I "average" at about 5 years. :p My ex boyfriends are both 4 and 5 years older than I. And the oldest I have dated was 6 years older than me. I tend not to date people my own age. Not sure why.
My SO is 4.5 years older than me, which is perfectly ok. :) Someone did assume we were married the other day though, which kinda creeped us both out. :lol-sign:

I think age is not so much a thing if the interests and companionship part work.
Definitely. I'm 20, casually seeing someone who is 29 - we click way better than I ever have with someone my age. Personalities, sense of humor, etc... it just works.

Actually, I've never dated someone my age. 3 years older than me is the smallest gap I've ever had. That's pretty much true of my circle of friends, too. I have more friends who are 39+ than friends my age or younger.

Lol Amber my rule is generally equidistance between my parents and me. If they're closer in age to my parents then they are to me, that might be a little weird, but honestly if I really liked the person I would probably date them anyway.

I had a summer fling with someone about 25 years older than me. I was 22 and he was in his mid to end 40's. He was just so hottttttt. We did click well since we shared a lot of the same interests, but I am not sure a relationship would and could have lasted.

I dated a guy that was 9 years older then me once. As a relationship it didnt really work out. He was at a different stage in his life, and wanted different things then I did. As a FWB "relationship" it was Fantastic! :D

10 yrs....(me, 25...him, 35). There were some issues that arose from age differences, but well, we had so many friggin other issues that those were def not what ended the relationship, haha.

On a side note, I was dating a guy that was 30 that was just going on & on about how old he felt, and how he felt like it was too late to do all these things in his life, blah blah. Biggest turn off ever. You are friggin 30, not 80.

But I really wouldn't consider too much more than 10 yrs...mainly cause I want to have kids & don't want them growing up with a super old dad

I think 9 or 10 years older than me (and I was 18 at the time). Matt is 4 years older than me. All my relationships with people the same age as me ended Not Good. Those were in the 18-22 range though, I imagine it would be different now.

I really think it depends on when the age gap happens. Like, if you have a 17-year-old and a 22-year-old, there may only be a age gap of 5 years, but one will still be in highschool and the other almost finished or finished with college. Completly different stages in life.

If you have a 25-year-old and a 30-year-old, though, you still have a gap of 5 years, but both are probably at similar points in their life.

Was gonna say the same thing. A 14 year old with a 24 year old is completely different than a 34 year old with a 44 year old.

As for me, biggest age difference dating wise is 3 years, but I think I could probably go 10+ either direction if I was in the market.

The oldest person I've been with was 8 years older. And dated someone 6 years older. But I was only 17-18 then and the age gap was noticeable and we were in different life stages.

R is only 6 months and 4 days older than me. Sometimes I really like it because we are going through the same things together (graduating college, starting new jobs at the bottom of the food chain, first apartments, etc) but on the other hand sometimes as I feel as if our "team" is lacking. We both don't have that much life experience and there are times that I wish he could be the big strong man that knows what to do, if that makes sense. I have a job where I have to be professional and I feel like I'm growing up faster than him and I wonder if he'll ever get on board. So it would be nice to be with someone a little older, more settled in life and more sure of himself. I'm trying to tell myself that R will get there someday, and I should be patient, but it's hard. /rant over.

I don't have a whole lot of experience with age differences, but I'd be open to going around 10 years older, but not more than a year younger. I'm 18, just finished high school, starting college, I have a job, etc - I couldn't date someone who was still in high school, or in the "live off my parents and party and be irresponsible" stage.

I may not belong in this thread, since I have no actual dating experience, however I have a bit of a thing for older men.

I could see myself dating someone even around 20yrs my senior (I'm almost 20) I find that most men I'm attracted to are over 30. Younger guys can't even compare. I think the only turn off is that they are much more likely to have children.. and ugh.

I've gone almost exactly a year older, and currently about four months younger. When I was 21 I almost got involved with a guy either two or three years younger than me. (I'll admit I don't remember his age.) Luckily I realized it would have been a terrible mistake and would ruin a good friendship, unfortunately he hated me for it and we never talked again. I could date older, but I would never be able to tolerate someone younger. I'm easily annoyed by minor immaturities. My friends have insisted I need to date at least five years older. I haven't made plans to kill Adam yet, so maybe I've finally found someone my age I can tolerate. :p
