So true, Grace. And just because I listen to Amy Winehouse doesn't mean I'm going to start shooting heroin and smoking crack because she uses drugs.

I think it's awesome that a person with a completely different style and look - whether she is messed up, on drugs, or drunk, or not at all - can still become such an acclaimed artist. For her music, not for looking "perfect".

Pop stars like Britney Spears (ehh, not anymore, I guess), Christina Aguilera, Beyonce, Mandy Moore, etc, etc, are made to look absolutely perfect... at least in the general public's eyes. But, hopefully, people are getting sick of "perfect", cheesey, unrealistic pop tarts. Admittedly, Amy Winehouse looked MUCH better a few years ago, when she didn't have the drug/whatever problems she has now. But she still looked completely different than your average celebrity, and she still had a lot of talent and uniqueness.

Yes, it isn't ideal that she is doing drugs. But, guess how many celebrities do drugs? A lot. The odds are, your favorite celebrity has done drugs or is currently doing them. It is an almost inevitable part of being famous. At least she IS trying to help herself, at this point. And why is it our business that she is doing whatever she's doing, anyway? Doesn't her ground-breaking music count for anything? IMO, as long as she still rocks it out, I don't care about her personal life.

The list of creative geniuses that suffered from mental disorders and or abused substances stretches back into history and includes some of the very best. You really don't have to idolize someone to admire their work. It's like people blaming Columbine on the music those kids listened to, it was ridiculous

Sure if you consider it ground breaking. I've heard plenty of people sing about being a drug user, being in love, or hating themselves....hardly ground breaking.

It's not a big deal to me, at least she's honest...the pics of her doing coke on stage are nothing if not honest.

I think she needs help for her man issue before the drugs...one's likely to cause her death before the other.

But have you heard it in the way that she sings it? In her style? I haven't. I am not particularly a fan of Amy Winehouse, but I've heard a lot of music, and I haven't heard anyone quite like her. She has a powerful voice (even if you don't find it appealing), and a lot of musical talent, which is evident in her first CD, too.

I am getting sick of people bashing her, and saying she doesn't deserve to be winning awards, just because of her personal issues. That doesn't mean she hasn't worked just as hard, if not harder, than other award-winning musicians. Everyone struggles at some point in their lives, especially when they hit their "quarterlife crisis" and especially when they are famous. I know people would have plenty of crap to talk about me if I was famous, and my every moment was recorded by paparazzi.

yes I've heard her sing...I thought it was Macy Gray as I stated. She also bites hard off the front woman for 4 Non Blondes as well.

The only people I feel for are her parents. As one myself...I have a whole different perspective on watching one's baby go down such a sad road and being powerless to stop it. Parent's nightmare...money and fame can do a lot for you...but they can't make you smart...and they can't make you grow up til you're ready. As a parent I imagine that is torturous to watch.

ALL great musicians of the past took drugs.... they don't call it "mind expanding" for nothing ;)

BUT - it's whatever floats your boat - I am sure there are singers in your music collection I don't like.

I mean... will someone explain the appeal of NEMO (sorry... nero? God, I always call him nemo to tease the kids and now I forget his real name) and ACORN (acon?).....

Swings and roundabouts.
