Pitts all the way!!! They have the best temperament around kids, have the most fun at the dog park. When we go camping he can carry his own water, food, and bedding. And mine has been the easiest to train out of every dog I've ever owned. Now that I have experienced the joy of owning one, I am spoiled and will probably never own anything else, hehe. No other animal has meshed into my lifestyle so completely before.

If I had to go with a small dog, I would say a whippet. And if I had to go big dog, great pyrenees. For pure looks, of course the Dogo Argentino, I have never seen a more magnificent animal.

Honorable mention to boxers. I think they look so regal and am impressed with their energy and agility.

based on your choices, i would have thought you'd have chosen patterdale/fell terrier for your small dog. nothing against whippets, i've liked the ones i've met and may get one for the kids to take rabbits & jacks on the lamp.

Do you live with Steve? In the same house? Are you talking...a Doberman living with you in your house? Don't count on it just being Steve's dog. Hahahahaha! When Steve isn't around, and even if he is probably, you'll have a Doberman coming into the bathroom with you to help you with your grooming needs. You'll have a helper chef, an assistant gardener, you'll get help with the house work, a helper in everything you do. And if you think you'll sit on the couch ever... without at least one Dober-body-part touching you, think again. Dobermans won't let any family member ignore their presence. You will likely get so bonded to a Doberman, you will wonder why it took you so long to get one.;)
:rofl1: Yes, Steven and I live together, so said Dobe will be in my house with my when he's not here. He's really be wanting one lately, but with Ozzy and Enzo and a potential puppy in the not so distant future, it will be another two years or so before we have a house of our own and can get another dog. Ozzy is definitely his dog, and so jealous that it will probably be a female Dobe. I have Enzo who is just a gregarious dog that isn't concerned with hierarchy at all, so I think with the right female they could get along. And said pup is going to be a GSD male, so I think that every one can learn to get along :p

Of course, this is all in the future, lol, so I don't even know why I'm entertaining the idea NOW, lol

You are most likely correct! Never met one in person, but looking at google I can see they are a handsome breed. And I can see they are small working dogs. They do remind me a bit of my Jack Russel Terrier, which although ended up being a good dog 7-14 years old, I was miserable with him younger. Way too headstrong, hard to potty train, way too much energy, and would only listen when food was involved. I don't mind active energetic dogs, but he was like a whirlwind.

And now that you mention it. I suspect Whippets might not be a good choice for me either. I need an animal that can keep up with me on my bike (which I know they can do), but I suspect they have a strong prey drive and would easily become "distracted" by rabbits, lizards, cats and such. The lady (I see on the trails near my house) with her perfectly trained whippet biking companion is probably an anomaly. Just because I met one amazing animal doesn't mean the breed are all that way. I may have to rethink this. Although since I will probably never get anything but a pit again, it's a moot point. :rofl1:

But yeah, I think you are right.

Australian Shepherds, and of course mixes depending on the individual. I also really like the apbt and border collies.

if you don't like the strong prey drive then definitely stay away from the patts. they are beast working terriers. most will make the average JRT look laid back and small biting animal friendly.
an aquaintance of mine in IA has a 14# gyp that has killed 20# coons.
