Yesterday I had my 32 weeks check up and the doctor said that the baby was meassured 5+ lbs, the weight of 35 week-old baby! Since my last appointment 3 weeks ago, I only gained 1 lb, however, the baby gained more than 1 lb! How is that possible?

The baby was developing and right on marks at all other times. Suddently this time, she was 3 weeks off!

Should I be concerned at all?

Don't be concerned at all!

The ultrasounds can be off by a pound either way. They thought my nephew was going to weigh 8 lbs and he was only 6lb 13oz.

I don't think you need to worry...she's big and healthy! And as everyone said, the US can only estimate the weight.

They told me my baby would be at least 8lbs - even right up to the moment they pulled her out... all 5lb11 of her. So yeah, I'm not sure ultrasounds are terribly accurate, lol.

it was only when I was overdue that they did an ultrasound to check her size. The doctor felt around my stomach before sending me for the US and guessed between 8lbs 2 oz to 8lbs 6 oz and she was right in the middle... 8lbs 4 oz

The doctor measured the diameters of the baby's head & stomach, and the ultrasound machine automatically calculated the weight & adjusted the due date. So suddently my due date was moved up to Feb 23rd from Mar 18 as it was predicted three weeks ago! :yikes:

Anyway, I was concerned because at every other checkups, the baby measurements were right on marks. For some reasons she get bigger too quickly during the last three weeks.. while on the reverse, I supposed to gain 3 lbs but only gained one.

Her heartbeats were strong, and all her measurements are proportionate.. The doc did tell me there's nothing to worry about.. like it's possible

Mason was estimated at 8 lb 3 oz. He was 9 lb 14 oz. They can be WAY, WAY off, in EITHER direction.

My friend's doctor was predicting a 9 lb baby. Her baby was 6 lb 1oz.

I know it's hard not to worry. I would like to say it stops once you have the baby....but it never stops...you will be worried for the rest of your child's life. Although you will feel a big relief once you hear her cry and you can at least SEE her breathing and SEE that she is ok. But you will probably spend a LOT of time just watching her breath. I STILL do it with Mason. And I stand by his door and listen to him breath.

However it is measured by where the techs click. They won't all do it exactly the same, and on something so small, a click just a tiny bit off will probably make a big difference. The u/s are really much more for checking out their heart and such than really for measuring purposes. I think they just tell you that more for fun.

It's just amazing how you're body works.

As for you supposing to gain weight as your baby gains, it's more likely due to you not taking in enough kcals for you AND your baby at this time thus your baby uses them instead.

If it makes you feel any better, I've only gained 1.8 lbs with this pregnancy but look like I'm smuggling one ginormous beach ball under my shirt and my baby was also predicted to weigh around 4 - 4 1/2 lbs at the 30 week mark.

That's exactly what I was going to say. If the tech clicks in just slightly the wrong spot, the whole measurement can be way off.

I wouldn't worry. It sounds like your baby is nice and healthy

Nope, they're wrong. Your due date is still march 18, but you're going to be 3 days late so the baby is born on the 21st :D Because everyone knows March 21st babies are the best babies in the world :lol-sign:

Have you guys selected a name yet?

So I am hoping your doc doesn't buy into this automatically adjusted due date. I assume the old due date is also confirmed by dates. You don't want anyone claiming you are overdue and delivering her early on bad dates.
