    oakley's ear...opinions?

Could be ear mites! I'd take him back in to the vet now to see what's up. You can also buy ear mite medications online and at many feed stores.

    RIP my little Black Velvet

@3:37 PM. August 10, 2010 Velvet, our wonderful fur-baby of five years, was buried in the back yard. I feel like my heart is breaking in two. We do not know what happened, but when I found her it was already too late. All a vet would be able to do is tell us what happened. We don't even have...

    I'm a little excited.

The meeting was very long but during the tour I got about 60 photos of dogs and cats, just for the heck of it. I'll be walking and socializing the dogs in the adoption section for the most part. I also asked to be part of the photo team because they really need much better images of the...

    These Dogs Good 2gether?

Yes. Scent hounds are bred to follow scents and that's exactly what they'd do. Growing up my dad let our beagles run free though. Our basset too. They eventually came home but I can only imagine all the problems they could have run into. I'd suggest investing in a nice sturdy hogwire fence...

    I'm a little excited.

Earlier this week I emailed several shelters in my area offering to volunteer. I was excited, eager to do something in this field for quite a while. I've been applying as a volunteer for several years. At long last, I have a response! Today is the new Volunteer Orientation and I'll be leaving...

    Thinking about re-naming Revy....

I had a dog that figured out just the right way to bite at the door on his plastic crate so that he could unlatch the top, and then the bottom. So if she really is a "Houdini", she'll figure it out. Alternative? Turn the crate against the wall. XD

For all my fellow chazzers.....For Renee

-hugs- This made me tear up. Be strong and think of good memories. Remember that Legacy you speak of and hopefully it'll be easier. I think that name would be an awesome name, especially because of the meaning behind it.

    Feeding amounts

I think slim/average is just her type. If she's super energetic then she's going to burn off those calories. It may not hurt to add an extra meal for a couple of months, but in the end she'll balance of where she's supposed to be anyhow. Some dogs tend to look lean unless you practically cram...

Is it important to feed 2x a day?

Feeding them twice a day is basically like meals for us. It helps them to feel full throughout the day but I don't think it's an absolute must.

    Submissive Urination

I'm eager to see a picture of her. XD Bad me. I agree with the ignoring. It helps some submissive dogs.

Blazes 10,000KM trip across Canada (LOTS of photos)

Miley looks like a shepherd x chow x something mix to me. Either Belgian Shepherd of some kind, or German shepherd. Love these photos. :D

    Vetsulin (pet insulin)

Not sure if everyone has heard about this yet. Vetsulin is recalling some of their product because they were having issues with the consistency of it. So if you use Vetsulin or know somebody that does let them know about the recall so they can talk to their vet. Not all vets have switched...

    Mosquitos

This site is a home remedy for curing itchy skin on dogs. I think it may be helpful. Mosquitoes are a pain. Try finding a non-toxic bug spray and spraying both of you with it when mosquitoes are at their worst. Remember not to spray the face!

    Diarrhea

I'd go to the vet and get a check for parvo, dear. Even dogs and puppies that have shots can get it. Don't freak out because if they had their shots that's probably not it, but the vet can help pinpoint what's wrong. In the meantime I'd suggest a rice, banana, and pumpkin mix to give high fiber...

    The Food Debate

I didn't realize I posted this as another topic. I meant it to be a reply to the food post... oh well. x_X Thanks for the extra feedback though. I'll keep all of this in mind. It's all what I had already learned/researched myself and it only confirms what I was trying to tell her. Just goes to...

    I think Oakley is part-Canaan!??

They are very rare. I think it's very improbable though not impossible. I would bet on him being a mix that is just so mixed it matches that breed. It does happen.

    Complicated Commands/Tricks

Both of the girls know more tricks than the boys. I have a hard time training our boys but they do know sit, lay down, and are getting better with stay. The girls know a large series of commands. Velvet knows more than Dawn, naturally, but Dawn knows neater tricks. Such as "whisper". I...

    I found a lump...

She's drinking normally again and I can't find that lump. I wonder if it was a bug bite reaction? No idea. I'm still checking just in case I've passed over it.
