Are there any breed groups that you literally wouldn't own ONE dog breed in their group? Or maybe make one exception? Or is there a breed group where you'd literally own EVERY breed within that group if humanely possible?

Don't get me wrong, I honestly love and admire ALL dogs... but there's a few breeds I'd prefer to not come home with me.

http://www.akc.org/breeds/

Hound - is OUT for me. I have no desire to own ANY hound or dog in the hound group.

Sporting - I couldn't really see myself with any of these dogs either except *possibly* a Golden again one day (Golden was "my" first childhood dog) and I'm intrigued by the Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers as well. But these are definite maybes and down the roads.

Working - Only ones I have a weird desire to own are the Dogue de Bordeaux or the English Mastiff. But this will most likely end up being long away but it's a definite want. Only thing that would hold me back - I'd want to own my own home first, be more stable financially, etc, as I know these breeds CAN be "heartbreakers".

Terrier - Border Terrier... I can DEFINITELY see myself with a BT one day. I really love everything I've read and seen. Also, I still have Westies in the back of my mind, I really do love them. MAYBE a Cairn.

Toy - No real desire to own a purebred Yorkie... if I got another Yorkie, it'd be of the "BYB" type and it'd be thru rescue. I could see myself with a Chihuahua one day too, as well as a Papillon. I'm pretty sure I WILL have a Silky Terrier within the next two years though.

Non-Sporting - Again, no real desire to ever own any of these breeds.

Herding - I'm not really sure if I'd like living with a herding dog as I haven't spent enough time around them ... except a GSD. I'm pretty certain I'll have a good GSD again one day. Every time I see one I just drool. I do have a BC obsession, too, but honestly just haven't been around enough to know if they're "for me".

Misc. - these Portuguese Podengo Pequeno are intriguing me. that's about it.

At this point I'm really only interested in quite a few herding breeds, some sporting breeds, papillons, and maybe a small sighthound one day down the road... maybe. I have no interest in a toy dog that is not a papillon to be honest. Love the herders in general, especially the collie family. Really like some of the smaller sporting dogs lately but tend to prefer herding breeds of the same size/energy range. Sighthound I like but am unsure if I'd be the right owner for one.

Terriers and I don't mix nor do scenthounds and I. And nordic breeds are a definite no go. Mastiffs drool too much and are too big/not a good fit for what I want to do but I do really like some of them.

Hounds and terriers.

For some reason, there is just something at the root of the breeds in those two groups that just don't seem to mesh well with me.
Although I'm sure there are some diluted forms of those breeds that would suit me just fine.. but really, hounds as they should be and terriers as they should be would make me want to pull my hair out.

There is just something there that BUGS ME when around them for prolonged periods of time.

Might be the stubborn thing, the terrier tenacity, might be the independent streaks, the volume.. I don't know really but it all just doesn't seem well suited to me.
Looking at that description above it might be because the things I don't like about myself are found in those breeds lol

Generally, I found my handful of breeds that I like and tend to not stray very far anyway lol

I tend to get along with with herding, toy, sporting and working

yet even in those two groups, there are a few breeds I like. Westies, scotties, beagles, bloodhounds
and temperament really does change with lines

So again, don't know if I could count anyone out lol

I am not generally a herding or terrier person. Sporting, working, or hound, yes. Nonsporting, toy, maybe someday.

I totally get this! Something about hounds is like this with me. I just... don't mesh with them. And it's not their fault. Most I meet are sweet as can be, but I just get... like annoyed with them, for almost no reason and I can't explain it! LOL

Terriers are that group for me although the bully terriers aren't so bad for me. None are really my kind of dog. Can't pinpoint it either exactly as I like drive and spunk. I think it's just the scrappiness and tenacity that drives me insane. I don't want a scrappy dog and most terriers I know, even the nicer ones are scrappy. And the barking...

I just feel like we're on totally different channels.

There is no group that is completely out. I can think of at least one breed in each group that I'd like to have some day. I have to say toy is the one with the least number of breeds, but even then I'd like to have a papillon or chihuahua a couple other breeds some day.

I can't think of a scenthound I'd like to own. I like being around them at work, but I couldn't have one myself.

Otherwise there's at least one of basically every other group I would own or at least consider.

^ That. In every group there are at least a couple of breeds I like.
BUUUT. . .:p I'm not really into the sporting group, except for Tollers. My favorites by far are working and herding.

I love the herding group. Love, love, love. Will probably only own dogs from the herding group from now on.

I don't really 'click' with dogs from the toy and non-sporting group. Doesn't mean I dislike them, I just don't think they'd be very suitable for my lifestyle. Kinda the same with scent hounds, though one of my friends has the best beagle anywhere. :) Like them a lot, just not for me!

I'm amused by how many people picked hounds and terriers - my two favourite groups!

I can pick a breed from each group that I'd like... But non-sporting and herding have the least amount of likable dogs for me.

I can't see myself with any breed from the toy group - I will happily fuss over someone else's toy breed but they are very low on my list of breeds I'd like to own.

There are dogs in every AKC group that I'd consider, though some less than others.

Sporting- I don't like retrievers at all, but I could see myself with the right field-bred spaniel (probably Brittany). Or possibly even a field-bred setter (the ones that look nothing like the bench bred ones and actually have functional brains).

Hounds- No desire to ever own a scenthound, but sighthounds? Yes, please.

Working- None of the giant breeds, but Dobes, German Pinschers, and Rotties appeal. German Pinschers the most, probably.

Terriers- Primarily the bull-and-terriers for me. Jacks and Patterdales outside of the AKC.

Toy- I harbor a secret delight in Cresties. I get such a kick out of them. I would own one. Also, Min Pins.

Nonsporting- POODLE HECK YEAH. Also, Bostons and Xolos. I'm going to own a Frenchie when I'm an old lady.

Herding - Yes.

I don't think I could rule out any group, but I also probably wouldn't *seek out* dogs outside the herding and gundog types (type being not limited to akc breed group divisions). I just like those groups way too much and they seem to generally fit me well.

That's not to say outside individuals wouldn't be considered, but it would likely be happenschance, not the result of a deliberate and concerted effort by me.

There are some groups I would never seek out an individual from. I might find a mix in rescue that includes them, but not something I'd look for in a purebred form or intentionally.

Sporting: Not a dog there I'd get along well with. While I like a lot about tollers, the noises they make turns me off! I don't do well with retrievers or spaniels. I like Viszlas a lot, but not something I'd want to own.

Hound: I could definitely see myself with a sighthound at some point. While I don't think I'd want to own one, I actually adore scent hounds. Some of the coonhounds in particular I think are gorgeous dogs.

Working: Not a one appeals to me as a dog to own. A few breeds I really like, but I wouldn't want to live with.

Terrier: I love the staffys :D I could definitely own one. There are a few other smaller terriers I really like.

Toy: It isn't right for me now, but at some point I can imagine owning a Cavalier, a Crested, a Pap, or (because they are so cute they make my heart hurt) a toy Fox Terrier.

Non-Sporting: Nope. I used to really want a Lundehund, but the health issues turn me off. None of the other breeds are anything I personally would want (as long as I can play with everyone else's Frenchies!)

Herding: Several I could or would want to own.

As much as I like and admire a lot of breeds, there are really only a small handful I would ever see myself seeking out. There are very few breeds that just set my teeth on edge as a whole - just a ton I wouldn't personally own.
