I must admit I will only ever sighthounds! I have no desire to own anything but! Not so much Ridgebacks, basenjis and wolfhounds but Afghans, Saluki, Sloughi, Azawahk, greyhound. Those are pretty much the perfect dogs for me, no need to search for anything else! :)

Frankly, I only see myself with a herding or sporting dog. I might have something else down the road for some odd reason or another, but I don't see myself ever seeking it out...
Okay, except for a pap. But that's it.

You know, it's amazing how many people here are anti-scenthound. Uncle Fred would "Aroooooooo!!" at the whole lot of you, but I'm not going to tell him, because i don't want him developing a complex.

As for smell, his feet smell kind of like corn chips, and his bed has an inoofensive Uncle Fred smell, but he is not particularly stinky. Mini would probabloy smell better if she would stay put of every disgusting thing she finds.

Incidentally, Uncle Fred, who loves cats, washes all of his white parts as if he was one. He hates rain and mud, and works hard to keep his stockings and chest looking snowy. i don't know if this is normal for his breed. Probably not, because they are supposed to chase game in all weather, a practice he thinks sounds inhumane.

The breeds i would stay away from are all of the breeds that have been bred for "type" to the point that they are structurally unsound or are no longer suitable for the job for which they were intended.

:rofl1: DrMom...you should write a book. That was a most splendid report on Uncle Fred and Mini. "Aroooooo!" :hail:

My answer would be completely different than it would have been over the past years. Right now, I wouldn't have a dog from most all the groups except for a Poodle or a Chihuahua...or a Lagotto Romagnolo. Definitely not nordic or hound types. (Don't tell Uncle Fred. It's nothing personal, trust me. I adore so much about some of them, like the Beagle I fostered...just don't go for the independence and that nose on the ground and nothing but. lol.) I could almost change my mind after visiting with Romy's Borzois as far as sight hounds. But these days, I think smallish sized dogs that are really trainable, really have the inclination to focus strongly on their owner and not too overly energetic....companion type. I adore, admire, and am intrigued by lots of breeds from several groups but I feel like I'm winding down and want to keep things simple. Maybe I won't get another dog at all after these guys pass on. Who knows?

I didn't even read this thread to spare myself people who are biased about terriers, particularly bullies. And I understand they certainly aren't for everyone, I fell in love with my baby before I had any clear idea what breed she was. But it worked out fine for me.

The only dog I find kinda weird looking is the Mexican Hairless, but just weird in a Dr Suess kind of way. If someone gave me one I would love it just like the rest of the menagerie. There really isn't any breed of dog or cat I dislike...even some of the loud mean ones can come around sometimes.
