If your State (not city) outlawed your breed (whatever you have) of dog what would you do. The State passes a law the requires all "X" breed dogs must be out of the State in 30 days or be put to sleep; what would you do?

Please don't debate BSL (Been done here many times) just tell me what you would do. This is a real problem faced by some people and I am wondering what people would do.

I would move out with my dogs, I could not and would not give them up. Even if I had to sell the house and take a cut in pay I would do it.

To be perfectly honest I am not sure what I would do. I would like to say that I would pack up and move, but I cant say that for a fact. I would however either find somewhere else for them to go or try to find a rescue that would find them a good home. Dont get me wrong I love my chloe to death but I cant say what I would do. Not everyone has the means to just pick up and move. But that is my honest answer and I would love to say that I would move but I am just hoping that, that day never comes where I would have to make a decision like that. But if I was able to and had to make that decision I would move in a heartbeat.

I would want to move, but I don't think it would be financially possible. If it was, no doubt.

I would want to move and I would try every way possible I could to make that happen. But if I couldn't I would try and find a family member or friend I trusted to send her to. I would then work on the moving out thing again.

I would do everything I could to leave. If I didn't have the money to leave, I would see if I could place my dogs in experienced foster homes outside the city until I -did- have the means to leave. No way would I let them get PTS.
Altering their appearance sounds good, but the thought of a shaved Border Collie dyed completely black to look like a Lab is a bit scary.

I would definately leave. Who would want to live in a state that passes that kind of stupidity? But if I couldn't leave immediately, I have tons of relatives out-of-state who absolutely love Zeus and would keep him until I could make it out of here.

I think if I gave Aubrey some white on her tail and a few other places I could pass her off as a lab/beagle mix...I don't know, the Rott just comes out too strong in her.

I hope I would have the means to leave.

However, I dont think legally they can do that. (I know your saying it fictisiosly) Isn't there a Grandfather clause or something? Saying that the animals that are allready there dont have to leave..... Something like they did in Ontario. Im fairly sure its a law. I could be wrong tho.

Zoom, if you used chalk and gave Aubrey a white blaze on her nose, a spot on her chest and the white on her tail, she would really resemble a Lab/Beagle mix. She does have the typical Rott markings but she has that soft face that could be passed off as a Beagle's to someone who doesn't know any better.

Chances are leaving will not happen. I'd just keep him. I wouldn't let anyone come and put my dog down because of other irresponsible people.

Also, I'd start sending letters left and right...

I'd pack up and leave. Find the cheapest hotel, but that is a safe hotel. Sell my home and quickly find a new hoem to live in and quickly get a new job! Especially if I have a degree.
Good LUCK! Feel soooo bad for you, that your in this position!
Let us know what you do.

Probably what I would have to do first is send my dogs out of state somewhere.

While I sold my property and looked for something in a more reasonable area.

You are so right this is a VERY real possibility, and it's why EVERYONE who owns ANY breed of dog should LOUDLY protest any legislation that has any hint of restriction of any breed, and you should protest them all no matter where they are.

To find out where to write your letters, join the petlaw list at Yahoo's Groups.

Oops sorry if I made it sound like I am facing this problem, this is strictly a hypotheticial problem not a real one. My wife thinks I am crazy when I talk about BSLs (I have Amstaffs who always mentioned in Bans) and moving. I was just wonder if other people feel the same as me.
