Taking my friend's dog for a run made me realize what a nutcase I have here.

I visited Freddie (she and her family are on vacation - Beep, they have him on Natural Balance venison and sweet potato or something like that, and he looks great!) this weekend and took him for a run. I'm not sure how much exercise he'd been getting, so we jogged/walked around her neighborhood. He got tired after twenty minutes of it and started whining to go home. I was shocked. (And it drove home how much I want a lower energy dog, lol.)

My dog could have jogged for thirty minutes and STILL would be dragging me along happily. Middie can GO GO GO all day long and not be truly tired out. He can gallop around at top speeds for hours when off-leash before he's ready to walk again. All I can say is THANK GOD he is so mellow and has an off-switch, or else I'd be in over my head.

So how much energy does your dog(s) have? Can they zoom around all day?

(despite what the general public would have you believe about Weims) Slade is a pretty average 4.5 month old puppers, I would think (he's my first puppy). He has his zoomie moments, and likes to wrestle the day away with his brother, but he doesn't bounce off the walls by any means. He enjoys camping out on my bed and sleeping, for pretty much as long as I feel like relaxing. I don't forsee a case of him waking up one day mental, when he gets older, so . . .

Granted, he's got a bit more energy than most breeds, as he IS still a working breed, but he's not unmanageable in the least. Nice and animated, with a fabulous off switch (in the form of a "settle" command).

My dogs have no energy. It's almost pathetic.

Molly is understandable, at over 11 years old I can't expect her to be bouncing around. It comes in spurts, she'll still run laps around the yard but she can only do a couple laps now, rather than when she was younger and it seemed like she never stopped.

Lucy is... eh. She only has energy when it works for her lol. She has no problem chasing our cat throughout the house. But she's not a big fan of walks and she'd much rather just lie around all day... she was like this even when she was a puppy, she has never had much energy or been very active. I'm sure her bad knees and hips play a significant role in this, though.

The only inactive, very low energy dogs I have are Daggett and Lucy. Daggett can be energetic in the mornings when she first goes outside for the day, but other than that she doesn't move around a lot. And Lucy, she sleeps a LOT! We have had her vet checked for it, but nothings wrong with her. Shes a Chihuahua with very little energy! I can get her to go for walks, but not for very long. And she doesn't play very often.

All my other dogs are ALWAYS on the go! They are always moving around, and barking and playing. Even Harry my 12 year old, he is more active then the younger ones actually!

My dogs are of moderate energy... they laze around the house all day, with a few wrestling matches/ring around the kitchen here and there. They will both run around for hours when we bring them to the park or I'm playing in the backyard with them, but they don't necessarily need that much exertion.

Well, Gonzo will run around for hours. Fozzie, on the other hand, is pretty lazy. If he runs around for a half hour, he needs a long break, before he's running around again. I LONG for him to be more energetic! He also gets lazy/tired after just 15-20 minutes of training or obedience, while Gonzo will do that all day long. I suppose after having Gonzo for 7 years, it takes a lot to amaze me, as far as energy. Gonzo could definitely keep up with Middie! He would probably have a ball herding him all day. ; )

The only type of dog I feel I wouldn't do well with is plain HYPER dogs. Like, dogs that have zero attention span, are non-responsive, and obsessive about bouncing around constantly. Dogs who cannot rest whatsoever. But I think most dogs who are truly hyper are that way because of their owners, not naturally, at least most of them.

My three dogs all are quite energetic. There is no tiring them out. The kids can go out and play with them and the kids are always the ones that quit playing. I've never taken the dogs on a walk or to the park and had them exhibit any signs of "doggedness" (bad pun - I'm sorry).

Ozzy can go for as long as I can. In fact, Steven, who takes him running, usually gets tired before Ozzy does, and it takes several miles (like, six or seven) before Steven gets tired. He doesn't usually get a ton of exercise, and I can just do nothing all day and he's fine with it. He can be lazy with the best of them.

Jett has a moderate amount of energy, she is a "lets just relax here while you pet me" kind of dog. She isn't in the same condition as Ozzy, but she can go play zoomies in the backyard as long as Ozzy can. She too can relax with the best of them.

It's nice, because they both have off switches, they can lay around for days without getting much exercise and still not be destructive.

Meg is probably average - high. She can, and usually does, go pretty much all day. She'll hike and run off-leash as long as I'll let her; I have yet to find the point where she is obviously tired. She is, however, incredible at being able to settle in the house, and I can get away with being lazy with her for a day at a time. Day two of being lazy has never happened. She doesn't get bouncing off the walls or anything, but will come rest her chin on my leg and stare up at me until I get up, at which point she will play-bow and spin until I take her out to do something.

My dogs enjoy a daily walk of 3 miles, they play in the house and yard for brief spurts, but for the most part I would say they are low energy dogs...like me.

Thunder is energetic when he's playing or walking, he can go all day. But he knows when it's time to play and when it's time to settle down. He's not hyper by any means.

Scooter gets tired fairly easily but he's been kind of out of shape lately. However, he is ALWAYS vocal, even when he's laying down "resting", he's making some kind of noise.

Juno has more energy than you can possibly imagine, LOL. She does her "zoomies" every time we go outside, and she will run in a tight circle for about 30 laps, rest for 2 seconds, and go again. Inside, we have a giant crate that stays open for anyone to take naps if they wish... she'll be playing and wrestling with one of the other dogs, run to the crate, lay flat out, close her eyes... 10 seconds later, she jumps up and goes back to wrestling. We call that her "re-charging", LOL.

Sammy & Marley really don't have that much energy. For JRTs they're very laid back. They like walks and could probably walk all day, but inside they just lay around.

The two puppies don't have a ton of energy yet but they're still recovering. I think they're going to be a handful when they're feeling better, lol.

Bamm is a high energy BC so he can pretty much zoom around all day if you let him... but he's a little bit out of shape and lazy right now. I need to get his butt out there and work him hard and tone him up some.

As long as you bring water for him to drink wherever you play he will not slow down much. If there's no water then as soon as he tires he just wants to lay down and pant.

Blaze can run all day if I let him lol. He gets about 2 hours of hard running/swimming/playing with other dogs a day at the dog park. Then about a hour of a brisk leash walk at around 8-9pm. H eis great in the house and I can get away with a day of little to no excersise, but the next day I will pay for it. and he will act like a 5 month old puppy, not a 5 year old dog those days lol. But if he gets his good 3 hours of excersise a day he is good to lounge around the house for pretty much the rest of the day.
