I LOVE where I live. :) I like city living, but I also like open spaces. Mainz is a city, but its not big. Population somewhere around 150,000. I live right on the Rhein and in like half an hour Im in the wine country which is beautiful, esp. right now :)

Georgeous Gipsy. I'm jealous too. The buildings and history are so rich and spiritual over that-a-way. I'd love to visit Europe for a good long time. One of these days.....Beautiful city. You really need to post more pictures....like a whole thread full. It's not fair that you live in such a special place and don't even share. LOL.

There isn't a whole state I would hate to live in, but I would really not like living in any big metropolitan area, like New York City. I need nature and trees. I'm a "Country Mouse" type. :)

Tornadoes are the scariest natural disaster for me, followed by earthquakes. I couldn't handle living in tornado alley.
Yep, I'm with you on the tornadoes and earthquakes thing. Hurricanes you get several days warning. Enough time to pack a bag, get the crates into the car and go elsewhere. :D

No hunkering in basements wondering if the rubble will bury the entrance and remembering that you're claustrophobic.;)

But honestly my biggest concern living in the country in the Midwest would be the **** deer running across the road all the time. Tornado? PFFT. Deer damage to my car? Now that's something to be worried about.
Oh, deer don't limit themselves to the country. I've seen many deer running down the shoulders of major interstate highways in urban areas.:D That's much more exciting than the dark winding road with a deer crossing the street.

I don't mind the southern culture at all, there were just some things that kinda bugged me which I was in SC and NC, that irked me. The the "respect your elders spiel".
That's because you didn't visit me. :( Because here, we don't have a "respect you elders" thing going on. We respect whoever waves the biggest gun.

As for what state I couldn't live in? Pretty much anything not on the east coast, nothing further north than the Hudson Valley, and nothing further south than Georgia.

So the list of states I would live in is much easier: NY (southeast), NJ, CT (maybe), DE, MD, PA (eastern), VA, NC, SC, GA.

You'd be hard pressed to get me to move out of Texas. There are actually only a very few states that I would even consider living in. And I would absolutely not live anywhere near a metropolis area even in Texas.

And the only way you are getting me out of the "south" is moving me to Hawaii! LOL

Its interesting how people have different fears of natural disasters depending where they grew up. I grew up in tornado alley (which swings east to pick up Louisville, KY, lucky us) and as a result, I view twisters as really no big deal. Its pretty unlikely one will actually hit where you are, and if you are paying attention (which I do habitually) you'll have time to get to safety.

Whereas hurricanes (now a concern because the house we rent is very low lying) WILL get you if they come your way. Or at least, there's a very high chance of it. If there is a hurricane, we're pretty much screwed, and we know it. Obviously, neither us nor the animals will be there when it hits, but we'll be looking for a new place to live. And earthquakes can strike from nowhere, with no warning, and bring the building down on your head . . .

I just find it interesting that we tend to be laid back about the devils we know and spooked about those we don't.

I agree, I grew up in tornado alley, and I love thunderstorms, and to my family a tornado siren means go out and look for a funnel. However I am terrified of an earthquake. I don't see myself really being afraid of a hurricane, but would not want to live anywhere near where hurricanes flood, because I really don't want my house under water. I live in a city that has bad drainage, and cars literally float away in the walmart parking lot...thats about as bad as i am willing to live with.

Florida or the rest of the gulf states. I like my natural disasters to not come in seasons thanks.
This, except my first pick is Georgia. There's NOTHING in Georgia and nothing good about it except my wonderful friends there. And maybe the mountain roads up near Helen. That's it, though. Georgia is a place I would have to be dragged to kicking, screaming, crying, and probably sedated.

Everything on the east coat south of Virginia fits the bill for me, though - too much humidity, not enough metropolises, too hot, not mountainous enough, etc. I have absolutely no interest in living there. The northern midwest (the Dakotas, Minnesota, etc) holds no appeal to me, either - shitty weather and nothing really going for it. I liked the little I saw of Chicago, though, so I suppose there could be exceptions. Places like Utah and Nevada hold no appeal to me, either, and California's laws are not to my liking, so I'd prefer not to move there even though I'd probably love the climate in northern Cali and the people.

Vermont and Colorado are the two places I'd like to live. Vermont has the temperatures I tend to like and doesn't seem too humid, and it's quite near the coast. As an added bonus, the coast is rocky up there, which is a favorite thing of mine. Winter beaches are one of my greatest sources of happiness in nature. Colorado is just a place I'm in love with. It's so harsh and the mountains are right there, looming over you - especially when you're close, like in Boulder. It makes me so happy. I can't wait to go back. :(

I drove through Chicago once, and that was about three hours too much to spend there. I wouldn't want to live too far from an ocean, any ocean, and I HATE hard, cold winters. Obviously, the midwest is not for me.

I'd like to live again in a place that has actual seasons and I would probably enjoy, say, a couple of weeks of snow.

Why so many dislikers of California? I think its a big stereotype of what the people who live are really like!

I wouldnt live anywhere else! Not vert many other states you have mountains, snow, the ocean, the desert and all of it so nearby! The only other state ive lived in is Washigton and I liked it there too!

I would never live anywhere in the South, Texas, the midwest, umm the south east (my mother lived in South Carolina for years when she was young and hated the himidity, and I HATE humidity!!)

If there were no people in California, and the laws in California weren't quite so retarded I'm sure a lot of people would like to move there. The landscape of Northern California would be more than enough to get me to move out there, but having to deal with everything else about there will make sure I never do.

I hate Southern California, and I live in the State! If I could live anywhere in the state it would be Eureka (on the northern coast, right on the Oregon border). I like living in centrak though cause im a few hours from the ocean, few hours from Yosemite National park, a few hours from the desert and I dont have to lice in the snow, or with tourists.

If I absolutely had to move to America, I wouldn't want to live in Louisiana. I'd certainly love to visit it, but I wouldn't want to move there.
