Flea/Tick & HW - What do you use?

We use a holistic vet and get black walnut tincture for heartworm prevention, nothing else really for fleas or ticks. I don't think there's much risk for ticks around my area though.

    Oscar

We lost our beloved jrt to a brain tumour in February. After months of grieving for our wonderful boy, we decided it was time... here is Oscar. *I know everybody is pro-rescue... we tried to adopt but were turned down by two rescues and twice by the shelter because we have a toddler. Just...

    carseats/extended rear facing?

I want to rf as long as possible for safety... we just outgrew the infant seat so I bought a True Fit, it rear faces to 35lbs and has really high top harness slots for taller kids. I'm hoping to keep her rf until at least 2-3 years.

    Baby weight question?

They told me my baby would be at least 8lbs - even right up to the moment they pulled her out... all 5lb11 of her. So yeah, I'm not sure ultrasounds are terribly accurate, lol.

Now I Understand the Issues with Hybrid Dog Breeders

I have to agree with the others who say it's a breeder issue, not a mixed breed issue. I am the owner of a wonderful, sweet, $10,000 pure bred jack russell terrier (that's his vet bills so far, and he's only 3). Got him out of the newspaper, didn't know to look at the breeder and now we're...

    Teeth Cleaning Tips

I know they used to do those around here too, but now most of the grocery stores here have done away with their butcher areas and only carry really basic stuff. I think the butcher shop is more likely now, they might have that kind of package instead - I'll have to check!

    Teeth Cleaning Tips

Thanks, Dekka! He actually loooooooves pork and does really well on it, but normally will only touch it when it's cooked. I'll have to pop out to a butcher this weekend and pick him up a few of these, see if I can get him chewing some of the crud off his teeth before the vet has to take care of it.

    Teeth Cleaning Tips

My 2.5 yr old JRT has horrendous teeth too - before we take him for cleaning I'd like to try RMB's... what kind of bones are those though? I'm a bit dense when it comes to this stuff, LOL! If I go to a butcher, is there a specific cut to ask for, like a rib bone or something?

    Blindness/SARD in dogs?

I don't think he's had anything unusually fatty... his normal diet consists of Orijen 6 fish combined with either Solid Gold Just a Wee Bit or Natural Balance Venison. He has, however, a massive history of major digestive problems since birth - I wonder if that's related? I'll certainly have to...

Thank you... I'll definitely check that out!

    Blindness/SARD in dogs?

Hi There, I was wondering if anybody here knows anything about sudden blindness or SARD in dogs? My 2.5 yr old JRT has been having problems this weekend - walking into things, seeming confused when trying to go somewhere, scared to jump on/off things - and the vet today thinks it is SARD...

GREAT!!! news from the vets office

I never post on the forum, but I read it all the time... and I've been reading about Chance and all the problems. I was scared to open this thread but CONGRATULATIONS! I hope it all goes well for you both, and I'm so happy for you that somebody finally found the answer.

    Are jack russel terriers

Mine loves all the people in his life, all our relatives and such... but he's a 2 person dog - my hubby and me. He alternates daily (sometimes hourly!) between which one of us is his 'favourite', but he totally adores and respects both of us equally. If we both call him from separate sides of...

Dog has Irritable Bowel Syndrome & Anxiety

You might want to try Prozyme. My pup has IBD and allergies and we have had the same problem... once we got him stable and figured out what he was sensitive to we managed to find foods he could eat and liked, but he was skinnnnnnnyyyyyyyyy! Prozyme is a powder you sprinkle on the food and it...

Water Fun !!! lots of pics

OMG, those are just great... more, more, more! I don't know anybody else around me with a jack, it's so funny to see pictures of doggies doing the same stuff mine does too (although I kinda wish mine would only dig in the water in the pool - NOT the water in his dish that ends up all over the...

Water Fun !!! lots of pics

Hahaha, too cute! My jrt loves his little paddle pool, too... but he's too scared of the hose so far to try chewing it (although I KNOW it's just a matter of time, LOL).

    Help!

There is a big difference between his barking 'never being rewarded' and completely ignoring him and walking away when he does it. My 9 month old jack started the whole barking-for-attention-or-to-get-what-he-wants-NOW thing about a month ago, and we thought we weren't rewarding it either...
