privilege...that we mutually enjoy. They know their place.

Dog on Furniture

Hi there,

I've been tempted to let my dog sleep in my bed with me because it's so hard to say no when he gives me those big puppy dog eyes! But I resist because I know the consequences aren't worth it. If you let your dog sleep with you he'll likely form an unhealthy attachment, and may start experiencing intense anxiety when you're not around. As a result, he may start barking and howling when you're at work. It's really best for dogs to have their own space--a den, if you will--and to keep to it at night.

Best of luck!

Furniture, no my Dobe ruined it for everyone, lol. He would eat rawhides :)yikes: i know) on the couch (which left gross white stains, that would give any visitor the wrong idea :rofl1:). My current dog is allowed on the bed, but I have to kick him off eventually because I cant breathe with a 70lb pup laying on TOP of me lol, not to mention the numerous punches I endure throughout the night.

LOL, my sep. anx. dog is the one that *doesn't* sleep with me, by her own choice.

The most common issue that arises from having bed/couch privledges is if the dog is allowed to guard them as a resource or resists being told to move or get down. We've all heard of people who can't sleep in the bed when the dog is there, which is sad. However, unless you are the type to let your dog call all the shots, this is not a terribly common occurance and is an easily fixed one should it occur.

i love having dogs in bed. luce chooses to sleep on the floor during the summer and i really miss her.
