I need suggestions. Earlier this week my foster puppy had diarrhea. It's almost back to normal now. But now Tynan has REALLY bad diarrhea. I woke up this morning to the whole kitchen covered.
I know unspiced pumpkin works, but is there anything that might work better and faster?

I'd go to the vet and get a check for parvo, dear. Even dogs and puppies that have shots can get it. Don't freak out because if they had their shots that's probably not it, but the vet can help pinpoint what's wrong.

In the meantime I'd suggest a rice, banana, and pumpkin mix to give high fiber and lots of nutrients to help balance the system.

Did you change foods recently? Is there any way they got into trash or something else?

And, might sound strange, but what kind of diarrhea was it? Clear, gel-like, just typical runny poops? That tells a lot too.

There has been no change of food, and I keep the garbage cans outside.
The day before yesterday he had regular looking diarrhea, but then yesterday there was blood in it so I made an appointment with the vet. The earliest I can get him in is this Saturday.

What colour blood? It could just be from straining to go.

If it gets really bad, you could give him Immodium ( The Use of Loperamide (Imodium, Kaopectate) in Pets ). I've done that before when it's gotten really bad, but I only had to use 1/2 a tablet x one dose. I also combined it with chicken and rice, and some pumpkin in his food. I can't remember if I also gave him Pepto just to help settle his stomach, and the next day he was fine.

**But I'm no vet so please ask your vet or look online. LOL

You can try Pepto-Bismol or Kaopectate about 1 ml per pound every 12 hours. 5 ml = about 1 tsp. These are good for both helping firm up stool and binding any toxins in the gut

Best way to give this large volume is something you can squirt, syringe (without needle) turkey baster or ... Put the end in the cheek pouch between the back teeth and cheek. Put hand under muzzle and hold lips together. Tip head slightly back. Squirt slowly taking pauses to allow the dog to swallow. Do where the floor is easy to clean since it can be a bit messy.

Pepto-Bismol will usually make the stool black.
