Pretty much what the title says, and anything you want to add (rules, why you choose what you choose, etc.) as well.

And go!

Yes :) they pretty much have free run of the furniture. Belle has laid claim to our big arm chair. It's gotten to the point that when we have company, someone has to sit in that chair and she sits and glares at them and paws at them like "You know... you're in my spot" lol

I voted "it's complicated".

Both dogs sleep on the bed, and there are two chairs in the living room covered with chair covers that are fair game (well, Meg has completely claimed one, so Gusto won't even look at it - the other is fair game for either).

Both are allowed on the couch only when it has a blanket on it, which is when I'm laying there watching TV. They aren't allowed up until invited, and although I'll leave them there if I get up to pee or something, when I'm done, the blanket goes away and so does couch access.

Gusto sort of has his own chair, although he earned it on a technicality. He jumped up onto the seat at one point when he was still learning the rules, and when I told him "eh-eh, no", he offered this as a compromise:

I was too busy laughing at him to clarify. Plus Meg has also laid claim to every single dog bed in the den, so he has nowhere else he is allowed to sleep. So he sleeps very regularly on the back of my big reading chair, and has probably damaged the cushion beyond repair. But he is so cute.

Yep.
Rules are:
- Get off when I say so
- No grumbling/growling when sat near, moved, or another dog approaches
- No sleeping on the bed when there are 2 people in the bed (unless invited)

If I ever get nice furniture it might be a different story.

Yes. They no longer sleep with me, due to the loft bed, but they are allowed on all furniture. I have never had growling/possessiveness issues, so there are no restrictions

I said "no", but it's more complicated than that. LOL

They aren't allowed to get on any furniture unless they are invited. If we're sitting on the couch and want to snuggle with them, they're more than welcome to come up and cuddle. But, if we don't invite them up or if we aren't on the furniture, they better not get up on it. And even when invited, they need to get off and stay off when told.

The exception to this is when Cynder jumps up onto the sofa to get away from Abrams. She doesn't get scolded for that.

How do people stay warm in the winter if dogs aren't allowed on the couch and bed?
Now that Gusto sleeps under the covers 100% of the time, I may never turn my heat on. Even with some nights dropping in to the 30s, I'm still sleeping with the ceiling fan on and a window cracked, and I still wake up sweating half the time. I'm freezing when I'm not in bed, but I hate being hot at night, so I haven't turned the heat on upstairs at all!

Pip runs hot and it is like sleeping with a white hot sun snuggled up against your back or on your feet. I'll deal with some hairs and dirt for that. :D

I answered "Different for Different Dogs" but it's more like, "It's Complicated".

Zander isn't allowed on human furniture - period. He is too big and sheds entirely way too much for that. But, he is allowed on some furniture deemed not suitable for human use. Broken futons, crap chairs, etc. 9 times out of 10, he prefers the floor anyway.

Quinn is allowed anywhere she pleases 90% of the time. Tables, chairs, couches, beds, counters, etc. She might be spoiled. Her rules are:

1) Not at dinner time
2) Not at bedtime (because she is still young)
3) No yucky chews on the furniture
4) No wallering when a human is near you.

I have discovered (is this gross? it may be gross) that if I turn my remote control over and brush the sheets with it, it is the BEST hair/dirt removal device ever. I do Gusto's spot every night before I get into bed (he always gets in after me, because someone has to hold the blankets up so he can go under them). I admit I wash the sheets at least once, if not twice a week now that he sleeps on them, but that keeps me from being completely skeeved out when I look at the bed!

Yes they are. My brother's dog when they visit is only allowed if invited because that is my brother's rule for him plus he's a huge dog and our couches aren't that big lol.

Basically this! There are rules but mostly, he's allowed up.

I used to be a firm HECK NO NEVER but honestly, I spend so much time in bed (watching tv, reading, working) that it's a good hunk of bonding time I'd be missing out on if he wasn't allowed on it

and when he wasn't allowed on the couch I always ended up sitting on the floor in front of it LOL so I was like screw it

Yep. Couch, chair, bed. But they have to move over or get off when asked.

Even though the bed is a bit small for 2 people and two dogs. Thankfully if we leave the guest room open at night, Jack prefers to sleep there.

We have a large dining room table with bench seats and they aren't allowed on that. Ken and Crossbone try to break the rule routinely, so Crossbone has a chair he sits on near the table while we eat.

No-no-no-no. Too much dog, too much shed, too small stuff.

They have a chair strictly for them and it's an awful mess despite having a washable cover. I can't imagine having ALL my furniture smell that way. Gotta figure, these guys stroll around in pee/poo grass, bomb around in the muddy forests, grimey rivers, play with their slobbery friends at daycare and who knows what else. Maybe if I washed them all on a weekly basis, but that's not gonna happen, so no. Get away from my couch.

Yes! Chomper's in bed with me right now, even. I think it'd be hard to keep them off....honestly. They love being on the couch or in bed with you too much. :p
