A question ....... I only have my ear lobes done , but one has grown shut . I don't want to pay to have it done ....If I deaden with ice , do you think I could use a sterilized needle and re-open myself ? Then do I just put in a sterilized stud ??
I don't usually encourage self-piercing, but, I'm hypocritical if I say not to since I have done all of my piercings on my own, and only had to have my navel piercing re-done (navels are notorious for being crooked and I was still growing when I did it myself).
If you re-do it yourself, make sure you sterilize absolutely every single thing you put your hands on, and use Dial (my personal favourite) in a nice thick lather on your hands, and, if you can, gloves that don't have that powdery substance on them. A hollow needle is the only needle that is good for piercing; a regular thick needle will only tear through the tissue, so if you can get ahold of a hollow needle, then you will have no problem doing it yourself. A hollow needle also will hurt a LOT less than a regular needle.
I made the mistake of using a regular needle on my septum piercing, and I'm fighting to keep it stable right now. It's not infected at all, but you can see where the needle ripped through, instead of piercing through the flesh.

As far as dulling with ice, with a hollow needle, you won't need to. :)
The only pain involved with a self-piercing (using a hollow needle) comes from basic fear of pushing through at the right speed with the right pressure. The needling being hollow will take care of some of it, but if you dwell on it too much, you're done for and it can get stuck, and hearing that 'tic' at the end can make your stomach turn.

I would be all with the needle thing if I wasnt scared as I said before. Mehh, Ill probably never get my belly button done anyways.
Girly, go get it done. You honestly do not feel a thing, and if you tell your piercer you're afraid of needles, they will make it so fast that you won't know they finished. A good piercer is one that talks you through it so well that they have to explain to you that it's already done. ;)
It's a little less painful than an immediate bee sting (without the after-sting).

Plenty of cases of Hepatitis C are picked up at piercing salons. Please watch for cleanliness. The Hep C virus is very hardy and can live for two weeks outside the body. It is carried via blood to blood and where better is blood raised and re-raised than at a piercing salon..

I don't know if I have any hypo needles around .....I can see the point.... logical ! My 1st piercing was a 45th birthday present from my girls !! We had a young doctor friend who rode the Hunter Circuit with us ..... I had a martini , she applied ice and did it ! I do know that proper hygiene is VERY important ! Maybe this time I'll apply the martini to my ear !!! LOL!!!

The only fight I have had with my mo ther in law, is that after the birth of all 4 of our daughters, she wanted their ears pierced immediately, and we said no, not until they are 13. Kind of a rite of passage. Good thing she never took off with one of them and did it anyway.

Ive got a bunch of piercings. I've got both my nostrils pierced, i've got a microdermal in my forehead, my lobes stretched to 8g, random ear piercings, with industrial in both sides, I've also got a nape piercing, naval, cleavage, cheeks, annnddd i just recently took out my labret. I also have a few that I will not mention, LOL I am the person they say you don't wish to meet in the dark because of their scary looks. :lol-sign:

All of those cost atleast 75 or more. I go to a piercer who puts her jewerly in the autoclave, uses a new needle, clamp, and gloves every single time, and she is very knowledgeable and a downright nice person. Why do people use guns and go to claires? "cuz its cheap". Then they get infections, keloids, etc. Then they use alcohol to clean it! Sillies. You reap what you sew.

I'm already intregrated into the real world. I work and pay rent just like everyone else. People say its hard, when really it isn't. I can take out all my visbile piercings except for my microdermal. (and really, not my cheeks because they're quite tempermental.) I don't have any intentions of taking any of them out, and I probably never will. So far I've been out of the house for about 3yrs now, and I've had most of these piercings since day 1. Haven't had a problem finding a job, you just need to know where to look.

I have 3 holes in one ear.... 4 in the other. All of those were done with a gun.

I had a navel piercing... it was done with the needle.... I removed it a few years ago. Now I have a God awful scar there. I certainly wouldn't want a scar like that on any visible part of my body.... it's hideous. The piercer was great.... it didn't hurt at all.... it was VERY VERY clean and sanitary..... I had it for many years.... but when I did finally get sick of it and took it out..... I was very disappointed with what was left.

I have a monroe, my labret and my lobes stretched to 2 gauge. I want to go bigger but my husband says it already freaks him out to be able to read stuff through my earlobes lol. I also have my ears just "pierced".

I have 10 gauge x2, 12 gauge x2, and 14 gauge x2 lobes. 16 gauge cartilage. 8 gauge navel, 14 gauge double lip rings, 12 gauge tongue, and 2 10 gauge girly bit piercings trying to keep it non graphic for the kiddies.
I've also done 2 suicide suspensions and one back pull.
Retired nipples 3 times, nape another girly bit piercing and lower back (which I dearly want back)

Having issues finding a non dorky safe face pic...
Doesn't show my lip rings really.. but I lack normal stuff to post. lol.
