I couldn't ever imagine living in a big city, either... New York, Chicago, etc, etc. Surburbia is crowded enough for me. I'd be happiest in a semi rural location.

I could live in a city, but not for very long. I could easily spend a year or so in Chicago... but then I'd have to leave for open spaces!

I could NOT live in a city again. No way, no how. I grew up and spent 15 years in Houston and I HATE it there. It took moving away to realize really how freaking STRESSFUL it is to live in a major metropolitan area. Every time I go back, I don't even make it into town before I want to leave. Everyone is out for themselves and everyone is so rushed and uptight. There are lines for every little thing, including traffic. Just plain too many people and not enough space... I honestly don't have a clue how I made it 15 years...

College Station is really too big for me too. I like where we live in Oklahoma. About 30-35 minutes to OKC. Outside the city limits in Edmond. (and where they're moving is even further). So we get acreage, well water, and can have our horses and dogs but we're still close enough to the city and town that it's really convenient too.

OMG! Those pictures a few of you posted of various areas in Florida make me reconsider my aversion to alligators, poisonous things, heat and humidity. Maybe all that's just something I've worked up in my mind. :p It's absolutely breath taking. I love that brilliant, blue water, the lush vegetation, and the huge sandy beach by the ocean. Maybe when I get rich I'll have a second home there in the milder seasons.

Alabama or maybe Georgia... Or really any Deep South Southern state... So Louisiana and Mississippi too.

The accents, racism, and evangelical nature of the bible belt drive me away no questions asked.

Whenever people ask me what I'm doing after graduation I tell them "Escaping back north over the Mason-Dixon!"

:yikes: NO WAY!

I can barely spend ONE DAY in Chicago, let alone a year!! In August when we went to Lego Land, I could not WAIT to get out of there. I average about once a year going for a museum, zoo, or other such attraction but boy am I ready to get the he!! out of dodge before dark! hahaha

The place I live now has around 30k and that is too large for my tastes as well TYVM.......I'd rather have no more than 2 stop lights in the whole darn town! :lol-sign:

I would live ANYWHERE for a little while....6 mos or a year, maybe a little more. Narrowing down places I wouldn't want to live for 20+ years would be easier.

I am definitely disappointed in how many people wouldn't move to the south based solely on stereotypes.

Seriously, even though we say y'all, if the first question someone asks you is "What church do you go to?" they are in the extreme minority.

People here ARE big on their religion, but I have never been asked that question, and I've lived in a hundred mile radius of where I am now for 22 years and have never been asked that.

I love Georgia, there are things I could do without (humidity, for one) but overall, I really like it.

I would LOVE to live in Florida though, in the touristy areas, simply because most of the beaches ARE touristy areas and I LOVE the beach. Georgia has some nice beaches, (seriously, if you ever have the chance, go to Cumberland Island) but I am not really a fan of the Atlantic Ocean. I much prefer the Gulf.

Anyway, I could not live somewhere where they have long winters. Oh my god. Driving scares the heck out of me most of the time anyway, I could NOT drive in the snow or in the mountains in the snow without giving myself a panic attack everytime I needed to go to the store. So that eliminates most of the northern states. I would NOT want to live in Utah, Alabama, or Missouri. Missouri was the worst state I have ever been to. I was miserable there. It rained, snowed, sleeted and then the sun came out all in the span of about four hours. I don't mind storms in Florida rolling in really quickly, but that took the cake for me. :p
Agree about the Georgia stuff. I love living here but I HATE the humidity. I say y'all all the time, I don't go to church but I'm a Christian. I've never been asked where I go to church.

Now I'd never live in Florida, but I love visiting. I'd love to live in maybe Tennessee, Kentucky, NC, SC, Virginia, West Virginia, or Texas, maybe Alaska or Montana. I don't know, my opinions vary on different states and why I like them or don't.

I haven't been to all that many places down South....but there IS significantly more racism and judgement on religion, sexuality, etc. than there is up here. There's enough of it up here. I wouldn't want to raise my children Jewish or Muslim in many places down south...and I wouldn't be too keen on having a multi-racial family down there, either.

I wouldn't want to live anywhere I wouldn't be comfortable holding hands with someone of a different skin color, or of the same gender. Not that there aren't places in NY like that.

Can't live with mosquitoes the size of hummingbirds that chase you down the beach and are all ready waiting for you in the car. We were literally bawling, my 2 year old and me as we ran for it. 50 bites on our legs alone. Didn't think they would be right there ON the beach. Stinging caterpillars were a real shock too, and then comes the mold and mildew. Noooo thank you. give me a killing frost and almost half a year without insects.

My Father lived in Dauphin Island Alabama before the hurricane blew everything out to the sea. Including the baby blanket we forgot, that my daughter screamed all the way home for. I would never ever go back.

I lived in Kansas for 20 years and never once actually saw or was in a tornado. There were plenty around me, but I never actually saw one. And I highly recommend seeing the area around Emporia before saying that all of Kansas is like it is out on I-70. That highway deliberately goes through the worst part of Kansas. The Flint Hills are gorgeous along US50. I miss all the green and water in Kansas. Colorado really sucks in that department, or at least around Denver. Up around Steamboat and such they have a little more.

I dunno, I wouldn't ever move to a lot of places. I never really saw myself moving to Colorado, until I did. I love the PacNW, except for the winters. Can't stand the East Coast and apparently Florida's whole "ooh, we have the ocean!" cancels out the fact that it's infinitely more flat than Kansas is.

I'm sort of a Central Plains girl to the core, but it looks like Colorado is where I'll be for the foreseeable future. There are worse places; at least there is a lot of activity around here.

I don't see hardly any stereotypes around here, but even if I did it wouldn't stop me from living here. I've been to just about every state except 8 or so and Florida is one that is always my first choice! :p One more thing I just LOVE about Florida is the awesome ecosystems... but thats beside the point, lol.

Just wanted to add some more pictures because.... :p

Yes! Florida actually has waterfalls... haha. Don't make fun of our 10-15' ones. This is Falling Creek Falls, this was from our hike a couple months ago. I would recommend going NOT in the summer or else you get bit to pieces by Mosquitoes. lol

Suwannee River... (BTW, the "U" is silent! lol) Whenever we head over to the Suwannee River State Park Harleigh gets SO spoiled... the ticket office people LOVE her and she gets like 6 treats

Also, this is from Harleigh's first REAL swim a couple months ago. This is at Charles Springs about 5 or so minutes from my house.... It is so gorgeous and hardly anyone knows about it, so its not as busy as other Springs(even in summer!)

Nikki, I want to go to Ichetucknee Springs sometime... we always talk about going but haven't made it up there yet. It looks SO pretty.
If you ever make it up here let me know! It is SO gorgeous... There is also a short hike (like REALLY short, lol) that you can take once you get into Ichetucknee Springs State Park to get to another springs. Its called Blue Hole Spring and its basically just this HUGE hole filled with crystal clear blue water.

You'll have to go floating down the Ichetucknee River as well. Its weird how you can go from the deep, dark, muddy water of the Suwannee River to the clearer, cleaner water of the Ichetucknee River. If you do make it up here its best to go before the actual summer starts (like the 1st-3rd day after it opens back up)... the water is a LOT colder, but you get numb to it pretty fast :lol-sign: Plus you aren't crowded down with tons of people.

Hahaha! One of Ian's favorite things about going to TN is driving through the mountains in his RSX-S.

I do wish we had actual mountains down here, but I'll take the beach and warm weather if it means having to live in a flat place.
