Add me to the list of people who would love a pit bull except for the risk for DA. I think when I am really old and only have one dog and am not doing sports or anything anymore, that might be my time to get a pit mix.

There are lots of other breeds I would get except they aren't shelties. I just don't really have a huge urge to have anything else right now.

Bouvier Des Flandres except for that massive amount of hair... I adore them from afar though.

I met (one) at an event I was working, the owner runs him in agility I believe. He was really, really sweet, goofy, there was someone running around in a big costume that goosed him and he thought it was the best thing ever.
And I have a hard time pegging down exactly what it is, and maybe "sharp" isn't quite the right term. The few that I have met have been friendly enough, ya know, but I think what I really wanted deep in my soul was a happy ES and as much as I wanted to go the BP route, they just weren't quite hitting all the right spots.

Poodles, but for the hair. Its not even the grooming. I just don't like the way it feels when I touch it. I have the same issue with most doodles, but there are a lot more reasons I don't want one of those
OOo same. I really dislike the feeling of non-shedding coats..the ones that keep growing. Doesn't even matter if it's curly like poodles or straight like maltese..

I'm not sure. I decided against a Mudi because they weren't as crazy as PyrSheps...does that count?

I really like Entlebuchers too but their tendency to have CCLs was a big concern for me.

I also like Greyhoudns but they're too big.

Oh and I didn't get another GSD but they are prone to household SSA.

For everyone wanting a pit but not the d/a, what about a Staffybull? 708% more cute, and with 66% less dog aggression
The scream. No way.

Mal, except for the crazy.
That's their draw. ;)

For me, breeds that I love but:

Poodles, of any size, their coat intimidates me but someday.

Greyhound, I'm not sure they'd fit in our family.

Whippet, too weak of skin and bone with malinois.

GSD, too much hair and vocalization (says the owner of the barker)

American Bulldog, I'm not sure I will find one that matches my sporting desires.

Golden, gah, I love the picture but every time I spend extensive time with them they drive me insane. Believe it or not they are too loving. LOL The insistent smoothing of their heads into my body drives me batty. (It's not you, goldens, it's me)

Koolies, a bit stressful when I think about adding one.

Nah. . .they don't have the same "pull" for me. They're totally cute, but to me a well bred APBT is just too stunning.

Yes, well, looks aren't everything when a dog has a sketchy temperament. I'm not into fear aggressive dogs, and I have issues with them being bred, especially when the sire/dam had their own aggression issues. It seems adding "APBT...except for unstable nervebags" is going to become more and more commonplace.

I've always wanted a Dane but as other people have said, short lifespans.

I had said I would never own an English bulldog because of health issues but that changed. I will have to post my little guys story some time.

A greyhound except I'd prefer a dog that's a bit more active.
Poodles except for the coat and grooming, but this may change.
Tibetan Terrier except for the coat and grooming.

Oh, and Borzoi, but 90% of my dogs' exercise is off-leash. :/ I know that some sighthounds are cool off-leash their whole life. . .but I'm too nervous. >.<

I love staffies. I did not know the scream was a staffy thing though. All the borderstaffies I've met have a god awful scream.

Do they have less of a chance for DA? Because I LOVE me some Staffies. Every single one I've met has been awesome. And the fact that they are small really appeals to me, too. I don't want a dog park dog, but I do want a dog that is fine with household dogs and is polite enough to not want to eat other strange dogs on first introduction.

Depends who you talk to. Some people are going to claim Staffies are MORE d/a and d/r than pit bulls, and others claim they arent d/a or d/r at all, just sassy like a terrier can be. One of the best descriptions came from a gamedog person where she described them as Brooklyn ****-talkers. All noise no substance. She described one of the fights her two males got into where one bit his own tongue and that was the only "injury". Im a huge Staffy fan, i think everyone should have one XD
