I hope I would have the means to leave.

However, I dont think legally they can do that. (I know your saying it fictisiosly) Isn't there a Grandfather clause or something? Saying that the animals that are allready there dont have to leave..... Something like they did in Ontario. Im fairly sure its a law. I could be wrong tho.
I think your right.......but they do give you restrictions there doing it here in California now....but yeah I think you would follow under the "grandfather law" they cant just ask someone to give up part of there family.

Oops sorry if I made it sound like I am facing this problem, this is strictly a hypotheticial problem not a real one. My wife thinks I am crazy when I talk about BSLs (I have Amstaffs who always mentioned in Bans) and moving. I was just wonder if other people feel the same as me.
You aren't crazy. Madison isn't really talking seriously about BSL - but I have already told my friends and family that if Madison or the state of WI were to outlaw pit mixes i will be picking up and leaving to go somewhere that Mojo will be allowed to live out his life.

It is something I worry about all the time. I do not have him registered with the City for this very reason. I pass him off as a dachshund mix as much as I can...

It's scary.

A few things you might want to look at are :

Well, I don't really have any dogs that would be considered in a ban. But if it were to happen anyway, I wouldn't do anything. I would move over to our 36 acres, like we are doing anyway. And just sit it out. Of course I wouldn't take them into town or anything. And they might have to hide out at a friends house for a while, after I explained that "I gave them away after the law passed."

I would keep them, and stay where our roots are.

I have amstaffs too sweetest dogs in world and I dare them to prove to me there a danger to anyone after meeting them. I am in California the most our state has done is put restrictions on any dog now over 25 pds.......250.00 to registar them and get them fixed and appointment is already made so I am not worried...........Was getting them fixed anyways and if they push the 500.00 I well come up with it somehow. There my babys

Well, first off, god better help the person that even thinks about hurting my dogs. I would be sitting with a shot gun, and filing unconstituional law suits like you have never seen...this is during the period it takes to sell the house.
On a lighter note...I could possibly try to pass brutus off as a badly bred gd,( we have had one person ask us if he was a brindle gd puppy) then I would try some bleach or black shoe polish on Roxie to cover her rottie markings,or I'm not against the wig, she can be come a mutt, I don't care. And if Maggie is banned, god help us all, I'm moving out of the U.S.
I was going to say Tennessee hear I come, but if Renee is running with her dogs, I guess that state is out. California, would probably be there, Illinois is way to cold for me. So much for realtive and friends.
So Mexico, watch out, me and the dogs are on our way wearing new wigs or whatever it takes to cross the border. Maybe I should start brushing up on my Spanish just in case that day comes. I'm not above it. Hubby, son and grandbaby better have occasional visits. lol

German shepherds have a very real possibility of being banned if BSL continues.

Yeah I know ... Even though my Chloe is a mixed shepherd she still looks more shepherd than lab. Well her coloring and markings anyway.

Our shepherd is a patrol dog. I don't think anyone would try to take her.:)

Anyway, it is a terrible thing to face for dog owners.

I get very violent when I'm angry, so I'm just wondering how alive the ones that passed the decision would be. I'd probably do something extreme, like protest, attempt to encounter them and yell, etc. but they ain't kickin' me out of my place. ;) Coco and I will show them that if we wanna stay here, we most certainly will... together!

Well it is nice to say that I would just pick up and move BUT that is not always a possibility. I mean right now all I have is my husband (who isn't even living with me right now) and my dog and my rodents. I live in an apartment so it would be easy for me now to move but if I had children I would have to do what is best for them. I am sure some people don't like that answer but too bad. I would never ever put my dog before my children. Don't get me wrong I love Teddy with all my heart and I would fight my a$$ off to protect him and keep him but I would not just quit my job and move just like that and risk not being able to put food on the table for my kids and give them proper shelter. So right now yes I would leave but when I have a family I would have to look into a new home outside of the province for Teddy while I fight fight fight. Either that or do what Julie suggested as we will hopefully be living on a farm way out in the boondocks lol.

Luckily being self employed I can be very mobile. Of course I would raise hell that my rights were being violated then I would move.

I could move across the river to WA state and still work where I do. Of course it would make for a long commute which would change things for Dante and I.

If I lived somewhere that I couldn't just move to another state and still hold my job...I don't know. 30 days is such a short time to sell a house and find another job. I supposed I'd see if he could go stay with someone in another state until I could do the above.

Scary thought, but sadly you're right and more and more people are going to have to face this the way things are going with BSL. As the person to a GSD, it could very well be me one day.:(
