"He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose." Jim Elliot, just a short time before he was killed on the mission field along with four mates in Ecuador.

Yes, a twice-born believer in the Lord Jesus for some 65 years now. A young Chinese girl, during the Boxer Rebellion, was facing execution because she was a Christian. She said, "I am dying for a good cause. What are you living for?"

It is in living that we find God, but we don't start living until we do.

Respect is not the problem. The Samaritain had respect for life when he stooped to help his enemy to life, and he was called the "good Samaritain". Goodness is not the answer. We all possess some measure of goodness. It is only in Jesus Christ we find ultimate goodness; it is called eternal life.

Cheers, and God bless,

Jim

(Oh yes, Church of England)

I might add, that I belonged to a different forum which collapsed. I joined here, but never got involved. Just found it again and have it on my favourites now.

Thanks for asking,

I am a Christian. Used to go to a non-denominational Christian church. I seemed more into THEM than HIM. I'd rather sleep in on Sundays (unfortunately). Yet I still hold my faith...

I'm not christian, but hopfully that doesn't change anyones minds on if I'm a good person or not?
BabyB, I will tell you a story about something that happened to me and you can decide if anyone should change their minds about what kind of person you are based on what you believe or don't believe.

I was standing in WalMart, and a very elderly gentleman needed something off of the top shelf. There weren't any employees around (SURPRISE!), so I stretched up and tipped the item off and caught it for him as it teetered on the edge of the shelf. He thanked me and talked to me for a bit - he was a lovely man and you could see the sweetness of his character beaming from his eyes. We chatted a bit about roses and dogs. Before he left, he looked at me and smiled and layed his hand on my arm and said, "you're such a kind person, you must be a good Christian girl." I smiled and told him that no, I was actually a Buddhist. He looked at me a moment in surprise and then chuckled and remarked that he just couldn't wait to see the preacher Sunday after service and tell him how wrong he was . . . that we weren't the evil spawn of Satan, lol! He reckoned we were all children of God; that we just had a different name for Him and heard him in a different way.

well, hello, Bubbatd,

Where in Quebec? I once pastored a church in Lachute......many, many years ago, mind you. My French is so old it stutters.

I am 40 miles NW of Kingston, out in the sticks, with wife and our five dogs.

Cheers,

Jim

LOL Amy.

I don't follow any one organized religion. I think they are all beautiful in their own way. I do agree that everyone needs to believe in something whether it's nothing, scientology, christianity...

I suppose out of all the religions I'd lean towards Buddhism the most but there are a lot of interesting ones. I think that most of them essentially believe in the same thing - a higher power and having values in your life.

Ignore the above posts !! You don't need another old hen and I don't need a rooster !!! I was American born but raised in Thetford Mines...the asbestos mining area. I'm very familiar with LaChute and I too ( after 50 plus years ) can think in french but it doesn't escape my mouth anymore!

Christianity is the only "religion" that believes in a risen Saviour. Jesus not only died on the cross for our sin, but He rose again on the 3rd day to secure our redemption. No other religion claims a living Saviour.

Not to be argumentative. Just to keep the record straight.

Muhaaahaahaahaa... Evil daughter, here. Guess you have a wife (darn it LOL, just kidding). I think I've been thru Kingston. I went to Quebec every summer growing up and we went through Ontario getting there. My grandparents lived in Knowlton... a little town about an hour from Montreal. Then when my Grandmother downsized and moved, she went to Toronto. I went there a bunch, too...

I haven't learned how to post photos yet. We have a Black German Shepherd, a Great Dane, Golden Lab, Beagle and a Husky. Four of them rescued. The Husky was found wandering the fields near me last Christmas. She was one year old (approx) then.

Jim

If this is directed at me then don't worry my facts are straight. I was babtized as a baby and went to Sunday school and then youth group straight and so on straight through high school. I was a big believer.
