Be honest...we slip minimal amounts every now and then...Victor enjoys a good lamb bone three or four times a year. Do you ever slip a bone or a chunk of steak every now and then?

our dogs are 2, 7 and 7 yrs old, of different sizes and breeds and they get fed human food atleast twice everyday.
they get butcher scraps a couple of times a week, and for the rest of the time they have biscuits, they r never fed canned food because it is useless and it makes them sick...
we dont feed them meat or another substantial meal everyday because in the wild, dogs will kill something, gorge themselves and not hunt for a few days
feeding our pets this way is a lot more natural
our dogs have been eating human foods all their lives and none of them have ever got sick.

My grandparents (one is now deceased and my grandmother has no pets, now), used to give their chihauhau's a cup of coffee every morning! I thought it was unreal as a little kid, but, both of their chihauhau's in my lifetime that they had, always received the faithful cup of coffee every morning with their Daddy and Mommy while they read the morning paper!

All of my dogs get "people food." But not only meat. They also get a good share of fruits and vegetables. I just watch out on the sugar. I don't like for them to have a whole lot of that. But, as long as it is in good portion along with a good normal doggy diet, then I don't see a problem with it! :) And they love me for it.

I think human food would be like prepared thoroughly cooked food, such as lasagna. But, veggies and fruits, I don't consider those only human food. I've always thought, "What do wild dogs eat besides meat?" I'm sure they don't avoid the fruits, though they are mainly carnivores. But, since it is fruits and veggies are completely natural, I see no harm in those. But everything else, I do in moderation.

I boil a whole raw chicken in water till it's cooked (takes nearly 2 hrs) once a week, i give Gus the stock over his dry dog food (he wolfs it down too quickly otherwise!) and he gets the chicken meat (not bones!!!) as treats.
And yeah he eats grass, normally if he's had bones and there's a bit he can't digest so he eats grass to vomit it up!

You should see Shiva and Kharma picking blackberries with me in the summer!

Smkie, I've always done that "last bite" ritual with my dogs too. It's a strong bonding process, and it eliminates mealtime begging, too!

Of COURSE, mine eat human food, lol! And they steal, too! (The girls, not Bimmer.) I wasn't paying attention to where Kharma was yesterday morning, and when I missed her, I found her back in the bedroom, on the bed, blithely finishing off the last of a half-dozen multi-grain bagels. Breakfast in bed

One of Shiva's more spectacular thefts was a bag of Oreos . . .

And there are those times when I've been fixing dinner, only to look for the meat I had set out and not find it. I'm always so sure I'm losing my mind and just can't remember where I set it down - until I hear the furtive rustling of butcher paper and careful smacking of jowls . . .

I share my last bite with Brady a lot too. Sometimes though I have to tell him to go lie in his bed because he can't help himself, and he knows he can't. That sniffer of his is so good that his tongue gets going as if he can already taste it just by smelling it. He knows he can't help it so sometimes he is willing just get in his bed because he can't control himself. He tries to lie his head pitifully in my lap and his LONG tongue gets going and he will start hitting the plate with it "accidentally" (on purpose). I always let him lick the plate too when I am done, but not the good plates, just our everyday plates. I know, I 'm bad.

Oh and I have caught him in the kitchen licking the griddle after we have cooked hamburgers or bacon on it. Thank goodness it has always been cooled down by this time. I always get on to him because I know he may get to it too fast one day before it is cool. That is another reason why he goes to his bed most of the time while we eat.

I give Princess my last few bites, depending on what we have. She lays down and waits patiently for me to put it in her dish, no begging. The only begging she does is if we are eatting candy! The smell drives her nuts and she tries to get us to give in. Of course she isnt allowed any but she sure tries.
