We've had a million 'breeds you want' threads, which to be fair I love, but I thought this might be an interesting twist on it.

Do you have a breed(s) that you would get except for one deal breaker? Do you feel like that's going to be a permanent deal breaker?

Siberian, except personality and coarse coat.
Aussie, except no-tail.
I think thats it. not really tempted by very many breeds anymore

Danes- except they don't live huge long lives and that would just tear my poor heart in two.

Most breeds I like but they have an issue or two but I think I'd still have. Breeds I don't want, I wouldn't have for various reasons.

Perfect dog is elusive.

I have been coming around to the lack of aussie tails. I will admit that's been a big turnoff for me.

You can find more and more Aussies with tails, especially if you are open to importing.

Personally, no tails are one of the things I like best about Aussies.

I am conflicted about tails. I hate tails that sweep things off the table or beat bruises on your legs. But I also like the look of tails better. I do like the less coated aussies without tails better. Something about the big poofy pants with no tail just looks strange to me.

Papillon tails are the best because they have a tail and it stretches out prettily behind them when they run but normally it's curled up out of the way. lol

To answer my own thread:

Generic pit/APBT because I just can't take the risk of dog aggression. Not something I ever want to deal with and I want to stack the cards in my favor. But my god do I want one.

Aussie. Barkbarkbark.
This is what I came to post, too. I am so enamored with Aussies but the barking is slowly turning into a deal-breaker. Riff doesn't have a *lot* of Aussie traits, but when it gets the least bit excited, it's BARKBARKBARKBARKBARK and his bark is loud and sharp and awful!

I've wanted a flatcoat for a long time, but the short lifespan and high rate of cancer is a deal breaker. Unless the health of the breed improves significantly, I think it will be a permanent deal breaker.

St. Bernard, except their size is intimidating.
Chessie, except their potential protective streak.
Generic pitty thing, except orthopedic problems!

I had to quote this bc there are so many breeds I want, but they have tails...and I have come to loathe tails. This is part of the reason my future crew will be alternating Corgi/Aussie.

I am getting more and more interested in gundogs bc of the lack of a full tail, but I've never lived with one so I'm not sure how I would fit with their personality.

My husband and I have only owned tail-less dogs between us (me - mini schnauzers, him - a brittany and a corgi) and now we have the Welsh. I actually kind of wanted a Welsh with a tail (they're getting much more common) but I'll admit I like a dog with a stubby tail. Nothing gets knocked off of my coffee table!

There are a LOT of breeds I would love to have... but the fur... I HATE long/excess fur. Wash and wear dogs only, here.
Like...
Labs
Goldens
Tollers
Brittanys (may still have to have one someday, fur aside. they're pretty cool dogs)
Standard Poodles
Irish Setters

Just to name a few.
