My doctor actually prescribes birth control for people having trouble getting pregnant. It regulates your cycles and makes things easier when you stop. Apparently it's a complete myth that being on it for a long time makes it hard to get pregnant. I came off it and was pregnant the first month. Oyy.

Logan was 5 weeks early. He was a shrimp (5 lbs, 9 oz) but avoided the NICU and was healthy. He had trouble nursing, but since I went back to work after 6 weeks, nursing wasn't really a realistic long term solution anyway, so I didn't care about pumping.

Congrats to all the soon to be mommies.

Congrats Dizzy! Yay potential Chaz babies! I'm excited for all of you.

I've also heard the average is six months to get pregnant. We tried for three months but I didn't have BC in the mix.

Why am I worrying so much!?
I was worried about being able to stay pregnant before we started trying. I think it's pretty normal actually - it's a complete unknown involving a potential tiny human and it's scary and anxiety inducing.

Also, the best way I can describe trying to conceive and everything that comes after it? Total mind ****. Seriously. As soon as you get used to one thing something else changes. That was hard for me for awhile.

Super good to know. I'm going in for my yearly physical sometime in the next month so I'm planning to speak with the physician about it in depth, but that makes me feel better about staying on it until we're ready, especially since before starting it I had irregular cycles.

I have pcos and dr thinks just coming off the bc is the only reason I got pregnant. She recommends I think three month cycles to regulate then try.

Mine told me 2-3 cycles as well. However, we're sort of anti-birth control outside of Depo so I asked about the chemical affects (effects?) of getting pregnant sooner on the child and she said there is none, just may be harder on my body.

For those gearing up for TTC, are you doing anything special to prep? Either physically, mentally, or even just household/stuff related.

I've been reading and researching things for years, but now I'm starting to keep a look out for good deals on items I plan to use. I already have an ergo and couple of cute baby shirts. LOL

I'm also working hard to get into really good physical shape: lots of hiking, trying to eat a bit better, taking vitamins regularly, upping my water intake, etc. A friend of mine did CrossFit throughout her pregnancy and she bounced back super fast, even with a c-section.

I'm also making sure all of my dogs have been introduced to small children (thank goodness for my friends with kids who are dog saavy) and considering putting together a small kennel set up so that I have options if i get overwhelmed. A friend mentioned that the hormone rollercoaster right after birth was a b*tch, so I'm def a fan of giving myself options for sanity.

Started vitamins, workout regimen (for the reasons you listed), and we're planning a pen/fencing situation so we can rotate dogs outside and separate them to make things a little more manageable. Right now we let all 6 out loose with us at the same time. They can't go out without us because we have no fence.

Add me to the TTC club - although we're currently nt/np and I think we're going to wait another cycle or two so that 1) I don't feel awful trying to plan Lillian's first birthday and for visiting family and 2) so I can finish 1 more year of school before the baby comes

ETA: I'm taking prenatals, not working out anymore than usual but I'm in good shape anyway, and currently deciding whether to stay on potentially harmful to a fetus medication (but necessary for my well being) or not. Also no drinking (more than one drink)/smoking. Trying to eat a balanced diet (which I always try to, sometimes I just try harder) is the toughest. And budgeting for another kid. And trying to teach my daughter not to poke babies' eyes and step on them.

I haven't even begun to think of purchasing baby things. But I also have a mother and mother in law who have a ton of baby things that I'm hoping will be inherited by me. Lol

I am trying to hit the gym more often - I want to be in shape and at my proper weight before getting pregnant.

For the dogs, Cynder will be fine (although she wont be thrilled) and we've been reinforcing Abrams tolerating all sorts of weird handling/behavior. He'll be great, too. He loves kids. I probably need to start heavily reinforcing him being calm and not bouncing around, but he tends to know who he can clobber and who he can't, so I'm not horribly concerned.

I was on the prenatals and a folic for a couple months before trying.

Other than that it was terrible timing lol! Six months into pregnancy we finally got our new house after looking for years and it completely needed remodeled. Would have been in on time but baby was a month early. Also screwed up cuz work was bought out and ins changed. And my best friend was diagnosed with cancer and died the month I had him.

I only bought something if it was really really cute and I just had to get it. I was so anxious id be unable to get pregnant that I didn't want to put more stress on me by having a whole baby room and no baby. Once I found out sex I went nuts.i was paranoid something would happen pretty much into 23 ish weeks.

Being in shape prior is great. As soon as my first ultrasound they wanted me on bed rest though so even walking was a no go. I'd not be one of those comfortable enough to have a heavy work out routine. I'm a chub but and had a c section and also recovered very quickly.

It all works out. My nursery still isn't really together and Case is four months old lol. He is suuuch a good baby and I think us being so calm and relaxed about it all really helps.

I decided to just take it slow with the critters. If Byron had still been alive id have trusted him but blitz is crazy! He has shockingly known to settle around baby case though. Spend a lot of nights just me blitz and case sitting by the pond.

Good luck to you all and yay Dizzy!!!

I'd been on BC for years and I think it was just a few months being off them and ttc (four maybe?) before I got pregnant. I'd taken vitamins/folic acid beforehand (and during, obviously) but otherwise didn't change much. I'll also note that I'm about as far as you can get from being in shape and had no issues recovering. (I was out and about shopping a few days after he was home.

A girl I know took her last pill mid January on her wedding day and was pregnant by February. She'd been on it years....

Took us 10 months on and off of semi casually/semi seriously trying. I was exercising, eating right, using opk etc.

As soon as I stopped exercise, started eating junk, didn't have sex at the 'right time', booked a child unfriendly holiday, didn't want an Xmas baby.... wham! Pregnant.

It quite often doesn't go to plan and I'm noticing the harder some people try and plan, the longer it takes them.

I say if you're happy to get pregnant just start having unprotected sex lol. The only thing I was strict on was we both took vitamins for months before. Plus I also took vitex and maca root and I'm convinced they balanced my hormones and increased progesterone for me (I has physical changes first month). But my hormones have always been a bit mad so I wouldn't recommend them for those with normal cycles.

The stress of being pregnant though far outweighs TTC!!!!! For sure!

As to the meds part. . . stay on it if it's necessary for you. If there's a fetus-safe one you can switch to that helps you just as much, win-win. If there isn't, take your chances. Destroying your health for the sake of a baby seems terrible for you, and will affect your life, your schooling, your SO, and Lillian. I don't know what the medication is, and I'm not saying this is the same thing at all, but Dooce has some really good blog posts and interviews about her decision to stay on a potentially harmful medication while pregnant.

Dizzy: CONGRATS!!!!!!!!! OMFG! So excited for you. You've been talking about this for ages, and I know you'll make a wonderful mum. And Bodhi and Fred are probably super excited.

Thanks!! Does mean I might have to cancel my holiday though, because of the issues I've had :(

I really wanted to find a onesie in Vegas that said "Vegas baby" lol. Fingers crossed it resolves, I will have 4 days to make a decision

I'm with Dizzy- If you're ready to TTC, then why wait until the vary last minute basically? I know our case is different, but I also know of a lot of other people who needed longer to conceive, definitely longer than 3 months. While that would be awesome, I wouldn't plan on it, personally.

At the very least, I'd start taking prenatal and charting, so you get to know your cycle.

This is how I feel as well.

We were initially going to wait until I was 30 to try, but decided to go for it early just in case. Like I said, we've been NTNP for 5+ years (since we've been married) and infertility issues were always in the back of my mind.

The only preparation I did was prenatal vitamins and charting.

So Falon adores the dog tennis balls. She's figuring out how to throw (only tennis balls are encouraged) and every time she throws one and Mu or Tipper brings it back she shrieks with joy. So. Adorable.

6.1.2014-5026

We also played a fun game yesterday where she washed the tennis ball, dropped it out of the wading pool, climbed out and picked it up, climbed back in, and repeated the whole process.
