Gorgeous! What type of marker do you use?
It's a Micron Brush pen. So much fun! I have only ever found them in the manga/comics pen sets. It works much nicer than the regular microns. I've tried other brands of manga pens but Micron is my favorite (should be for the price!) The manga sets generally have a couple brush and/or wedge pens in them and they give you really nice line thickness variation a lot smoother than trying to do something similar with a regular micron.

This set here:

I'm actually coloring that one with my pastels and some pencils. :) I really like it so far. I'll have to take pics when I get home tomorrow.

Laur you are so talented! I love going through this thread.

Your last papillon one is super cute and I think one of my favorites. IDK what but something about it really reminds me of Quinn - I think it's the look!

Horrible picture but here's some more charcoal work. I'll have to post more of what I've done recentlyish.

Thanks! I used to draw horses all the time but I haven't in years. I've had a lot of people wanting to see what I can do with horse pictures so I'm trying it again. Dogs are much much easier to draw!

That was just a really basic job in a few minutes with vine charcoal (so I can erase it easily). I'll have to spend an hour or two to finish it.

I'm super jealous of your talent Laurelin and I think I might secretly hate you for it. lol. I love all the pictures you've posted and am looking forward to seeing how that horse turns out.

Yeah moving horse is next on the list! ;)

I can sketch out a pretty realistic dog in a few minutes tops of most breeds but horses require a bit more thinking and I need a reference or it looks a bit off imo. I can draw a good dog without a reference. Horses are another story.

I'll have to get a new pic of that horse, he looks better now with some tweaking of the anatomy.

(If anyone has nice horse reference shots they would mind me just sketching I'd appreciate it. I asked my dad to get some pics of the horses and the shots he got aren't that great...)

Thanks again guys! :D I'm really enjoying having this thread and encouragement to get back to drawing again.

The really hard part I found with horses is that if you get their movement 100% on, it doesn't look right because well... horses don't always move IRL like the text books say they should and if your pen says you're going to move like the book says you're suppose to... yep... still looks wrong. Also different breeds, mixes, different body types, gait types and optical illusions can really mess with your eye. That's where your lines becomes a image saver.

I found the best way to draw a particular horse was with a video and then find a frame that appealed to my eye.

I think I've used this video more than any other to work on horse w/ rider artwork. YouTube - Garrocha

I'm sure I could come up with pictures of my girls you could take a stab at any time. What kind of reference shot are you looking for? Something standing around or something moving?

Is there anything you aren't good at Laur! :p Love the horse!

Here's my girls - all QH mares. The bay is a 5 year old, big chestnut with the socks is 8, the wee chestnut with no socks is my 2 year old (still a yearling in these shots). I will be putting my big chestnut mare down soon so even a little rough doodle would be awesome!

A couple more!
