This is a rant.

Yesterday, my coworker told me that he would be "a little late" to work today. Whatever. Sure, fine. That's not really a big deal.

Or is it?

I guess my definition of "a little late" is VASTLY different, but I was thinking it meant something in the 30-45 minute range at the most.

He is normally supposed to be here by 9am. Now, it's almost noon, and still no word or sign of him. THREE HOURS??!?!?!? I'm supposed to think that is only "a little late"????!?!?

Normally, with anybody else, I wouldn't care. Whatever, if he doesn't want to get paid then that is his own business. HOWEVER, he is my backup at the front counter (we are the two customer service people in my department), so I can't go to lunch until he gets his @$$ here.

Well, I could go to lunch, but then I would have other people made at ME for not being here to do my job... all because this coworker couldn't make the effort.

SINCE WHEN DOES "A LITTLE LATE" MEAN THE SAME THING AS "TAKING HALF THE DAY OFF"???????????????????

grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...

This sort of crap really ticks me off!!!

Thank you. I feel a bit better now.

"Late" at my job constitutes 10-15 minutes at most. Anything longer than that and you'd better have someone else there for you until you get there.

And that's not called "late", that's called "I'm not going to be there until such-and-such time" or "I'm not going to be there in the morning", etc.

I'd say "late" in occupation time is up to a half hour. If you are going to be later then that, you should find a replacement or at least let someone know approximate TOA

That's not late, that's half a day off.

As far as not leaving the department for lunch, I know exactly how you feel. When I worked retail a million years ago, we were open on Sundays from 10 until 5 (nowadays, Sunday is another full day, but I digress). The management got into the habit of scheduling just me to work the Sunday. It was always a struggle to get someone to cover me so I could even take a pee break much less take a 30 minute lunch break. I worked in the electronics section and there were specific procedures on selling a TV and such that you had to be trained on and no supervisor was going to deign to cover it for 30 minutes because they have their own stuff to be doing. I finally told one of the managers that the next time I'm scheduled with no relief on a Sunday that I would be calling out that day and they'd have to cover it on their own. That was the last time I worked alone on a Sunday.

Has he showed up yet?

That's NOT late. Late is under 30 mins to me.

That's "I'm taking half a day off for vacation".

Very inconsiderate and very rude.

It's been another hour... still nothing. Normally, I would have taken lunch over forty minutes ago. Grrrrrrr... So now I'm irritated, annoyed, AND hungry!

I will add, though, that it helps to have some Chaz-family support!

... I'm almost seriously considering taking off for the rest of the day when he gets here. IF he gets here... Except that I won't because I'm not a jerk. (Though that would simplify a few things if I were...)

Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd... now he's here. I got a few "good" excuses from him as he came in, but I'm too annoyed (and hungry) to write them out right now. They really aren't all that entertaining anyways.

So... there you have it.

I am jealous... You actually get a lunch break? To me that is inhaling a sandwich in the car on the way to the next client. LOL

So be happy that missing your lunch break is a rare thing. At least you get one. LOL

I consider "late" being anywhere from 10-30 minutes late, and it should only be a very occasional thing. I haven't been more than 10 minutes late to work since my tire blew out a few weeks ago (which was a valid excuse for being 2 hours late!)

I fell that I'm late whn i walk in on time cause I'm always early. I usually get to work 20 min before I suppose to punch in. I'm that way with everything tho.

What a jerk.

I remeber back when I was prego I was an asst Manager for Holiday Gas Station. I would be scheduled to work by myself alot. The bathroom was outside. I would ask customers to stand there so I could go out and relieve myself which was often.

Late to the real world? Or to my family?

Late to my family is at least two hours. Usually twelve. But they say they are only going to be 20 minutes.
