  I can't believe people can be this cruel to such an innocent animal. I let Missy & Mocha out this morning to release themselves, after about 5 minutes, Missy returned, but Mocha didn't, so I came out to look for him. I didn't see him anywhere, so I began checking with the neighbor (who's watering her front yard) - she said she didn't see him, I then walked the block and continued calling his name. A few neighbor came out to help me look, but we couldn't find him. When I returned to my house, suddenly Mocha came running from my neighbor's house covering in blood, and soaked in water! He was strembling and scared to death. I immediately took him to the emergency clinic. The vet told me that someone has cut very deep into the quick of his FIVE toenails, one/two in each paw!!!!!

Please someone calm me down, because I'm EXTREMELY disturbed by this and oh so mad. I wanted so badly to report this neighbor to the police or animal control, but I have no evidence. Anyone in her household could have done this, and I have no proof. What can I do now beside never leaving Mocha & Missy out of my sight?

Thanks for letting me vent!

That's really horrible :( I would definitely complain about it, then maybe they can come and ask questions to the neighbors.

OMGOMGOMG!!!

I'm HORRIFIED to read this.. i have goosebumps all over and my stomach is soo upset.

That is the worst thing I have read in a long time! Especially from a Chaz dog too!!

Report them ANYWAYS. There will more then likely be a BLOOD TRAIL!!

Get the police involved ASAP!!

Poor Mocha will more then likely be lame for along time now and be completely petrified of his nails trimmed again. That hs caused irreprible damange mentally!!

Report, report, report! You have neighbour witnesses - they were helping you look for him!!

PLEASE keep us updated! In the least - those *refrain words* MUST pay for the vet bills!

Something to think of too - do you have a fenced yard? Do you have any idea on how someone could have got a hold on him?

I have a fenced back yard, but not in the front. We have a HUGE backyard that is like a horseshoe shape, fenced all around, with the house in the middle. The dogs have never ventured to the front before (my front yard is also very big), but for some reasons Mocha might have done it this morning, and got lost to the neighbor yard somehow.. I don't know. I just can't see that the neighbor went to my house to pick him up and did this. Maybe they was upset about something and placed the hatre and rages on Mocha when they saw him on their yard, but it doesn't matter what reasons, they should not be hurting him like this. This is by far the cruelest thing I've ever seen in my life!!

Beside the fact that i do not have any proof that they did this, part of the reason I'm afraid to report them is because we've been neighbor without incidents for a while. They do their things, I do mine, we rarely exchange any words, but have lived in harmony until now. I'm afraid that if I report them, it'll be much worse. They may seek revenge on my dogs, since my dogs are out back by themselves when my husband and I are at work. (We built them a very big shaded, gated, and fenced area on the back yard and put them there when we leave for work). When we are at home, they're allowed to run free on the entire backyard, but I'm afraid they don't have that freedom anymore

im sorry that happened, it must be terrible.
are you sure the neighbor did it? ive seen injuries like that on dogs when they get stuck somewhere and they try to dig out - some of their nails get rubbed down to the quick and they bleed. my own dog will have his nails bleed when he plays ball too heavily from the running.

There is nothing between my neighbor's house and my house that he can get stuck on, but again, I do not have any proofs to incriminate anyone either. I'm just too upset & emotional right now to come over to find out what's happened (when I found him, all his legs were bleeding, and he was soaked in water! I saw the neighbor watering her garden a few minutes earlier, so immediately I thought they must have done this... i could be wrong, BUT.. how else could I explain what happened to him??

If you've never had any problems with your neighbors before, why would they all of a sudden do something so horrible? Is it possible that something else happened to his nails (it could be anything, really) and maybe he ran through your neighbors hose on his way back to your house? You should really see if there is a "blood trail" like someone suggested. The answer may lie at the end of it. Ask your Vet if the nails look like they were cut off or torn too.
Your neighbor would have to be a pretty sick person to do something like that and you have had no prior indication that they are mentally disturbed.
Hope you get to the bottom of this....and I feel bad for your poor baby, regardless of what happened.

First, DO not let your dog out of yout site again. You can not be sure something worse wont happen next time.

Second, report this! Even if something can not be done to them at least instilling in them the fear that YOU know what happened may be enough to stop them, plus you will have a record with a police, god forbid there is ever any other problems in the neighborhood.

Third, give MOCHA a big hug from all her Chaz friends. I hope she is feeling better soon.

Good Luck

Please report it. Thats horrible. If they didnt do it, good, but if they did they should not get away with it. I cannot imagine if I found Katie like that. Im not Miss Big bad tough girl or anything, but if you hurt my family, and my dog is part of my family, I will fly off the handle. Reporting them is minimal in my opinion. i would make their life a living hell..and do not let your dogs out of your site. Lock the gate , and keep them away from your neighbors. !!!

How horrible! Either report it or do as others say in see if you can find a "blood trail". It could be your neighbor, but I've had a dog rip is claw way down past the quick just running around. Either way, look into it.
Hope Mocha is feeling better!!!

since you have no eye witness..reporting is pointless. I can't let Vic out of my sight when outside for i have no fence and he is border trained. Still i have to be out there with him, as much as a pain it can be and inconvenience, i feel better about watching him too for several reasons. People steal birddogs, especially one like Vic so i never have to worry about that. I don't have to worry about neighbors or roaming dogs for i am right out there to monitor his play time. I also get to laff at him as he runs around with a big ol grin on his face looking alot like a coyote. Sorries about your pup, hope nothing like that ever happens again.

I can't see reporting something when you have no true idea about what might have caused it. Toenails DO rip (just like fingernails rip) and I've had my own dogs end up with bleeding nails because they caught them on something or skidded on a hard surface. You're running on assumption and wanting to blame someone, but if you report that your neighbors did this and they DIDN'T, then you're the bad neighbor.

If I turned my dogs out loose and didn't watch them and didn't have them in a secure fenced area, then the only person I could really blame is me. Granted, if someone did something to your dog then that person is not a good person, but to look at this logically - who would catch a dog and then cut its nails?? That just doesn't make any sense at ALL. Think how many dogs are weird about their feet anyway .. if a person wanted to hurt a dog, there are a lot of ways to do it that don't involve trying to hold a foot and cut nails.

I hope Mocha heals quickly. It's probably too late now, but the less fuss you make over something like this with the dog, the less problems you'll probably have later on. If you're crying and cursing and upset, then it just makes the whole thing bigger in the dog's mind and gives it more reason to act scared next time you want to handle the feet. When I quick a dog (happens on rare occasion) I just tell them "it's a long ways from the heart, you'll live!" and I go on and do the rest of the nails. I'm not being heartless, I'm just not going to fuss and build the whole thing up in the dog's mind.

Does it look like the nails were cut? If you are sure they were clipped, go back to where you saw Mocha first running from. If that means being in your neighbors yard, oh well. If they weren't involved they'll have no problem letting you investigate and back track to where Mocha started from. See if there is blood on their steps. Look for puppy paw prints. Look for anything that could incriminate them. Ask the neighbor - point blank - Did you hurt my dog and clip her nails to short? If yes - Why? You need to pay for her vet bills.
So, back track from where you saw Mocha running...ask your neighbor...gather evidence. Then report if you find any evidence. Even if you don't, let animal control know so maybe they will patrol and keep an eye on the neighborhood.
