I'm much better with horses - I can doodle a horse without a reference and it's definitely a horse, even if it's not a good horse. I cannot draw a dog without a reference. It ends up looking like a goat/horse/cat/dog/pig mix that got hit by a truck...

Your horses are stunning! I think they're just such beautiful animals.

Yay lots of pics I can sketch off of too! :D

She's been lame since she was a late 3 year old. Numerous amazing vets and farriers have absolutely no idea what's wrong with her - we've done so many x-rays, fluoroscopes, etc and it doesn't show anything. She's at our barefoot trimmer's place right now (we were going to put her down last fall but she likes her too much and wanted to work on her weekly to see if she could help) and she is so frustrated that she can't seem to help her. We'll be bringing her home soon as our trimmer has a whack of foals due shortly, and then we'll go from there. If she's really uncomfortable we'll put her down sooner than later, if she's not too bad we'll put her down in the fall.

Not sure if you are interested in trying your hand at sketches including tack and/or riders, but here is a little filly I was breaking a while back.

Thank you! She is an absolute doll and without a doubt my heart horse. She's the one who fixed me after I lost my large pony hunter when I was 14 - my first big loss. It's hard to imagine not having her around.

Haha thanks. I think we're always more critical of our own work . There's a couple parts of it that are annoying the snot out of me right now.

Just checking the new changes.

I need to fix some proportions but there's only so much I can change at this point. I think those changes helped some though.

It's a good picture Laurelin the only faults I see in it is the far legs. The hoof angles aren't quite right and the distance between pastern and hock, fetlocks and knees don't match the other leg. In the front based upon the angle of the horse we should be able to see more leg or more distance between the front two legs unless specific horse you're drawing as a really narrow front end.

Really good job building a balanced model though. Your shading and working of the muscle tone was well done. I really like how you built the body to the neck to create the whole picture. It's a hard bit I've always had trouble with.

thanks for the tips! I really have NO idea about horse structure at all. (What's a pastern and a fetlock lol?) The big areas sticking out to me right now are the bum and back left leg.

I've let the changes sit for a few days. I stare at him every time I walk in the kitchen where he's propped up there. I think I have some ideas on what to do with the problem spots. I just have to find time to work on them. We are definitely arguing some but not in a bad way at all.

Overall I'm fairly happy with it now. I haven't drawn a horse in.... 7 years maybe? Not since I was pretty young. So not too bad for such a long time.

I should add this was supposed to be a 'quick sketch'. lmao I don't think I know what a quick sketch is.

Here's a 90 minute done-while-watching-glee two weeks ago pic. I dont know why I never posted it. I may finish it out, I'm not sure. Right now it's really rough.

So yeah... I got a bajillion things started and need to finish a few of them soon. :p

I think my order will be:

- commission for Mer + commissions for Ada
- mom's portrait
- horse (which haven't touched)
- lion
- Zuko (XD)
- papillon and sheltie?

I think. :p
