What's With Stereotyping Pitts?

In my hometown, Ridgetown, pitbulls were banned. Everyone signed a petition to get them back, and when that didn't work, they resorted to violence until they got the message and withdrew the law.

As a vet student, I work part-time in a veterinary office as an assistant, and tons of people come to me each day asking for advice on the pitbull ban on that town, because I no longer live in Ridgetown.

I've been attacked by a pitbull before, but in my opinion, I think it's the owners that need to learn how to handle the dogs and choose ones from the litter wisely, so why all the fuss?

Because they are an easy scapegoat for everyone's problems & banning them makes people feel like they can pat themselves on the back for a job well done in keeping the town safe. It's just too bad in doing so they've opened an even larger door for more attacks to take place with absolutely no consequences whatsoever.

I'm not denying there is a "pit bull problem." Heck, I wish I could put an end to every byb & peddler out there & yank the dogs out of many people's possession. But I cannot by myself. However, "pit bulls" have acheived Bigfoot status thus news media know they can guarantee readers/an audience if they cover situations dealing with the dogs.......all 20+ breeds & even more mixed breeds characterized as "pit bulls."

:yikes: :yikes: :yikes:

And do you think pit bull owners resorting to violence helped or hurt the image of the pit bull in your hometown?

The pitbulls owners walked into the mayor's office, screamed at him, and when the security guards came, they got a little... stab-happy...

Actually it was only a few, but I think it scared the mayor enough.

Dreyfus, if you are from Ontario (is that where Ridgetown is?), it doesn't matter whether your community has the ban or not. It is province wide.

Its sad people think that way about those dogs. Its just becuase of the history of the pitbulls and poor handling that led to such things. Ive met many sweet pitbulls. It just isnt fair... :(

it's a real drag about the ban. my mom has 2 & they are the sweetest, friendliest dogs that i know. i'm more concerned about the smaller terriers like scotties & JRTs, those are the ones with the miserable personalities.

I it is not fair to say that about ANY breed. It is the same way people think about bullys, rotts etc. That kind of thinking is what has led us to breed banning.

I hope that was meant to be a joke.

Oh, and very_vizsla, I hope you were joking as well. If you're against bans there's no reason to take other breeds down as well.
