Of course I value my life. I value ALL life. I don't even kill mosquitoes. Seriously (and that can be annoying). Perhaps I'm supersensitive, don't know. That's just the way I am.

And yes, the law can be really screwed up and just plain stupid. I agree with you 100% there. My oldest brother is a lawyer and spends his life putting paedophiles in prison. Nice job. He is the first to admit the flaws in the justice system. But the law is there to protect everyone, and tries to be equal. It falls down sometimes, but I'd rather have that than nothing at all.

But, again, I have to justify my position by saying that I don't live in the States, life in Perth is just not that dangerous, so really, this is all conjecture because I know 99% that I will never be in a situation where I live, where someone will pull a gun on me. Perhaps if I did live in a place where that was likely to happen, I might have a different attitude but I can't say.

My parents' house was broken into the other night while they were home, and their wallets stolen. Luckily Mum didn't go investigate the noise she heard or she might have been smacked over the head or worse. That scares me, but it doesn't scare me enough to even consider having a gun or taking a life. Again, though, that's just a completely alien concept to most Australians who aren't in gangs lol!

You are lucky that your neighborhood is safe but where I live if someone breaks into your house they more and likely have a gun and will do ANYTHING for money and valuables. You have to assume the worst in dangerous situations and I have learned that in a situation like that you must be faster, smarter and more determined than the intruder, I have no time to determine whether they are going to harm me or not.

I did know for a fact that there wasn't anyone else in the house, I didn't shoot because the circumstances didn't call for it. Why would I shoot some one who crumpled to the floor in fear? Before anyone says it, yes I would've shot had he kept coming at me. Just because a fire arm is in your hand, doesn't mean you have to use it. The training I have received has taught me how to look before I shoot...you know the whole use of force thing.

Well, where I'm from people rarely fear guns. If I was to just point the gun at someone they would just grab it from me with no hesitation. In my neighborhood it's more like who can shoot who faster.

Had he attempted to grab it from me it would've been different...all I'm saying is that I'm not afraid to use my weapon. I'm not afraid to pull the trigger.Even though I pull out my weapon doesn't mean that I have to use it. I pull it out knowing there is a possibilty I have to shoot, but there is also that possibility that I don't have to shoot.

I wouldn't just shoot, but once I pull the weapon and the intruder takes one more step its over. I wouldn't shoot to kill either unless he/she had a gun. I would just paralize them until the police got there.
