My current boyfriend is two years old than me (I'm 20, he's 22). Not a problem at all in my book.

I have gone out on dates (not a relationship, just dates) with someone my age and someone who was....four years my senior, I think? I was 16 and he was 20, I think.

I think I would feel comfortable dating someone five or so years my senior. I don't think I could tolerate younger, nor much older than five years my senior. Would all depend on the guy, I suppose.

i met TJ and "hooked" up with him when I was 17 years old... almost 18... he was 27. I remember back then I thought it was a huge difference in age and was afraid to tell my parents how old he was. But, now... i don't even think about it.

Those of you who have/had bigger (10+ year) age gaps, do you find it odd that you can't really talk about a lot of things like popular childhood tv shows, musicians, past current events, etc?

Jeremy and I have a little bit of that happen but I enjoy making him feel old with it and pick on him saying I was either not born yet or way to young for it. Its a bit weirder with him having Connor though because Connor was born when I was 14 and he was 20/21.

We still talk about it. . . I've gotten introduced to a lot of stuff that's older than I am (music, tv, movies, etc) that I would not have seen otherwise. Interests are similar, there's just an age gap.

actually we laugh about it. He says something that has a reference to something popular in his childhood, and I look at him like he has three heads. LOL

We have alot of other stuff in common. We also both enjoy learning about things, so stuff from his child hood I find interesting and vice versa. Although his nephew is only like a year younger than me. When we look at things like that it can be weird sometimes.

I always thought it would be weird, but when we met we just had a chemistry and we were friends first. So far it just doesnt seem to matter.

I'm 29 and my boyfriend is 25. That's the biggest age gap I've ever had (most of the guys I've dated have been 1-2 years older, and then there was one that was 2 years younger). I do feel kind of old when I reference childhood memories that he's never heard of.

I'm bumping this again.

Again, those of you who dated someone with a bigger (10+ years) age gap, how did you deal with family/friends/etc. I could care less what people in public say, but a couple of my friends (who may just be teasing me, but who are also pretty judgmental so they could be totally serious) telling me it's creepy, what's wrong with this guy that he wants to go out with me, etc.

No SO for me or anything but my parents are 10 years a part (my Dad being older) so I've never really felt age to be too big of deal. I think it depends when they're dating to be honest. A 10 years old and a 20 year old dating is messed but a 20 yr old and a 30 yr old doesn't sound nearly as bad. ;)

That's not reassuring :p

Most of my friends are surprisingly cool with it. My responses have ranged from "that's ok..." to "does it bother YOU? Then who cares?" to "good for you". And then I get the patronizing "you're so naive, you don't know what you're doing, you only like him for the novelty, he's taking advantage of you" BS from one or two of them.

I am 13 years older than my husband. I usually go for men older or the same age as myself.

We started dating in 1995 and were married in 1998. So far, we are still hanging in there.

1 year or 2-3 years older and maybe a year younger lol

I enjoy being in the same time of my life (both in high school, college etc..) having the same generational things in common, aging around the same time (I don't want to "grow old" with someone who is going to be senile when I'm 40 lol)

I'm pretty immature as it is lol I watch cartoons and all.. I wouldn't want to go out with someone who has more in common with my parents than me lol

Milo, I'm not going to be super helpful there as only a few of my friends even know. My family CERTAINLY does not. It's an odd situation.

I'd just suggest you neglect to mention his age unless they ask, and blow it off as though it's not an issue (which I hope it is not), but that's just my style of dealing with unwanted comments from people.

Is this your boss, btw? ;)

I get the same crap from my friends too. Even though I'm sure I'll never date my older 'crush' (he's 41 and married.. sigh.) Most of my friends are like "that's so creepy, if you ever dated someone that old (making it sound like he's 60) they would only want you for sex, blah blah." And yeah, "what wrong with an older man if they have to go for a 19yr old, can't they get someone their age?"

But all I'm hearing is "stop liking what I don't like!!" In which case I ignore. :) My family, however, is totally "go for it". Which is hilarious but not happening since I'm not a homewrecker. Does this mean that you and the older gentleman are dating? Or is this theoretical like mine?

BAHAHAHA no! (I wish ;) ).

As far as my family....I sort of tipsily texted my mom that he was cute the night I met him. The next day she asked if he was single, and I said "yeah, but he's in his 30s". She just said "oh", but following that she's been asking me if I've seen him, telling me to invite him places, etc. So I honestly don't know how she would react....but I also think she thinks he's closer to 30 than 40.

I almost always date younger guys. It's kind of odd, I guess. The biggest age gap so far was 2 years younger than me. That was during high school. It was kind of weird to be driving him all around because I was a senior and he was a sophomore.

Aww darn, that was so what I was thinking. . .

In any case, go on the dates, have a little fun. In the end, if it makes you happy, you don't have to listen to a thing anyone else says about it. You deserve to be happy. See where it goes and don't over-think it.
