SO's, parents, brothers, sisters, whoever... similar tastes or no?

We were watching the dog show and discussing this the other day.

My taste seems to be very different than my families. I love papillons and some other toy breeds have really grown on me since having them. But my other loves are mainly the collie type breeds. Collies, Shelties, Border Collies, Aussies, etc.

My mother is a toy dog fan at heart. She loves the little fluffy dogs like longhaired chihuahuas, Japanese Chin, Tibetan Spaniels, and of course Papillons. Her other favorites are Labradors, German Shepherds, Great Danes, Deerhounds, and Borzoi. (Quite a range in size, lol)

My dad is a sporting dog person. He loves labs, all pointers, and English Setters. He wants a German Shorthaired Pointer for his next dog. (He's been really hinting about it lately- getting a hunting dog again. My mother is trying to lean him towards spaniels or another lab, but he wants a dog that points). He also really likes Clumber spaniels.

My sisters love the papillons and shelties and basically just whatever we have, Josie especially.

My room mates are very different in taste too. Anne likes retrievers and bully breeds. She wants a pit bull as soon as she's out of the apartments. Lizz likes little scruffy terriers like scotties and schnauzers- anything with a beard.

Stuffed ones. :lol-sign:

My grandparents like the strong, working breeds (dobes, rottweilers, etc.)

My sister likes toy dogs, mainly pugs.

My mom and little sister don't really care for dogs all that much...

Mom is very much a little dog person. Mini Aussies are her fav, and I doubt she'll ever own a different breed.

My sister likes Dobermans, Great Danes, the big breeds...

Dad likes 'farm dogs' - so really, a border collie cross would do him fine, but he doesn't want anymore dogs!

I'm a med to big dog person, but I like active, outgoing dogs. Border Collies, Aussies, etc., not much for small dogs really - Zoey will be my last small dog I'm sure.

My brother likes Labs, and GSDs. Or lab and/or GSD crosses. Anything that fits in well with his family, and isn't a little dog! :p

We're all very different in our tastes, I guess.

My mom would love anything with fur :) My dad and sister love big dogs--labs, rotts, any type of retreiver. Something you can rough house with and take on a long hike and then use as a pillow in front of the tv.

My sister hates small dogs apparently, but I think she just makes fun of what is mine, since she had a JRT

My dad has always owned a Brittany

My mom likes most dogs. They are thinking of getting a Weimaraner

My little brother has a Pitbull

My older brother had a German Shepherd

My dad loves Dobermans and GSD's (except for the hair)...the hard, uber-loyal dogs. He loves Sawyer too, except for the hair. I actually think an ABPT would be the perfect dog for him, if it weren't for his irrational hatred of the breed.

My mom...just likes dogs with Labbish ears. If it were totally up to her, I'm not sure what she would pick.

One brother likes Teh Corgees.

The other brother is kind of scared of dogs.

I like the bigger, active working dogs; Aussies, BC's, Filas, Rotties, etc.

My sister has and likes Shelties.

My parents like GSDs, Labs, Goldens. They love my sister's Sheltie too.

My niece likes the hound group and has a mix that appears to have some kind of hound in him. She likes Labs and lots of breeds too I think.

I like lots of breeds....too many to mention. But I guess what stands out the most are Dobermans, GSDs (the old fashioned ones more...without the extreme angulation and unstable temperaments that are seen a lot these days). I like good labs and Goldens too. I like Poodles too, all sizes. And also, since having Chihuahuas, I am in love with that breed too, along with some other toy breeds. There are other breeds that I admire a lot but wouldn't have, such as some of the hounds. I like dogs that were bred to work closely along side their owners, not too independent.

You speak like they all love dogs?!

lol

My parents are cat people ;) Although they do love all animals, and were collie and collie cross owners when I was growing up.

My sister and brother are both cat people too I'd say.

In general my whole family (extended too) arnt really dog people. We tend to love poodles though, but i think that is mainly because almost my whole family is allergic. My cousins had a great little poodle too.

My mom tends to like the hairy dogs. Collies, samyoids (sp?), huskys, etc. She would NEVER actually own one though! She says she doesnt want another dog after i leave with Riley, but someday ill probably get her a small poodle that she will love and adore.

My dad loves all dogs. He isnt a "dog person", but way deep down has a big heart for animals.

My younger brother likes GSDs, but is too a major dog lover.

Older brother likes dogs too. His girlfriend has a pom that he adores, and says he may get a standard poodle someday.

My dad likes cats, he used to hate them and now loves them, is bothered by dogs.
My brothers really show no interest. my oldest brother will probably end up with something, either a cat or a dog, if he marries his current girlfriend he will share her current cat and they'd most likely end up with a dog in the future, what breed I don't know, she's grown up with boxers. Of course this brother is irresponsible so it will be her dog, he just gets to do the fun stuff.
Next oldest brother will not have anything IMO unless his future spouse wants one. he is like my dad and cannot be bothered, but he's even more extreme, even the cats asking for some pats are bothersome to him where as my dad loves giving affection to the cats.
And the next bother will get something eventually I suppose. He likes the look of the big powerful breeds, he is attracted to Bernese mountain dogs but really knows nothing about them. He does like to give and get affection from the animals, he'll play with them too. I don't know how responsible he is but he feeds the cats if i ask him when I'm away or something, at one point he even was asking to feed them because he loved how excited Neko would get (which is strange because he used to get so angry when max would ask for dinner from him). He may end up with a cat instead.
Mom likes Labs, Goldens and German Shepherds. Although it is sort of ignorant preference, she goes simply by what she has heard, that Goldens and labs are good family pets, she is convinced that max was mainly a Lab even though he did not really look like one (he didn't really look like any one breed) and had the temperament of several breeds. She had a GSD when she was a baby. She likes small dogs as well but likes short fur.

Really only mom shows much interest in actual breeds but she does not discuss what about them she likes beyond "they are good dogs".

I like APBTs and Boxers, I'm sure there are others I'd like if I knew anything about them. Goofy, energetic, affectionate all purpose dogs that I can DO stuff with. Not small but not huge, smooth coat, I love them. I plan on getting an APBT as my first dog after college if it's possible, they are healthier than Boxes and I'd like to be able to have a pit bull that I can raise to be a breed ambassador, get his CGC and enter some sport with him, perhaps even get him a therapy dog title.
Mom hopes the pit bull thing is a phase and both parents think I just like them because no one else does. They have both sort of accepted that i like them and perhaps they are not all evil. Dad likes to talk about them being vicious killers on purpose to push my buttons and it works. Hopefully they will be able to accept the pit bull I choose to own.

My mom likes little dogs. My step brother has a shih-tzu, my aunt has a mini dachshund, another aunt has two large, outside only mutts, my uncle's girlfriend has a husky, another aunt has a Maltese, and a cousin with two rotties....

My mom loves pugs. She used to own a toy poodle since her mom was a poodle breeder.

My fiance likes beagles and chihuahuas. He also would like to get a dobie some day. Nope, we are getting a rottie. lol.

My sister likes chihuahuas and other toy breeds.

My aunt has never owned another breed other than black and tan dachshunds in her 35 years of dog owning. But she did say that she would love to get a basset for her next dog.

My grandmother had wolf hybrids but got rid of them after her husband got put into a home. Only he was able to go into the back yard, nobody else if they knew what was good for them. She now has an obese kelpie.

I will say that nobody in my family is as much of a dog lover as I am. I am the only one who has a multiple dog home, because I believe two or more is better than one. ;)

Out with it . . . which brother is Necho? :rofl1:

My parents like my dogs, lol. They borrow them, they get to brag on them, they get to send them home.

Funniest part is, though, that my mom went from being horrified that I'd brought one of THOSE VICIOUS DOGS (Tallulah) home to telling everyone that if she were going to take one of my dogs it would be Tallulah, and she's not shy about telling people how wrong they are about the breed now ;)

My mom used to fear and distrust pit bulls. Even when I had reggin she kept saying "wait until he gets older, he will turn on you guys... hes just a puppy right now." Well, he turns TWO in February and he hasn't turned yet.. Unfortunately, the rest of my family still thinks pit bulls are evil and they like to feed my mom a bunch of crap. My mom no longer believes all pit bulls are bad dogs.

My family, well they like dogs. But I doubt when I move out that another dog will live here (unless it is a dog of mine be baby sat). We have ALWAYS had dogs growing up, never a day in my life with out a dog. But my family are "bad dog owners", would just feed ol'roy, no vet care, not much in to training, no excersise ect. thats how all our dogs grew up, unless i walked them, they just plainly were not walked. Except on the occasional few times in nice wether, or family picnics they would always come (we would have to drive 2 cars just so we could bring the dogs along lol)

My one brother wants a pug, becuase they are pretty inactive, compared to most other breeds. Not trying to say they just lay around, but they dont need to much excersise. Which is why he wants one.

My other brother wants a rotti. Why? becuase his best friend has (well should say had one, he got hit by a train today. RIP Zeus) I dont know if he will ever actually get one, maybe one day he is only 16 so he has a while.

My mom really likes any breed of dog. And would own another dog. But I have told them that alot would have to change before I would step in and take away the dog lol. She now knows ol roy is a bad food, and I'm sure would be willing to buy good food. She has seen what a difference a well trained and excersised collie is like, unlike our last Collie girl, un trained, unsocialized.

uhhh and my boyfriend. well he wants a kangal/ lol like that will EVER happen. he knows nothing of the breed, just seen a picture of them and loves their look. Well buddy there is ALOTTTTT more to a dog then just a look.

I really dont want to sound rude. but my family likes the idea of a dog, just doesnt like majority of the responsibility it takes to own one (I think) how they should properly be raised. Luckily if a nother dog does come in to thsis house, I will for sure train the dog AND my family.
