Most likely a female, standard wirehaired Dachshund from working lines, since I want to do earthdog, tracking etc..

I've got an excellent, excellent breeder lined up in Germany who breeds the right dogs for the right reasons, does all the health testing and so on.

Here's a dog from a past litter (exact sire and dam I'd want a puppy from) that I just adore.

Mordy, that picture you posted of the Dachshund is beautiful! I rarely see any good looking ones (well, they're cute- but not like you'd imagine a Dachshund as being) around anymore, especially when it comes to the wirehaired variety...and even more rarely do I ever meet one with a lot of their hunting instincts, determination, and drive.

My next dog will be from the pound/local shelter. Any breed, I guess. It would probably be a mutt.

Isn't he handsome? :D

I know what you mean about the direction the breed has taken. It's very sad.

Since I don't want to hijack this thread, I'll start a separate one on the topic in the "Breeds" forum. :)

Ask my wife, "Something that doesn't SHED!"

heh, she hates the fur, it's my job to keep it wrangled up as much as possible. It's not very wrangled.

I figure it'll be some dog that has hair instead of fur, no shedding and it's just more maintinence for me (clipping). Besides, come haloween you can let the hair on the head grow and then shave it into DEVIL DOG. I wonder if they make liver flavored hair gel...

But it's really up in the air. Sometimes you just get sucked into Petfinder or a particular rescue (Hurray for ARPH!) and can't help yourself. :D I'd eventually love to have a working Aussie from Hangin' Tree lines, but they're relatively rare and I need much more space before I can take a dog from those lines.

It really depends at what stage I''m at in my life...

But it''d either be a Siberian Husky or one of the breeds I''m wanting to use to create my own line of Alaskan Huskies which I strongly believe will be fantastic running dogs, and experts I have consulted completely agree with me. Sorry, the breeds I will be using is a secret ;)
