Great pictures, pops. I love seeing dogs who actually WORK, as apposed to the ones who are only supposed to look pretty. Big difference. Working dogs do look much different than the "show" variety.

Danegirl that is a cute pat, but this is the way they should really look

I am pretty sure the dog I posted is from working/performance stock...But I am certainly no expert when it comes to pats. I am pretty sure she is an MQH dog. I personally would not buy a patterdale from anything BUT a working kennel.

Nice to see all those little guys working though thanks for sharing those pics, especially the teckel....gorgeous.

most pats in the USA are working stock. very few in the hands of non hunters. i just think the working shots look better. :D
for instance have you ever seen shots out of Oz of danes & their crosses catching boars :hail:
all pics came from searches on photobucket or hunting forums i am on.

The only really small dog I could see having is a wire haired dachshund, aka the Teckel judging by the picture above. The Czech name for them is different again--Jezevcik.

Papillions and Cavaliers. Would LOVE to have one of those.

I've met a couple really nice Chi's before and if I could get one from an awesome breeder, I might do that. Other than that...not really a small dog person AT ALL. I'm not a terrier person by any means and so that cuts out most of the other small dogs. I do like the stockiness of the Frenchies, they seem like good little solid dogs.

there is a lady who writes a column in Full Cry magazine named Teddy Moritz. she's in NJ and uses her teckels for hawking, bushing & earthwork.

No I have not seen any pictures, but I have heard of Danes being used as boar dogs down there...very cool, and though I do not hunt that is something I would love to see...nothing more beautiful than a working dog in my opinion. Too bad we don't see many working danes here in the states.

Poodles. I like the toy variety best. I also love pharoah hounds, but they aren't exactly "small".

I have owned a papillon and a chihuahua, and I would never own another.

1)Longhaired Dachshund
2)Papillion
3)Whippet (esp. longhaired!)
4)Pug (they're just so **** fun)

Also, I'd consider a shih tzu under some circumstances. The few well bred ones I've met at work have been simply adorable and sweet. There are also quite a few generic fluffy little dogs around here that I would rescue if it came up, if they had a good temperment :)

Cairns are my favorite right now..Because I own 2. They are the BIGGEST small breed I have ever owned as far as drive. I call them my personal trainers. They have the willingness to do anything I want to do, ready to go at a moments notice and willing to keep the steam going as long as I can..At the end of the day..they are quiet little sweet cuddley lapdogs that I crave.

Hey, my Bedlington looked a lot like those working Bedlingtons after a day digging up moles in the yard...except he got way dirtier!

Pops2,
Here is a pic of my working jrt. Pic's taken while he was working a coon, don't have the pic on my pc of him and it wrapped up together.

As for other small breeds, would have to be working and that is hard to find :(

Well, I'm actually looking to do small dogs for a while.

The two I like the best are Cardigan Corgis and Shelties(but I've decided to go with the corgi). If I was to do a toy breed it would be either a smooth coat brussels griffon or a pap.

Cardigan Welsh Corgi:

finding a smooth coat is proving to be difficult... but here's the rough coat variety

papillon

and you already posted shelties
These are my two favorite small breeds also. I own a pap, but I would love to own a wire-haired brussels someday.

Ohhhhh, don't get me started!!

Here she is a couple day ago on her birthday. I made her a liver and whipcream birthday cake with doggie biscuits on top. As you can see, she had to be held back for the picture so she wouldn't run up and eat the cake before we could blow the candles out and take the picture.
