I want him caught alive, too - the country needs an explanation. I really hope the "suicide vest" isn't a reality, but it would be "better" than a clean, quick gunshot death from someone else if it came to that. If that makes me a bad person, oh well....

I really feel for the uncle that was interviewed - very well spoken given the media frenzy, and obviously upset.

I don't want him dead either. They've already killed one, and it's going to be hard to determine what actually went on there if the 19 yo dies as well.

From the article:

"All of those people that were wondering what they could do to help, they suddenly had a resource," said Desiree Vargas Wrigley, chief executive officer and co-founder of GiveForward. "Most of these campaigns have exploded because of social media."
My roommate works at GiveForward and I've met the woman quoted. They're a really great company. My roomie told me they had a record breaking day after the bombing. :( I'm glad people are helping but so sad that it's necessary.

I don't think we are goin to get answers either way, dead or alive. :(
I agree... I mean, as much as I want them to catch him alive because I feel like there are so many questions... what answer to "why?" is going to help? There is no why. There just isn't.
I would mostly like to know if the answer to why is just "because we're bat*@(# crazy" or "there's more of us."

I also agree that getting this guy alive is... not likely. I don't think he has any intention of "coming quietly" as it were.

I feel terrible for their uncle, he seemed so sad, and like he couldn't believe it and yet he knew it was true all at once. =<

I haven't seen the news on his family yet, was anyone but his dad and uncle interviewed? What did dad say? I read second hand that he threatened hell breaking out if the kid dies?

What a mind****. I work early and go to bed early-ish so I had no idea any of this was going on until late this morning. I cannot imagine living in that area right now. I would be blind terrified.

Yes, the dad said the secret service set the kids up and it did sure sound threatening.

That's a hell of a set up if they made the kids rob a 7-11, hijack a car, throw grenades and explosives out of the car at pursuing officers, get out of the car wearing an explosive vest, and engage in an apparent shootout with the police.

ETA: Found an article about the aunt:

Well who in the world wants to believe their kids are capable of such a thing? Easier to side with the conspiracy theorists, I guess.

Yeah I heard the interview with the aunt this morning in the car. I didn't catch all of it, but to me she sounded more like "I cannot believe they would do this...I will need to see proof before I can believe this to be true" which I can completely understand tbh. But like I said I didn't catch quite all of the interview so it's possible I missed something.

That said I'm very intentionally not watching the news/chase. Too much pack/prey mentality in the news crews for me. I know it's natural in this sort of situation but I just want the guy apprehended and this whole thing done. Quietly and quickly, if possible. I'll learn what there is to know after...no desire for the play-by-play.

So disgusted and afraid. This doesn't really even feel as if its real life, more like a bad action movie.

A hole in the bottom of the sea.
I do hope they catch him alive. Even if they don't get a "why" they may get a "who helped you" answer. There is apparently suspicion that they had paramilitary training, and a concern about American citizens being recruited by Islamic extremist groups.

I do understand some of the family insisting they are innocent. Who would want to believe that their children or nephews could do such an awful thing? Honestly, I would probably be disbelieving at first too.

Part of me wonders if he's not getting help eluding the authorities--it's been an exhaustive man hunt going on all day and he's pretty much the most wanted man in America right now, it surprises me that he hasn't been caught yet.

Exactly...that and all the conspiracy theorist HERE in the US that are continuing to spin it, as a parent or close relative it would be hard. Heck, even his friends, coaches, etc are shocked and in disbelief. From all accountsts the younger one never seemed to show this side of himself to people.

police scanners say he's in a boat (I think in someone's yard, not on the water), they're getting all non-essential officers out of the way.
